  1. Great episode tonight...Don's conversation about being a father really hit home..I am not a father, but I can apply the same thing he said to so many things....I think it is more common, but you rarely hear anyone (especially on tv) put it into words.. Also loved the "Planet Of the Apes" scene...that movie meant a whole lot to me, glad that Weiner and company recognized its' cultural significance. btw- stay tuned for the series premiere of "Rectify" afterwards. It is a new Sundance Chanel series that they debuted on AMC after Mad Men, to give it a wider audience I would presume. It was really good...from the producers of "Breaking Bad". Its' about a guy who gets off of death row after 19 years, and trying to fit back into the real world. Stunning to look at...very cinematic quality. The actress who plays the man guys' sister is super foxy! She is the same girl who played the school teacher that Draper had a fling with, way back, on "Mad Men"... they are showing the second and third episodes on Sundance tomorrow...I will definitely watch some more. Only bummer is, my cable doesn't have Sundance in HD! Stupid!
  2. It is only "pretty clear" when you have the benefit of knowing who picks #17-32 were. You also assume that the Bills could have easily swung a deal with any other team picking later in the first round. Hindsight is always 20/20! I can be as critical as anyone of the Bills, but anyone (including all the professional "experts") who is blasting the Bills for this pick is doing so, because they just want to have team draft to criticize....and the Bills are easy to pick on. The Bills got the guy they wanted (obvious, because he was the first QB taken) and, in the process, got another top 50 pick. The still got Robet Woods (a highly ranked prospect at WR, another area of great need)...not sure why so many are bitching about this draft. I am not crazy about the Marquise Goodwin pick, but I like the top 3 picks.
  3. Assuming you are serious (I know everyone here doesn't do hockey), for better or worse, Ryan Miller has been the face of the Buffalo Sabres franchise for about 7 years. The fans have a love/hate thing with him... he is just one of those guys who is lights out incredible some nights, decent others...but yeah, he has some clunkers now and again. The increasingly hostile crowd at Frontier arena gave him a pretty roungh time last Friday night. The team was hanging on to the smallest of threads in hopes of grabbing the last playoff spot in the East. They needed to beat the Rangers, at home, to keep their very thin hopes alive...Miller had one of his clunker nights...after one particularly bad goal, where he misplayed the puck, Miller took a lot of abuse from fans. He kind of gestured to the booing fans, as if to say "bring it on"... He will start the last game of the season tonight, against the Islanders in what would be a meaingless game...except the start will be his 500th as a Sabre (only 10 other goalies have that many starts with one team, I believe I heard), and likely his last.
  4. I am delighted with this pick. I didn't get to hear much immediate reaction (I was at work), but when I got home around midnight, and turned on ESPN, the NFL Network, and listened to the radio on the way home, I was pretty surprised by the universal condemnation all the heads had for the Bills pick. McShay was just rediculous. It was so funny though, because nearly every one of them precluded their criticism with "I love EJ Manuel, but...." "Nothig against EJ Manuel but..." It was crazy. My own uninfluenced feeling about the pick was excitement. I wasn't really sold on Ryan Nassib, but it jsut seemed like 8 out of 10 analysts seemed confident the Nassib was our guy.
  5. 1- McCartney opening up with "Can't Buy Me Love"....would have been the greatest live music moment for me, ever, if he stopped after that one song. (1989, Madison Square Garden) 2-Joe Strummer inivites the surging audience up on stage for a rip-roaring rowdy version of "Brand New Cadillac"...it sort of turned into a rumble...i was in the midst...snatched a few Clash souveneers during the melee (CNE stadium- Toronto, 1982) 3- My buddy Bruce, a songwriter, playing a song he had just written that day, playing it in front of about 40 people, and everyone in the place kind of stunned afterwards, cuz they knew he had written a classic...it took about 10 years, but Tim McGraw and Faith Hill recorded his song, "Angry All the Time", and it made Bruce some filthy amounts of money... (1992 Austin, TX- Cactus Cafe)
  6. Yeah...George knew... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIB75wyB_5g
  7. Aw man...my favorite singer of all time passed away today... the Cadillac of country singers drives no more. This one really hurts...  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dyns0Fqxg1E
  8. I think the NFL imposed restrictions on ESPN and NFLNetwork about revealing picks before they were officially announced. I caught about half of a conversation between he and Rich Eisen the other day, talking about what they were doing, this year, to "improve NFL draft coverage". I didn't get to see a ton of coverage last night. On ESPN, even when Schefter broke in, while the Bills were on the clock at #8, he said there had been a trade, but the trade details didnt' seem to be detailed, until the Bills picked at #16. According to Goodell, "we listen to our fans", and apparently, showing guys talking on cell phones right before their pick was announced cut down on the suspense for too many...
  9. That is all...starts in about 15 minutes!
  10. RIP Larry!
  11. Baseball kill kids, and it is boring!
  12. What plays? He barely dressed for any games in his 4 years in Buffalo. What makes him worst to me, the Bills traded up to get him, and, the fact, whenever anybody talks about the worst first round draft picks in Bills history, McCargos' name rarely comes up, because he was so utterly forgettable. I recall him recovering a fumble once...
  13. You are wrong on so many counts here. Do you think Jim Kelly wouldn't trade his 0-4 Super Bowl record, for Elways' 2-3 record?
  14. Just in case you missed it, like me (flipping between Sabres and Celtics games...), it will re-run on Wednesday night (4/24) at 10pm eastern, on ESPN2. For me, I loved all those QB's. I miss those days. Elway is my all-time favorite non-Bills player....and while I always hated Marino and the Dolphins, that rivalry was one of the best parts of my sports life. Last Sunday, on NFLN they re-broadcast an "NFL Classic" between the Dolphins and Jets, from 1994. The Dolphins had a big comeback (down by 23 at one point IIRC), and Marino pulled off the "fake spike" for the winning TD. I still remember that game...man I was pissed. IIRC, though the Bills were having an off season (after 4 Super Bowl appearances) they still got their mojo up the next Sunday night to destroy the Dolphins in Miami...I always thought of that game as the "last hurrah" for the Super Bowl era Bills. Miss that one brief shining moment when the Bills were relevant...
  15. I seem to recall that many here (not necessarily anyone in this thread), including some of the more revered posters on the board, were really all for the Bills getting rid of "fat Pat". One of these illustrious posters (an old friend who doesn't post here any more) even broke down Williams play, and came to the conclusion that he was hardly ever on the field at key times (maybe why they were losing?)...and surely wasn't worth a raise. I don't remember it all now...but I seem to remember being in the minority on the "letting Pat Williams go is a big mistake". It seems to be an accepted fact now... the same way some ridicule anyone who thinks letting a productive player go (think David Nelson or Donald Jones), because, "after all, haven't the Bills proved by now that they know what they are doing? What do fans know?" I notice when it comes to issues like this, people get very emotional about Ralph WIlsons' money.
  16. John McCargo is the worst Bills first round pick of the last 25 years. Though, Maybin would be a very close second... I have had that conversation more than once....
  17. Yes. I would love to see the Bills grab Patterson or Austin with #8, and then, if they have to, trade up to the late first round for their QB...but only if they truly think somebody is worth it. We have been watching sub-par QB'ing for 12+ years now, what is another year?
  18. When did collars start requiring "technology"?
  19. I hear you, but I always hated the Jags uniforms!
  20. One of the talking heads on the NFL Network said it last night....they were speculating as to whether the Bills biggest need was a WR, to which talking head interjected, "the Bills may have the worst QB and WR situation in the league...they need both...but they should go QB." Or something along those lines.
  21. Probably an old joke, but I heard that one on "Boardwalk Empire"... a great joke!
  22. Not bad....but I gotta say, would like the helmet better if they went with all gold instead of the "fade" look. Also, take the gold shouleder stripes off the shoulders...too busy looking.
  23. Or helmets, jerseys...the kinds of things that people like us pay $100's of dollars for, on-line...
  24. As one who "knows someone", there is more to this story. Hojo has only himself to blame for his current unemployment with the Buffalo Bills. Don't lose sight of the fact that there were a handful of NFL equipment managers let go by their teams, around the same time....
