  1. Yes, when I said he was being civil, I meant in the original interview that the OP was referring to. I can't honeslty find any benefit of any athlete having a twitter account...I realize that havig 'twitter" followers could boost ones' product endorsement possibilties...but not more than winning games. The only time you hear about athletes twittering, is when they say something stupid...it just seems like a lose-lose proposition to me.
  2. Well, other than an experience edge, I have seen little from Morrison to make me think he would make the defense much better...but I like his radio show!
  3. Well, I just mean that I could try to make a bunch of wavier moves for guys that I think might have favorable match ups this week, but in reality, might not be better than the back-ups I already have. Or, I could try to pull off a trade of some sort... Also, just in general, when you are drafting your team, how much do you worry about bye-weeks?
  4. For better or worse, these are our guys, this is our team...the one we are going to be pulling for every Sunday, no matter how much they suck. I know there isn't anything "wrong" with it...but seeing fans bashing our best players (I don't think Steve Johnson or Fred Jackson deserve fan ire), in person, or on twitter, just bums me out. These guys have jobs in the NFL because they are perceived to be great athletes...not for their golden tounges. Steve Johnson, at least, was man enough to make his regular radio appearences, listen to the criticisms, and keep it civil. He generally tries to stay very positive.
  5. Okay, I have a team that is thin in depth...and this week I have 5 guys who I would always start (Cam Newton, Jonathan Stewart, Marques Colston, Jimmy Graham, Garrett Heartly), all off because of the bye week. I need to pick up a kicker (I have only one on my roster), but am in a bit of a quandry about the others. I don't think I can significantly improve my roster through the waiver wire...do I just stand pat, and keep my fingers crossed that all my backup guys come through, this one week..or do I try to make a bunch of moves to win one game? I play in a 12 team leauge, where most of the folks are pretty shrewd....and some of the others just don't make any trades, no matter how much sense they might make for them.
  6. I don't think Fitz gets benched in the next few weeks...but if things continue the way they are, it could happen after the bye week...because Gailey will have to do something to try to save his job. Simply standing pat, and professing your belief in a guy that is playing horribly, week after week, isn't going to get him far. When the stars are alligned (or the Bills are playing a so-so team) Fitz is still capable of putting up good Fantasy Football numbers...if he manages to weahther this current storm, the Bills have a bunch of mediocre teams on their schedule, the second half of the season.
  7. What I found much more interesting about the interview that the OP is referring to (which I heard), was that Stevie said that (paraphrasing) that guys were too afraid to get in the face of other guys who weren't performing well...on the sideline they are "in a shell", and there just is not a lot of passion on the sidelines during the games. He also said (again paraphrasing) that it is a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. He says he plays with a lot of fire and passion, but his behavior has been modified by the coaches, and the criticisms he takes from the media.... if he gets emotional on the sidelines, or in the face of teammates, and they lose, it is a "distraction", if they win it is "leadership". The comment about "maybe we will see the 49ers in the Super Bowl" is being taken out of context of the conversation, and anyone slamming him for that is an idiot (Tom! )....it was his way of saying that they aren't giving up on the season....this was only one game, etc etc...
  8. Is it me, or does it seem like whenever an opposing receiver catches a short pass, all of the sudden he looks a foot taller, and much faster than anyone on the Bills defense? Brutal...like the Bills defense, as a collective has to gather themselves for a second to figure out where the receiver is going to go...they are going toward the !@#$ing endzone!!!!!!! Cool, and here I was worried that Gailey would get canned, and Wannestedt would be the next headcoach!
  9. As usual, you missed my point...CFA has since announced that they will not donate money to the offending groups....did they do that out of some sudden feeling of guilt? Or, did they do it when they saw that it was going to affect their bottom line? And btw- Focus On the Family is not the "radical" group Chik Fil-A was donating to.
  10. I was happy to see him too... I would have liked to see a few other guys get some playing time too, as, essentially, this was a pre-season like game for the Bills. Of course, I was clamoring for Thigpen early in the third quarter.
  11. I am one step away from "you kids get off my lawn"...but I am really starting to hate sports culture in general. Fans are a-holes, and players respond in kind. Since the NFL is so worried about the stupidest ****, I wish they would have the balls to forbid players under contract from having twitter accounts....it does nothing positive for anyone.
  12. What I find troubling is the lack of fire this team seems to play with. Whether that is coaching, players, I don't know...but you would think after the absolute man-handling they took from New England last week, they would show up today, at least, ready to play...they looked zombified from the opening kick off. Funny thing is, I was never one of those who was sure we had a playoff contending team on our hands this year. In fact, doing my own personal W-L predictions for this team, before the season, I had them at exactly 2-3 after five weeks...even predicted the games they would win and lose...I never, however, imagined they would play as poorly as they have in these games. Most probably would have predicted a loss for the Bills in San Franciso, but I was under some illusion that this team would give them a fight...maye lose 24-17, or something along those lines. I also felt the defense would take a little time to gel...but never envisioned franchise historical lows in the first 5 weeks of the season...just miserable all the way around.
  13. The trade of Forte for RGIII/A.Brown got vetoed? Under what grounds? It seems like a fair deal to me, especially since you are in a keeper league. You are getting a QB that, at least in most leagues, was likely drafted as a backup, and the the other person is getting a starting caliber running back.
  14. Two questions: Which QB to start? Cam Newton (Carolina) vs Seattle Andy Dalton (Cincinnati) vs Miami I keep hearing/reading about how bad Cam Newton has been this year...but other than one sub-par game, he has been pretty solid in fantasy terms, for my league. Dalton, on the other hand, has been pretty solid to spectacular each week... I have been tempted to start him (Cam was my second pick), wondering if this is a the week...or should I just stick with my starters? I normally stick with that philosophy, but my team isn't so strong that I can afford to leave a lot of points on the bench. Which FLEX? Jonathan Stewart (Carolina) vs Seattle Michael Crabtree (San Fran) vs Buffalo Nate Washington (Tennessee) @Minnesota Jerome Simpson (Minnesota) vs Tennessee I hate going against the Bills if I don't have to...but I could just see Crabtree having a huge game against us... Stewart is frustrating, because I know the guy is talented, but, they split carries, and his status seems perpetually "questionable". This week, however, for the first time in a long, long time, he is not listed on the Panthers injury report. Washington (with Hasselbeck at QB) and Jerome Simpson (reportedly a favorite of Ponders', on a team that doesn't pass much) are also possible good plays...or they could be awful.
  15. Assuming you have a decent group of running backs, Forte for RGIII in a keeper league sounds like a great deal, for you. I like Forte a lot, as an NFL running back, but, he is another year older, has been battling nagging injuries, and, has always had some limitations, inherent in the Bears offense, that limit his greatness. I live the deal... if you can get McCoy for Stafford, I love the deal!
  16. And you don't think it was blown up a bit by the conservative-religious faction of the Republican party? You can rail on all you want about "liberal fascists" and their causes...but you seem oblivious to the irony in that. What so many miss about the whole Chik Fil-A dust up (though it has been made loads of times): it wasn't Cathy's words, it was their corporate decision to donate money to anti-gay organizations (some very radical)....if you happen to agree with their stance, you won't have a problem with it. If you don't you may consider whether you want to spend your money, supporting a company that will redistribute your money to causes you are opposed to. Once the euphoria of their "record sales" days from the controversy settled, being the dollar worshipers they are, Chik-Fil A has since issued a statement that they will no longer donate to these groups...I found that pretty funny. Money talks..."freedom" has its' price.
  17. I thought he was blaming it all on Fitz!
  18. You can tell from the what he says, and the way he says it, Whitner loved his teammates in Buffalo... the anti-Whitner sentiment on this board, is one of the more puzzling things I can remember.
  19. Okay...I am getting it from the same polls that, today, are showing Romney got a nice "bump" from his performance last night...should I not believe that either?
  20. Oh...you are not the only one who thought it was a bad debate... it wasn't over for two minutes before the MSNBC folks were saying it was a poorly run/moderated debate. Flipped to Fox and CNN as well...CNN was critical....FOX was just Hannity and Rudy Guliani (I can't think of few people in the political/media relm that I despise more than these two) beaming, acting as though they just won the election. Debates are mostly a dog and pony show....Mitt was definitely the best in show tonight. Obama has to be concerned about Biden next week...that could go either way...
  21. As DC Tom said, this debate isn't going to change anyones mind...at least not those that post on political message boards. Most Americans, I would dare say, don't really follow this stuff every day...for many, I have no doubt (60 million viewers they are saying?) this is the first prolonged exposure they have had to Mitt Romney. And, as someone who will not vote for him, I must say, I was impressed. If this was all I had seen of him, I might even consider voting for him. He gave a great performance, and did exactly what he had to do to save his sinking campaign. I suspect he will see a substantial bump in the polls in the swing states (and then the Republicans will forget, all of the sudden, all the titty-babying they have done saying that the polls are skewed in favor of Obama), and will narrow the margins over the next week. Early CNN polls are already showing that, amongst those describing themselves as "undecided" that Romney was viewed as the "winner" tonight by almost 70%. That will surely translate in to some votes. For some reason, Obama took a much more deferential approach to this debate than I suspected. He did the same thing in the early Democratic primary debates way back...looks like the gloves come off in two weeks....Romney didn't make any "amazing points", but Obama did a poor job of taking him to task for the bs he was spewing...he gave Romney a pass. Romney took advantage.
  22. Uh...Lehrer was referring to Romney's use of the term "trickle down government".... Mitt used that term first, and used it a few times... he was using it as a criticism of Obama.
  23. I actually got a little choked up watching that. My only complaint was that it turned out to be more of a testament to the greatness of Bill Belechik than anything... I couldn't help but think how this kind of thing might play out in Buffalo... the attachment we have to these teams is so strong.
  24. Cliche as it may be...he is playing in the 4th game of his NFL career, at a positon that may be the hardest, or second hardest in all of football. Even the best DB's are going to get beat now and again. I am sure he will get burned a few times too...but that doesn't make him a bad player.
