Can Fitzpatrick be an upper echelon QB?
San-O replied to Billsrhody's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think you AND JFH are both right: The days of game managers do seem further and further away, however Fitz is what we have right now, and if the Bills want to get a sniff this year, they need to go more with what is working for them and stop forcing the passing game. I fault Gailey more than anything else. Going over some of the games logs in critical possessions/situations if revealing. -

For his career he has 68 TDs and 65 INTs. That seams more of a decision issue than mechanics, IMO. http://www.nfl.com/player/ryanfitzpatrick/2506581/profile -
Nix's draft record with Bills very encouraging.

To take a RB like Spiller 7th overall and put him behind another really good back, on a 3-13 team is just stupid. Troup was the next pick, high 2nd rounder who most likely won't make the team. Carrington may be serviceable. 2010 = bad drafting -
The passs-pass-run/pass-punt offense? + 1 Gailey really needs to show something on the play calling dept. this season. All I've really seen is predictable and D coordinators aren't fooled.

The only way Kelsay gets 7.5 sacks this year is if 7 different Qb's heads spontaneously combust and they simply run into Kelsay and fall down! I also think he'll be fine in rotation.

1. The question should be, does Merriman make it through training camp, and if so, how many games does he appear in before being injured again. 2. IF he plays, it would be situational as other posters suggest on the weak side. Pass rush specialist. 3. I have never seen so much posted or written about a player who has done so little as Merriman has for the Bills. 4. He's had a total of five (5) sacks since '07. 5. Gailey allowed Kelsay to play linebacker for some insane reason, so who really knows where Merriman may show up. 6. http://www.nfl.com/player/shawnemerriman/2506350/profile Someone create a post / poll asking the over - under of how many games or how many sacks Merriman has this year. I don't think many people really expect much, but people just can't help projecting production or performance.

Didn't he injure himself jumping around on the sidelines last year? If Gailey can't get this offense going after the collapse last season, he's going to be in real trouble. Particulary with Wanny and the D coming on like I expect them to. Just saying. -
Bill Parcells once said something about losing 1 game for every rookie you start, and that may or may not be true, however the more I see about Gilmore the more I think this guy will be the real deal. It is a critical position and mistakes are to be expected, however sounds really good so far. Quote from article: By Kevin Fishbain (Gilmore)s done more than we thought he would do with what weve exposed him to, Nix told Chris Brown of the teams website. Nothing surprises him. Hes a patient guy. He doesnt bite on every move, hes smart and has deceiving strength and great speed. Sounds like he's coming along nicely! Hopefully will turn out to be starting CB for years to come and stop the revolving door. http://www.profootballweekly.com/2012/07/04/bills-counting-on-rookies-at-crucial-positions

??? Players get hurt playing Pro sports and signed a release saying so. And were paid, and had the NFLPA rep'ing them. Done. Sue the NFLPA.

Good responses/knowledgeable posts in this thread. I was uncertain and looking at the situation with some doubt, however now feel pretty good about the O-line going into the season, and backup/depth as well. This could be the best prepared O-line the Bills have had in a long time, assuming the key guys are ready for camp, which it seems like they will.
-
Thx Col. Urbik did move to center to finish the 2011 year. Don't remember much about how he did.
-
I am very interested, as many are, re: that state of the O-line. Looking online seeing the status below, training camp starting soon: o Eric Pears - Starting tackle - missing all the OTAs and minicamp. He is expected to be ready for training camp. o Eric Wood - Starting center - did not take part in OTAs and is missing minicamp. http://www.billsdaily.com/depthchart/ So right now we're missing a C and OT. Urbik is listed as backup center, however also starting G. Bills obviously drafted Glenn as T. With training camp starting soon (date?) Glenn would be starting LT and there is no C, Colin Brown? 2) OT Cordy Glenn, Georgia 6-5 3/4, 345, 5.15 - Glenn is a huge player with tremendous length and size. The Bills feel those characteristics make him a perfect player to man the blindside of the quarterback despite the fact he played guard most of his college career. Hand span and arm length are above average and has decent footwork. He has good mobility in pass protection for his size. Gets a good push in run blocking.

What does "Fitz needs to be better" mean?
San-O replied to Rivermont Mike's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He led the league in INT's, so I don't know what more you can ask really. I would say fewer soul crushing, game losing, horribly timed INT's would be my choice. -
I don't know that mechanics is going to change the INTs that much. He led the league in INTs. That's not good.

Ladanian Tomlinson retired today

On the radio talk show out here with info. and interview snippets. His last 100 yard game was against the Bills as a Jet, ran all over the Bills for 7 yards/carry average. http://www.nfl.com/player/ladainiantomlinson/2504778/gamelogs?season=2010 -
That's going to be SOME D line. I really can't wait to see them in action.
-
Maybe it's just me, but you are the one who seems to be on a crusade for Kelsay. He's a warm body to put out there, IMO.
-
Yes, his AND mine. Understatement.
-
He has been one of the weakest D players on one of the worst defenses in the NFL, two years running. I guess he's good, they're paying him good, and Chan says so.
-
This is really a strange post/angle on the Bills offense, but I will take a shot. We know they are mostly castoffs, and low round draft picks, but so what, for now. Most on this board, that post anyhow, seem to believe the main reason the Bills offense went from very good to very bad, was the injuries that were growing and Fitz being injured.
-
Well, each is entitled to their own opinion. And I hate to seem like I'm defending Jauron, I'm not, but the defense was actually right about average when Chan took over. They broke it down, went to the 3-4 that they couldn't run and didn't have players for, and now are reverting back. Bills were like # 19 in yards/game and 15 in points/game on defense in 2009. Defense was horrible after Chan took over. http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?archive=false&conference=null&role=OPP&offensiveStatisticCategory=null&defensiveStatisticCategory=GAME_STATS&season=2009&seasonType=REG&tabSeq=2&qualified=true&Submit=Go
