  1. They certainly aren’t operating at maximum potential. The NFL can afford mismanagement but you are starting to see the impact on their other businesses. I know people hate to hear it but Russ Brandon covered a lot of that for years. He was very strong at what he did and his team was too. Those guys have trickled our over the last couple of years too. It’s like any business in that you are only as strong as your leadership. The leadership on the business side has been messy. There’s no doubt about that.
  2. I don’t know the exact structure there and it seems to be evolving. Typically the marketing team oversees game presentation, broadcast, graphic design, promotions and branding. There are other ends of it too but it is generally on the expense side of the ledger. Sales fall elsewhere. Depending on the organization it may be developed internally and executed externally. As an example you ticket packaging would fall to this. The general look and branding will be developed by marketing and the design by your graphic design team (if you have one). The data that populates will come from the ticket operations department. By the time all of that is built out it will be outsourced to a company that will produce the material. It’s really like any business in that sense. A lot of development is done in house and then the production is outsourced. The one area where it is unique is that almost all outsourced work in sports comes with elements of trade and not just cash. Companies are compensated in advertising, tickets, experiences as well as cash. It’s one of the reasons that teams make so much money. They leverage/force soft assets on businesses instead of just writing a check.
  3. Oh, no doubt them buying the Bills was a good thing. That doesn’t mean that they are good at running the business. Those 2 things aren’t related.
  4. I guess that I have it as a 2 game swing based on 1 game that Cam will steal plus 1 game where Hoyer/Stidham would be horrible and hand away. The Pats shouldn’t be too good either way but they are absolutely better with Cam (if healthy) than those 2 stooges behind him. They were never the plan though. It could have been Dalton. It could have been Cam. It could have been Mariota. It could have been Herbert. It was never going to be Stidham/Hoyer. That was wishful thinking on our part. I so desperately wanted them to go that route.
  5. Thanks man!! It’s been some rain for us but fortunately we missed the worst of it. It ended up about 2-3 hours west. It’s always scary and I feel for those that took the brunt of it.
  6. It really is. I don’t expect Cam to be great but I expect him to be competent. The gap from Stidham/Hoyer to competent is a chasm. The Patriots went from the worst QB room in the league to competent. That’s the difference between being a 6 win team and an 8 or 9 win team (the opt outs play a role too).
  7. Nope, but you don’t need to be jersey guy either. That’s kind of the point. Instead of spending $20 on a nameplate swap that doesn’t work use that $20 on a Bills shirt or hat. Go to 26 shirts and get something fun there that supports a good cause as well. That’s just an infinitely better look than a different font on the back of an old jersey. If you want to be jersey guy you can always get one like Kelly that will always work. You can also get someone that will be here for a little while like Edmunds or Diggs. That way you don’t have to invest every year but there is never a situation where the nameplate looks good. Everyone notices the fake jerseys. You’re better off with the duct tape. That pic made me laugh too. I had to catch up to the guy to get it. Glad I did!!
  8. Not really surprised. When they used that pick on Bass it was his job to lose and he hasn’t lost it.
  9. Also, we need to understand the marketing departments role at the Bills. Marketing and sales are not the same. The sales fall under ticket sales and service or business development. Those departments probably have about 40 or so full time employees between them.
  10. The people responsible for developing tag lines and graphic design don’t impact wins and losses....
  11. The Pegulas just aren’t very good at the business side of sports. They never have been.
  12. I do have one exception and it’s a guy that I encountered last year in Cleveland at the game.
  13. I actually prefer the duct tape to the switch. That says, “I’m being ironic.” The nameplate switch says, “I’m trying to deceive you into thinking this is a Diggs Jersey. It really is a Watkins Jersey and a $17.95 investment in changing the name.”
  14. Guys, you don’t play an awful football player ahead of a former MVP. If Cam is healthy, I am as likely to start at QB for the Pats as Hoyer. It’s the same with Stidham. This was never a QB competition. They waited until Cam’s price dropped and they got their QB.
  15. I heard a story earlier this offseason and it was from a coach who was black. It may have been a Bills coach or an NBA guy or something. I don’t remember who it was. Obviously though he’s making a few hundred thousand dollars a year. He lives in a complex of sorts. He was talking about when he goes to throw his garbage at night he has to make sure that he doesn’t have a hoodie on to avoid getting harassed by cops/neighbors. That kind of blew my mind. That would never even cross my mind. My parents never told me how to react if I get pulled over, where to keep my hands, etc... That’s not a world that I’ve ever lived in.
  16. I’ve been in confrontations before but I’ve never driven 30 minutes with an assault rifle to enter those conflicts. One would think that he was looking for trouble and not “good trouble.”
  17. I posted videos earlier of guys chasing cops with nunchucks and/or a knife. Cops shouldn’t be shooting anyone unless they are in an active shootout. That’s kind of how we’ve gotten here. Non-lethal force must be used. There’s a reason for the outrage across the country on this and it isn’t because it was good, but unfortunate, police work. It was a disaster.
  18. I’ve kind of said my piece but we’ve seen people that have killed many walk away peacefully. I think that he should have been detained, arrested and tried. That’s the way it should have worked. 7 shots to the back followed by 2 more people getting murdered while protesting isn’t right. The punishment didn’t meet the crime.
  19. It’s funny because I feel like this year I’m less ready for football than ever. It’s strange because I think that the Bills are going to be really, really good. We just have had a lack of information from the media and no preseason games. I feel less informed. After the last week though of videos and updates I’ve been salivating. Every time I hear about Diggs or Gabe Davis or Moss I just want it to begin!! This might be a special year for the Bills.
  20. @NoSaint I second the stay safe part. I don’t know where exactly you are but it’s going to be pretty terrible down through LaFourche. I’m right by City Park so it’s mostly rain and hopefully no storm surge. Think we are okay. Prayers out to all of you in the eye of the storm.
  21. That’s a fair question but if you follow these guys they lead. I fully expect them to continue on the front lines of this.
  22. So a killer was arrested? That’s good news. What about the cops that killed Breonna Taylor? We can keep going down this rabbit hole but if you think that was acceptable; I think you’re a bad person.
  23. Not unrelated in the conversation of you go back through the thread. One guy killed 9 people, sent the cops on a 16 hour manhunt, got Burger King and a trial. One guy violated his parole, went to his car and was shot 7 times in the back. Those crimes and arrests were not handled the same.
