  1. totally agree. I also think it is worse in college bball than football. Maybe because the rosters are smaller and the NIL money is less overall than football, but i feel NIL is ruining bball more than football.
  2. Richard pitino is a solid hire. Are you ready to un-quit Xavier?!
  3. he will be great in year 1…. Before turning into a cancerous malcontent.
  4. I can’t believe this is even a debate. Who else is seriously building stadiums without roofs anymore? In the last 15 years, maybe just San Fran is open? I get that Buffalo might not ever host a SB. But can easily get a higher return with a closed stadium. Think of all the major NCAA events, which are now in similar medium-sized cities like Cleveland, Detroit, and Indy. I think Detroit is even hosting the final four in the next year or two!
  5. I was at the store the other day and the cashier saw my bills gear and said, “you better watch it— KC might tie you guys.” I had no idea what he was talking about. He then said, “yeah, If they make the SB this year, that will be four in a row, just like the Bills. I didn’t think anyone would ever do that again.” Never even dawned on me that KC has gone to three straight, and this year could be four. Our four in a row was an unreal accomplishment (that I think we take for granted, since we never won), and I think yet another reason we need to take KC down this year.
  6. i hear you. I have a buddy whose kids are all grown and he loves high school bball. Just goes to a bunch of different games all the time. Much more fun!
  7. Yup, all about the money for coaches and players now, I guess. Just have to spend more and load your team up with 23-years old grad transfers now. No surprise that no mid majors made the sweet 16 this year.
  8. my buddy went to Xavier and is a die hard Xavier guy. He’s totally fed up too. I really can’t believe Miller left them again. Plus, to go a school where bball is second fiddle. Really pathetic.
  9. great memory. I totally forgot about Jordan almost making that.
  10. Larry Bird (as coach of Indiana pacers) totally expressionless when Reggie Miller hits GW 3 against the Bulls in the conference championship.
  11. Agreed. One of my favorite things was watching the younger guys develop over a few years. No chance for that anymore.
  12. Looking like Elijah Moore, Chris Bell, and Kyle Cuffe all are transferring. Surprised about Moore.
  13. Nice try, Beane. Another fake name. Going to have to do better than that.
  14. The Horncek thing is so vivid in my mind! Totally forgot about him.
  15. it’s been a while since I listened to him. But as I recall, those guys are on for smaller segments in the shows? I do think there is a real benefit to the podcast duo. Just about every great podcast has that, even if the second person doesn’t say a lot. Helps to facilitate the conversation in a more natural and less scripted way. it’s one of the reasons I tend to listen to Cover One more (though Cover One has its flaws too).
  16. I wish he had a co-host. Need some more back and forth in that podcast.
  17. McNeese State. Big win today. Not sure they can beat Purdue, but hopefully will give them a game.
  18. Mets Middle reliever Turk Wendell (90s) would always hop over the foul line, careful to not touch it. (I think he used to also brush his teeth between innings too, and had about 100 other superstitions). Jose Oquendo from the Cards (80s) played at every position.
  19. You make a great point. Free agency is largely designed for the lower tier players and for teams to fill out their rosters with those guys. I think teams can strike gold on certain types of players— mostly, the aging vet that might have a good year left (Henry), or the rough or underused prospect that has never been given much playing time. But otherwise, what’s the difference between Sherfield and Harty?
  20. All of yours are great choices. For me, I would rank my top 5 as: 1) Opening weekend of NFL 2) Opening round of March Madness 3) AFC/NFC Championship weekend 4) Thanksgiving Day football 5) Sunday at the Masters
  21. I think he might have a different definition of “making plays in the playoffs” than the rest of us.
  22. That is a pretty interesting stat. i guess my view is we have a QB in his prime that is absolutely deadly in indoor stadiums. So let’s build him one!
  23. this is awesome. they are paying $2.4 B for this and we are paying $2.1 B for our roofless stadium! Just nuts.
