  1. Manning is a true competitor. He wants to win. He also has a good head on his shoulders and will know when his physical limitations interfere with the success of his teammates. He won't let that happen; he will bow out when he knows he can no longer get the job done.

BUT - his physical limitations won't interfere with his mental toughness, intellect and competetive fire. That's why we should talk to him about being a QB coach with Rex's crew. EJ could be his own project. Pay him $3 million to work with EJ in the filmroom, on the field and offseason. I guarantee he will be coaching in the next five years. He can't just leave football at his age...he wants to win more Superbowls (as a coach).

It's like 2 totally different people wrote this post. The first, by someone with a well thought out view that makes sense, the 2nd, by well, to be polite.... someone without a well thought out view that makes absolutely no sense.

  2. Yea. A future where Rex does really good again for two years after inheriting a stacked team (defensively at least), and then finishes out the last three years of his contract with losing records.

Yes, things happen in the future with a totally different organization exactly how it occured in the past. Nothing ever changes.

  3. I saw a good portion of the 2nd half today and Manning just doesn't look good. He didn't have any zip on the ball and 10 yard passes looked like he labored. I believe that he wasn't healthy and hasn't been for quite some time now. Ever since the St Louis game in Week #11 Manning only had one 300+ yard (31 yds) game and that was against Cincinnati in Week #16. In both games the Broncos lost and had to pass so I take those 2 games' stats with a grain of salt. In the St Louis game he took some hard shots and I'm starting to think that either in that game or in the next week's game against the Dolphins he might of got injured. He hasn't played or looked the same since that time.

Manning is going to be 39 next year and will be owed 19M if he is on the roster. After today's game he was non committal about his future and stated that certain things could have a bearing on what he would want to do. If he is unwilling to restructure I wonder what the Broncos would do. That's an awful lot of money to pay an aging star QB, especially if there's a coaching change and a difference in philosophy.

IF, and that's a big if, he were to become available and isn't injured to where he couldn't perform adequately, I would to see Buffalo wrap him up. He would be perfect for what we would need and I believe that we would be a perfect fit for him. Expecting us to be a power run offense and a top 5 defense under Rex all Manning, with his cerebral ability, would have to do is be a smart field general who wouldn't have to throw the ball all over the place. Fortify our OL and Buffalo would be an ideal team for Manning, barring weather of course but I guess that you can't have everything. Furthermore, if EJ is ever going to make it as a QB then what better mentor to learn from than Manning?

No, he won't be available. Denver or retire.

  4. I hate the idea of paying a G a ton of money. But 2 years ago, he was the best G in football. He would be closer to worth the money than Levitre.

As long as the Pegulas don't feel the same way. If the guard is really good, pay him.

I've never understood why fans are so concerned about the money in contracts. Pegula has billions, the NFL is a money making machine, just spend on the right players. I don't care how much.

  5.

Not so big on Roman. I think he needs a lot of talent to make his game work. They might need Mike Iupati, Sam Bradford and Adrian Peterson added this offseason to make Roman look good. But at least they won't need to address the TE position. His use of Vernon Davis has been arguably the biggest waste of an individual talent in recent memory.

Name one team that doesn't need talent to make the system work.

  6.

In the end I suspect it will be somewhere north of 20 interviews. Who would you prefer? An inexperienced never been a head coach in the NFL or somebody with a proven NFL track record? I'll take the experienced guy for this team as I think that resume better fits now. Therefor that would eliminate inexperienced candidates and make for less interviews.

you are just guessing - you have no idea

Who would I prefer? I have no real preference - I only know what I read and that's not a basis to hire someone. From what I observe, I would like someone who was an OC that would keep our defensive staff intact. That seems to be a logical fit. I like what I've heard about Hue Jackson, I think he would be near the top of my list. But I'm glad the Bills are being thorough, I don't see any downside to that.

  7. I don't think they are waiting for anything, I think they are inept. Why interview 20/30 people? It's a waste of everybody's time. This isn't a rebuild job, it's a team on the cusp of winning. That said I don't think you want an inexperienced, would be first time head coach coming in here and learning on the job. This position right now needs an experienced coach to come in and hit the ground running, like a Rex Ryan. Target 5 maybe 10 guys like that and hire somebody, this interviewing of 20/30 guys is a waste IMO. He who hesitates is lost.

they are not interviewing 20-30 people- it's around 12 right now. That's a big difference. I don't see how looking for the best coach is a waste of time. By the nature of the profession it doesn't seem like a quick process. You just throw out numbers with no meaning - target 5 , maybe 10 - so maybe double the search..... 10 is ok with you , but the 12 they've interviewed is a waste of time?

  8. Whether it's Hue Jackson or someone else tapped to be at the helm, hopefully he comes in realizing he is coaching a 53 man squad, not a sole position. Anyone coming in needs to know this upfront, that the total team concept is more important than who is under center. If anyone is timid of coaching here due to the QB situation he isn't worth the effort or time to pursue. Great coaches find a way to win in spite of who is under center.

Is this really a legitimate concern of yours?

Which great coaches win in spite of who is under center?

  9. I am nervous for Whaley to potentially enter into a trade or offer picks for a QB. Firstly Whaley seems not to be able to identify good QB talent. Also his trade cred and roster planning in my opinion is not good as last year he could have tagged Jaris Byrd and possibly gotten a 2nd or 3rd round pick in this year's draft but he let Byrd go to New Orleans. If he remains the Bills GM it will be interesting to see if he may tag Hughes and shop him for a QB and draft picks in this year's draft.

no team would give up a high draft pick AND sign have to sign Byrd to a huge contract.

I am sure Whaley is able to identify good QB talent better than any of us posters. Getting said QB on the team isn't as easy though.

  10. Every time I see it, I see Wycheck throwing the pass from behind the 25 and Dyson catching it in front of the 25. Unless Wycheck's arm is 3 feet long (it isn't) and he threw the ball completely sidearm (he didn't), no way it wasn't a forward pass.

Exactly. Clear as day. look at their feet.

Equally bad call that day was McNair awarded a first down after review. He dove on the sidelines, marked short and replay gave him the first down. Impossible to see where he went out of bounds. Would have been fourth down and punt. Titans got points on that drive. More inexcusable call then the forward lateral.

  11. The defensive was loaded with talented playmakers across the board and played a react instead of attack defense, which was ridiculous. IMO and many, many others, Corey was the sole reason we lost four. He should have been gone years before but Marv was too loyal to him. A decent DC on that team with Bruce and Bennett and Talley and Hansen all of the other guys who have dominated.

totally agree. Jeff Wright too small as NT in a 3-4 as well.
  12. If your QB starts from day 1 you can't coach him to not take the risky throw. If you have to do that then he should be sitting and learning. I think it was the plan til he outperformed Kolb.

Then they had no choice. But gave him a crap oline and no running game.

The recipe for disaster for a young QB.

I'm willing to give him a shot. But it better be with a Foles or Nassib or Derek Anderson or Matt Moore and the rookie we're sure to draft.

My draft will look something like:

    QB/Center/Guard/QB/Guard/RB/Guard

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that Nassib has never been mentioned on any other NFL teams forums as a potential starting QB, maybe including the Giants. Are you seriously willing to consider him as a starter for us next season?
  13. And when will we know if he has? The coach would have to give him the opportunity. I'm not comparing them in the least, but Kurt Warner never got a real chance to beat out several QBs before he became the guy he was.

The difference is that EJ has developed a reputation with his coach that might be hard to undo. I hope Marrone will really be giving everyone the best chance and not making the "safe move" of playing the veteran simply because it is safe on paper.

Unfortunately for EJ, you don't too many chances. He may never get another opportunity with Buffalo, or Orton may get hurt next preseason... you don't know. There may have been many possible Kurt Warners that never got a chance, but that's life in the NFL. You earn your chance in practice and maybe because of injury. Coaches can't risk losing a game and maybe their job just to see if someone will play well, if they don't , they might have screwed themselves over.
  14. I agree Pegula's credibility is not at stake at all. I can see the argument for continuity. IMO it is only a bad argument because it will be Marrone continuing.

Pegula can fire him now or a year from now. He is not an NFL caliber coach. I hate to see us waste another year and have the defense get older. Then you could be looking at a coaching and roster blowup, not just a coaching blowup.

Why, just because you don't like him, He has 8, maybe 9 wins this year, more than many other NFL caliber coaches. He deserves another year.
  15. I don't know what you see in Marrone. On top of everything else, he's stubborn beyond reason. Losing him is equivalent to losing nothing.

I hear this criticism a lot and I don't get it. I know many have said that he would'yn play M Williams because he was stubborn, same for Urbik(who is terrible), i think people take such a simplistic approach to things and have no real idea what's behind his logic. If he was so stubborn, why not stick with EJ, I think Marrone is a good coach and with a good line and QB . we'd be in the playoffs. But my guess is that Whaley stays and coaching staff goes.
  16. If you would have stated this to my original post of this thread then I would have agreed with you and apologized but I find nothing wrong to my response that you captioned. I don't agree that we don't have talent on offense, that's my opinion. Some of our players on the OL played much better in the past. Why the regression? I blame the coaching. I'm good with if you or others don't agree with that, that's the beauty of a message board.

In all fairness I should state that I don't hate everything about Marrone. I do give him credit for keeping this team together in the face of adversary all year, that was pretty unique. And then there is this: Bills Mobile: Marrone called Hughes after Pro Bowlers named

Now Hackett on the other hand.......
