  1. Searcy made some big plays last year, but there were big plays to be made when you have a DL like that putting pressure on the QB. Before last year, had anybody really jumped on the Searcy bandwagon? Many thought that losing Byrd was a disaster. It was a disaster for New Orleans.

We'll be okay. We have Lassiter too.

I understand the help the DB's got from a strong defensive line, but I don't think we should discount Searcys performance because of that. He played very well , maybe he was one of the reasons the defense did so well. The line was huge, but I think other players played well also.

  2. Soothing my football withdrawal by watching classic Bills games. Watched the "No Punt" Bills-49ers game from September 1992:

    • The talent of Kelly, Thurman and Andre is so far beyond anything we've had since then is stunning.
    • Major downside was Trumpy as color commentator.
    • Funny seeing a youngish Mike Shanahan as 49ers OC, and an even younger Jeff Fisher as DB coach.
    • Geo Metros looked fugly even when brand new.
    • Bruce did not have a great game. Walt Corey had him standing up on the left side, in a stance from the right and middle and still got stood up by Wallace and others. He did cause a fumble and key holding call though.
    • Brad Lamb had an awesome porn stache.
    • James Lofton was 36 that season and had set the career receiving yards mark the week before.
    • Pete Metzleaars - just another in our long line of lumbering TEs. Two TDs and a career yardage game, including 50+ yd TD.
    • Trumpy and Enberg didn't focus on the lack of punts as much as the total yards being piled up.
    • Funny hearing them talk about a QB controversy in SF, and joking that there were no calls that week for Steve Bono to come in.
    • Miller Genuine Draft - do they still "brew" that?
    • Our D was loaded and they couldn't slow down SF at all for long stretches. Tom Rathman was a great fullback. He handled Bruce more than once.
    • "Candlestick" Park was named for a native bird!
    • The Bills sideline gear was horrendous - white shirts with a spray-painted logo effect.
    • Fun game to watch and exciting - even knowing the outcome.

I flew out there for the game. Amazing game to be at. I remember on the drive home, the local fans on the radio blaming Steve Young for the loss, saying Montana would have led them on a winning drive and Young doesn't have it. Young threw for almost 500 and ran for another 100 if I remember correctly.

  3. With Manning and a run heavy attack, matched with the Bills defense, I would assume that the Bills would win the division. Home field advantage for at least their first playoff game would be on the table. The only risk is Pegula's money, and the Bills draft a QB in 2016 anyways.

The thing is , we don't yet have a run heavy attack. We may wish to have one, but still a long ways to go. I can't see Manning looking at our O-Line and wanting to play behind it.

  4. Anyone know what was the average going rate for mid-tier seating at this SB?

I know someone who paid $7K a ticket

Scalping is definitely not a crime in NYS. Not sure about Arizona.

I think everybody got refunded. Most of them got 200% back.

We better win the sth lottery. The only year we won was 1988. We got the letter the day after the Bills lost to the Bengals. Talk about salt in the wounds!

I remember getting my winning notification that Monday also. Terrible day.

  5. Goodell did punish the Patriots in 2007, a first round pick and $$$.

In my opinion, this is not a serious breaking of the rules. But they will likely get punished anyway.

The NFL should take the punishment duties out of the commissioners office and have a specific person in charge , similar to the NHL.

IF the NFL is so serious about the uniformity of the game balls, why is each team allowed to control the balls all week up until just before the game when the refs check the pressure. And why are they put back in control of the team. Also, why does each offense choose their own game balls and why doesn't the league control it for both teams.

I don't believe the NFL feels this has a huge effect on the game, but they have a poorly written/enforced rule that will likely change for next season.

This is an overblown issue and doesn't greatly alter the outcome of the game.

  6. @AlbertBreer: NFL drug policy: "Alcohol is prohibited only if a player's treatment plan explicitly prohibits alcohol." A fail is > .06 g/dl on urine test.

We'll see. I hope you're right but it looks deeper than just a young, immature guy making bad choices.

i have no idea, just presenting another view. In another extreme, he could have shared a nice bottle of wine over dinner and got tested right after that and failed. Nothing else. I personally doubt that's the story, but who knows.

  7.

He's pissed away millions of dollars that he'll never get back and keeps turning to vices that are derailing his career. His behavior certainly seems self-destructive. Not a stretch at all, IMO.

Could also be a choice, he would rather party than be a professional football player. If he's happy and content. Not self destructive. Free will. Again, not saying i think it's smart, but may not be tragic in his opinion.

  8.

It's not just the booze. He's been caught with weed, too, and who knows if he's into anything harder. It's more about his seemingly self-destructive behavior, lack of self-control, & inability to stay clean/out of trouble. It wouldn't be surprising if he spirals into the abyss if he doesn't choose to change his ways and/or get help. It's a tragedy waiting to happen.

I don't know the whole situation, but could be just a rich, twenty something athlete that likes a smoke and a drink now and then. Stupid, because it's ruining his career, but to say it's self destructive might be a stretch.

  9. To me this is like driving 65 in a 55. Not really 'breaking the law' in a significant way, and pretty much everybody does and the authorities don't really mind to a point.

If the NFL was really concerned that something like this would unfairly alter the course of the game, they would not let each team choose the game balls and be in control of them throughout the game.

If all the balls are supposed to be uniform, the league should be in control of each game ball from start to finish and the teams should never touch them except during the game. This doesn't happen, because the league wants the QB's to be comfortable using the game balls because it makes for a better product and I have no problem with that logic.

The underinflated ball issue is similar to the pine tar incident in MLB. The punishment should be similar. No fine, no suspension. The points scored with non regulation equipment should be taken away. Meaning the final score of the 2015 AFC conference Championship should show as
    NE 0

    IN 7

In the pine tar game the umpires ruling was reversed and the home run was restored. The game was continued from that point on at a later date and the Royals won the game. So by your logic, the Patriots get all of their points restored and win the game.

  10.

    Bill Walsh would have disagreed

    Yep

"That 86 draft gave him the nickname ‘Trader Bill’ because he traded all over the place accumulated a ton of draft picks, and selected 7 starters. After that, no team would trade with Bill because they did not want to look foolish."

yeah, 30 years ago it happened. Does it happen anymore?

GG- Do you really think we would spend more on defense? I know Rex is a defensive oriented guy so placing Revis on defense would be even stronger, but wouldn't it make much more sense to build up in free agency and the draft on offense. You know we need a TE, possible WR for the End Zone, QB, and two Guards. We could go after Julius Thomas, Lupati, and so on.

Why not do both, make our defense stronger if possible and build up the offense. Winning teams do both.

  11. I agree players hate playing under the tag, get him signed before free agency gets to close. I had posted before the season renegotiate while he was in a little bit of trouble they could have gotten the best deal then.

You are assuming Dareus's agent would agree to a contract which would probably be below market value, and much less then he would get in a year or 2. Signing a player early really doesn't save the team money, just makes things smoother. And players/agents aren't stupid, they aren't going to accept a lesser deal if they know a big payday is around the corner.

  12. Ugh....how we going to get all our "linebackers" on the field? Lets see...put Mario and Hughes on as OUTside LB's, and then.....where do we put Brown, Kiko, Bradham...oh, we sit one of our best assets.....Manny Lawson out? My view, Rex system change hurts our D, despite his reputation...our personnel were better in the 4-3. Just not sure Rex knows how to get off his formula/script....despite his statements he wants to use round pegs in round holes. Color me discouraged as we have gone through this kind of change before, and its always "wait unitl next year until they know the system" This is Bills BS failing at itw worst. Repeated making the same mistake. This will be my last year as a season ticket holder, I can't stand the inept management. (yes, the Sainted Pegula's blew it, bringing in the NY Jets staff)

I don't know how long you've had season tix, but of all the crap this team has put fans through, THIS is what causes you to give up? Hiring arguably the best defensive mind in football to manage one of the best and most dynamic defenses in the NFL. Really?

  13. Any two LB sets should be Kiko and Brown. They are the only two with the ability to play run and pass.

Any three LB sets should include the former plus Bradham.

The fourth LB will most likely be Hughes or Lawson. If we lose Hughes, Justin Houston perhaps.

I know it's been over a year, but doesn't anyone remember how poor Kiko was against the run, which is why he was immediately moved from the middle. I'm curious to see if he can play outside well enough.
