  1. I can see where the OP is trying to go with this post, he's just not wording it correctly, but I understand his thinking.

We lost Sercey, Kiko and Spikes from the defense, Granted Kiko was a non factor last year but he was a factor 2 years ago. We've added no one on the defensive side (we re-signed Hughes but he was here last year also). So I think what the OP is asking is how is the defense going to be that much better.

On the offensive side we got better with McCoy but he's not going to come in and be the savior that takes us to the playoffs after 15 years, but he is a large upgrade over Spiller. Cassell and Orton are one in the same, both journeymen. We upgraded the FB position. Incognito should be an upgrade, but he hasn't played in a year and who knows what he's going to turn out to be.

So I believe what the OP is saying is how much better have we really gotten?

If you ask me - I think the defense needs another LB to fill spikes, Kiko's role. Along wit hthat you add Rex's defense system and yes the defense should be better, but keep in mind our terrible offense's of the past's had success against the Jet's defense. Time will tell..

The offense is where we should improve dramatically, forget about McCoy, just getting rid of hackett made this offense better.. The offense will be much improved, especially if we add Harvin and Clay.

Every year we get excited just to get heartbroken, every year we think this is something different and it ends up being the same... I think were all just hoping this is the year, but you can't blame someone for questioning it after 15 years of the same'ol Bills..

Kiko never had a role in the defense to fill, or if he did it was already filled. Wasn't part of it's success last year and wasn't part of it's future. It'll be as if he never existed.

  2. I see people saying the Cassel is an improvement over Orton. If you take the one lucky year he had in NE out. I find it hard to make the argument we upgraded. It seems more likely that we have downgraded at the QB position. So far in Free Agency I can't see that we have done anything more than hold the status quo at best.

If you consider his good years lucky, you may be right. Why was it lucky? Because he had a good team around him? He will have a good team around him this coming season so hopefully he will be 'lucky' again. He also had a very strong season in KC - but that may have been lucky too. Or his bad seasons were unlucky. Glass half full or empty?

  3. When assessing the team right now, let's look at the ownership. With all due respect to Ralph, may he rest in peace. He was slipping. Would he have shelled out all this bonus money for restructuring? This is a key in being able to retain and add top flight talent.

From the roster to the coaching staff up to ownership, the team is light years ahead of last season.

And it only gets better going forward. They aren't going to stop trying to improve this team.

    Can't wait for training camp.

  4. I admit I dont study the cap and every signings implications but seeing the Saints deal one of the best players in the NFL in his prime a year after re-signing him is a wake uo call that you cant keep pushing money back.

Yes, occasionally a team has to blow things up. Last year the saints went all in to win the super bowl and fell far short and need to start over. I think they knew what they were doing. They were at the cap last year when they signed bryd. They had to see this coming but they thought they had a shot at winning it all last year. They were wrong and are now paying the price. Has nothing in common with what the Bills are doing.

  5.

Indeed. I could see Seantrel Henderson swinging inside to guard.

Henderson's best chance on this team would be the swing tackle position now that Hairston is gone. Henderson wasn't good enough last year to be expected to start again this year.

Yes, but he can play guard. I'd like to think kujo or SH can lock down the outside, I think they have better size and length. I think bulaga has short arms

Kujo will be lucky to make the team this year. Henderson is not a good option unless he's made great strides since last season. I don't think the Bills would count on either one of these players.

  6. We will be able to get a deal done with Mario restructuring but it probably means that this time next year we won't be looking at a flurry of free agents and trades etc... and will be more focused on tying down our own - Dareus, Gilmore and Glenn.

There are some obvious saving still on our roster as well of guys who at most will be here one more year - Lawson, C.Williams, Urbik - those three alone save in the region of $5million then the others who might be more surprising casulaties are Kyle Williams who would save $7million and Leodis who saves another $3million.

and if Glenn plays like he did last year, he won't get a big contract.

  7.

We've just given up on you people. Go cry yourselves to sleep every night worrying about the cap if you want.

I shed no tears Mr. Overstatement. All I have said from the get go is that the cap is not irrelevant to how we build this team this year and what's coming next year. Why is that so offensive to you?

We as fans have no idea what the team is planning for now and in the future. Some fans, maybe not you, seem to think they either know more, or are more concerned about the cap implications of the contract signed then the team is.

We addressed 3 areas of need in RB, QB and OG and still have $20M or so available in cap space and we haven't had to release anyone yet.

I think we all understand that the cap is an 'issue' in the fact that it exists. It just seems to me, and I'm not alone here, that it's a exercise in wasted space to write about worries regarding the cap each time we sign someone, implying that the team may not be aware of what they are getting into.

  8. No, not suggesting playing Johnson at "traditional" TE, but Clay and Cameron are not really traditional TEs, either. I think Johnson at 33 can provide better receiving production than either Clay or Cameron. Can you get the same run game production withspreading the WRs out (including Johnson) as you can with average or less blocking from Clay or Cameron for pretty equivalent money?

What is a traditional TE and does any team use that type of player?

  9. listening to Jim Miller on SiriusNFL the other day, pointing out the Bills could forgo signing Hughes and adding a veteran casualty on the cheap.

The presence of the line he played on assisted in Hughes production.

Take the money and extend Dareus and fish for some talent

Hughes won't be missed as much as some people think.

is this a scoop or something anyone of us could and probably already had said.
