  1. I would prefer signing Sam Bradford to Mark Sanchez
  2. I believe that Scwartz will receive the bulk of his salary from the Lions, not the Bills
  3. Fred Jackson has been a great player for the Bills, but it was painfully obvious this season---especially after he came back from the groin injury---that he has a lost at least two steps and that exposes him to more hits than in the past. At 34, he is only going to deteriorate and be more injury prone if he continues to play. If he comes back, his role is as a third down, pass-blocking specialists at best. I was hoping that he would gracefully retire as a player and be brought back as a RB coach. If we try to go into the season with him as our lead back, we are going to be in big trouble. Beyond Jackson, I think Rivers is a likely roster casualty along with Urbik and Pears. Williams' future depends upon his health--he didn't play enough to really gauge his ability last season. I suspect Spikes (provided he is realistic in salary expectations) and Lawson will find a place in Ryan's defensive scheme. Chandler will be back, but hopefully we find a more talented receiver to split snaps at TE with him. Gay is a question mark, but his kickoffs certainly contributed to the strong special teams play last year and he just might be kept around. However, I think we will bring in some free agent options to challenge for the punting job.
  4. Bradford is my preferred QB candidate in the off season. He is virtually impossible to trade because he is the last of the big rookie deal QBs. St. Louis has made it clear that they want him back IF he is willing to renegotiate his deal. Given all the teams needing a QB, he has ZERO incentive to renegotiate. There will be several teams interested in signing him when he becomes a FA. He will have some options to select from. The chance to come in and start for a Bills team with talent at WR, strong defense and special teams should be enticing. On the down side given his injury problems, the state of our OL will be a concern. Beyond Bradford, Sanchez is probably the next most attractive candidate for us....but there is a huge drop-off in talent and upside potential.
  5. No father-son czar/HC scenarios please. Nepotism is a bad thing in any organization
  6. Couldn't have happened to a "nicer" guy! if he misses out on a NFL job for next year, he will be forced back to collegiate football. My preference for the Bills HC is Frank Reich, with him retaining Schwarz as the DC. Reich understands the game and the league and he knows offense, but more importantly, he is a people first guy who can lay out a strategic plan and get people to buy into it. That is what leadership is all about in the NFL. Finally, he would be a great face for the organization: a coach and leader who can articulate his thoughts in simple, declarative sentences. I got so tired of hearing Marrone babble and struggl when he tried to answer the simplest of questions. it was embarrassing to listen to him represent the Bills.
  7. I really liked the dichotomy you drew. I suspect DD is closest to the real world
  8. Cowher is quoted today as saying he is happy at CBS and doesn't want to return to coaching at the moment. What about Gus Malzahn...a really innovative guy on offense and a success in college as a HC?
  9. I heard the same comments on Sirius. he is a complete idiot who has a lot of facts wrong...and that undermines any opinions he offers. Plus , he can't say ASK...he promounces it AKS.
  10. I was at the game and was impressed with Preston Brown's speed and ability to get very deep in pass coverage...especially on one third down throw over the middle. He was in perfect position. Coaches are still experimenting with LB combinations in third down passing situations Short yardage run game is still a problem. However, we need to make better play calls. Slow developing run plays don't work at the goal line because they allow for penetration. Blockers do need to get lower for leverage, but the play calls don't make it any easier for them. Would like to see more quick hitters from the FB position or even QB sneaks.
  11. Don't know about bars, but there is usually a food truck grilling Sahlen's hot dogs within a block of the stadium :-)
  12. I like Mack or Watkins in the first...whichever slides to #9. Both are immediate high impact players...a must. Then would like Niklas in the second round. The OL in the third and fourth rounds..
  13. I would take Troy Niklas as the TE of choice at #42...he is a far more complete player than your guy
  14. I would take Troy Niklas over any of the other prospects at TE. He is huge, blocks well, runs well/stretches the seam, has good hands, wins jump balls, gets good yardage after the catch and has shown steady improvement year to year. This is a complete player who is only going to continue to get better in the future. He would be a steal in Round Two or second half of the first if we trade down.
  15. Unfortunately, respecting a player's right to privacy is necessary. However, you would think the team could at least say whether he is expected to be available for the coming season or simply say that is return date is unknown due to non-football related issues.
  16. I'd never make this trade. We need impact players, not roster depth built via trading down for more lower picks.
  17. It would be great if Gilmore could get rid of that cast and return to a regular role at CB. That would allow Aaron Williams to move back to safety and cover a guy like Graham. I think he would match up very well with Graham. Too bad the game is in New Orleans. The Saints are so much tougher at home.
  18. Dear old Ralph just turned 95. He is the oldest surviving founder. Give him credit for finally stepping away from active management of the team. Sadly, some day in the not too distant future, we will learn that he too has passed...and then our troubles will really begin.
  19. it was better that he fell on it and did not try to advance it. If he had scored we would have given Miami a lot more time to go down the field and score, using all the time left. It was scary enough when we left them 33 seconds to try and mount a comeback---especially after that poor kickoff and even worse coverage. Give the guy credit for getting his priorities right: secure the ball at all costs and don't try to do more than you are reasonably capable of.
  20. I share your pain on Barret Jones. I was hoping for them to pick him from the fourth round on. He would have been the ultimate backup player across the entire OL.
  21. My only worry would be the Jets trying to get ahead of us...and they will be ahead of us in the second round. They definitely have the ability to spoil our draft plans if they so choose. Fortunately, they need their draft picks even more than we do to restock their roster. However, even if Geno Smith is gone by pick number 8, all the other QB options are likely to be in front of us at 8...and following Matt Barkley's pro day later this week---and the likelihood that he will have a great pro day like just about every pro day turns out--- even Geno may be there for us. It all comes down to which QB the Bills feel is the best for our offense.
  22. I could see them drafting two QBs...one in the first round and another like Tyler Bray in the fourth round if he is still there. It seems that we will need to fill at least two of our four needs at OG,S, LB, TE in free agency before or after the draft. There are plenty of good WR options in the second and third round of the draft. The idea of drafting two QBs as Washington did last year makes sense on two levels: it reduces downside risk of not getting even one serviceable player; and it provides an opportunity to develop depth at the position. Washington executed it perfectly last year getting a starter and a good backup. We should only be so lucky this year.
  23. Fred Davis is the only real option left in free agency, but teams seem to be waiting to assess his recovery from Achilles tendon injury. If healthy, he could really improve our passing game. Because of other needs, it is hard to see us picking one up in the draft before round 4.
