  1. It is an observation. That is all.
  2. I do not want to get political, but I believe that is one reason why LaCanfora (and some others) went after Rex so hard and made it so personal. Of course, there are others whose negative views of him had nothing to do with politics. Just my two cents.
  3. FWIW - Willis McGahee is the 41st leading rusher in NFL history between Jim Taylor (40) and Earnest Byner (42) and ahead of guys like Herschel Walker, Roger Craig, Maurice Jones-Drew, Garrison Hearst,Terrell Davis. He finished his career with 8,474 career rushing yards and 4.0 yards per carry. Interestingly, McGahee finished with only 638 fewer career rushing yards than Marshawn Lynch and 2,388 rushing yards more than Travis Henry. LeSean McCoy currently is in 38th place and has 480 more career rushing yards.
  4. Thank you John. This became obvious to some of us before the press conference. As people know here, I defended the guy until I concluded that he threw Rex under the bus with the Pegulas, Jason LaCanfora, and others (my opinion and judgment). I concluded that the guy was a weasel who undermined the head coach and the team for selfish reasons and did so just before the team was about to play the most important game to that point (Pittsburgh) and even though Rex defended Whaley's most controversial decision (overpaying for Sammy). If my opinion about him is correct and he did what I think he did (people here have a different conclusion about this than I do), I have no use for him . . . or, at a minimum, the Bills should put him on very short leash. I cannot imagine that the Pegulas liked the leaks or how Whaley embarrassed them and the team on the national stage. As embarrassing as that press conference was, I am glad that it happened if that is what it took for the Pegulas to realize what they had in Doug Whaley. Karma is a B word. Deer meet headlights:
  5. All good observations. All good questions.
  6. I am pleased that Marrone will have to answer to Tom Coughlin. This should be fun to watch from the outside. Tom might want to have someone test his food and start his car though.
  7. Something tells me that this is not the last time that this photo will be posted and discussed here.
  8. The guy who tweeted it appears to be a television guy in Jax who is from Buffalo. I wonder if he asked the question.
  9. A question that needed to be asked.
  10. I had no problem with the "shape" of the prior HC and his brother when it comes to coaching. Having said that, I thought that Terry's comments re McDermott and wrestling may have revealed a view (on his part) that the fitness of the HC was indicative of their discipline. While there may be something to that, I also believe that being an NFL coach is among the most unhealthy jobs given the amount of time and stress involved.
  11. Well done Richie.
  12. One of the things with which I disagreed with Rex was the handling of Carpenter in the 2015 season. I think Rex got into his head and Carpenter never was able to get over it. Kickers are like pitchers and goaltenders - head cases.
  13. Sadly, I was not particularly impressed with our previously reliable punter this past year. I also got to the point where I thought the Bills would just be better off not trying to return kickoffs given penalties and the hard time that they seemed to typically have getting the ball past where they would get it with a touch back.
  14. I think our special teams were absolutely horrible this past year. I have no idea if it was because of Crossman or injuries but I think I could live without Crossman. Did Donnie have problems with Whaley? I had not heard that. Inquiring minds want to know.
  15. FWIW (if anything) - Fox sports rates the Bills front office as 29th in the NFL: Buffalo Bills After Rex Ryan was fired, GM Doug Whaley was asked about how the decision was made: "I wasn’t privy to any part of Rex Ryan being fired until I was told by [owner] Terry Pegula,” he said. Then when asked what exactly he does for a living if he's not evaluating coaches or even being in the loop in the evaluation of coaches, Whaley laughed. And still the Bills are only No. 29. http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/ranking-all-32-nfl-front-offices-from-worst-to-first/ss-AAlMhvx?li=BBnb7Kz&ocid=SL5LDHP
  16. I agree regarding your comments with respect to Terry and his observations. They make sense to me as an insight into the guy. I think that was the way Terry meant it. Of course, there are some that always try to search for the dark cloud . . . . At this point, we have no choice but to keep an open mind. It also is good form. The guy is a blank slate as a HC. Let's at least wait to see who his staff will be. I also agree with your tweet that McDermott stands on firmer ground than Whaley. Whaley may have bought himself another year with his behind the scenes machinations. Of course, if McDermott does "succeed" this year, that should be good for Whaley. On the other hand, what will be the measure of success etc.?
  17. Interesting. Not surprising. Now you are going too far.
  18. It could very well be that Whaley preferred one candidate over another. I just do not think that Doug Whaley ever said to the Pegulas that he was AGAINST hiring Rex at that time. Whether he had private thoughts or not, how is anyone to know. I do believe that Whaley did end up feeling overshadowed by someone like Rex and ended up throwing him under the bus even though Rex had publicly had defended Whaley. Hence my reference to Whaley being Fredo. Let me be clear, my view of Whaley as a person changed recently as a result of this. I still think that he is a good scout and talent evaluator. I do find it offensive for someone to suggest that I was asleep or not paying attention. I pay far too much attention to the Bills. In fact, I probably need to pay less attention and spend far less time on this site.
  19. Except that he matched his answers to my particular questions to him by number.
  20. Where is there any source material from the time that would lead one to believe that Whaley was AGAINST hiring Rex? I was accused of being asleep and not paying attention. There is nothing from that time. As for what is in the billsfanatics site, I did not see any quotes from Rex. It does say Rex "said," but there are no quotes as such. It does say: Rex basically confirmed this as he said he did feel Whaley wasn’t too happy with him coaching the team. Ryan went on to say he and Whaley were not on the same page during his two years in Buffalo. This is consistent with my view that Whaley threw Rex under the bus this past year. I still have seen nothing from the time of the hiring or its aftermath that would have led anyone to believe that Whaley was AGAINST the hire. My own view is that Whaley ultimately did not like having someone with more cache than him as the face of the franchise. This is ironic given that Rex defended Whaley and his most controversial decision (trading so much for Sammy).
  21. Let's hope it is before that.
  22. This is a very interesting Whaley quote. Thank you for reminding me. Did you see Whaley's press conference? It will be interesting if he is any better at the next press conference. I cannot imagine it could go any worse. For the same reasons, I can hardly blame the PR department for not insisting that Whaley get out there with the press today. Even his expression on the photo Kim Pegula tweeted was odd.
  23. McDermott seems like a credible guy. He could end up being another Bill Belichick or just another guy. Who knows? Time will tell. At this point, we need to see how it plays out. It will be interesting to see whom he can attract to be on his staff. McCoy would have been nice and I am not sure where that is going or the status of that. I do think it is important for McDermott to have someone experienced upon whom he can lean. I cannot say I am excited or disappointed. I do not know enough about the guy and no one really knows what kind of head coach he will be . . . at least until he actually has the opportunity and some time to be a head coach of a football team on any level.
