California High Court "Overturns" Gay Marriage Ban
blzrul replied to Sketch Soland's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
It's a lot easier than facing the issues and in a country pre-occupied with sex they know it will divert atttention from their ineptitude. -
That's the assumption that Europeans made whilst Hilter was rounding up Jews...surely if something really bad was going on, the world would know, right? Clearly the situations and their magnitude are nowhere near equal; however the premise that "if something was wrong we'd know about it" is at best wishful thinking at at worst extremely naive. Putting blind faith in a government's infallibilty and credibility is a big mistake. I have no illusions about the government's being anything but short-sighted and incompetent.

Surely you jest. According to the self-styled geniuses on this board, only people who are probably evil and want to hurt America are detained. Just like only criminals go to jail. Never innocent people.

Yeh right. There's no way Hillary can catch him now. It's pretty funny to see the Hill spin. She "won" Texas, except Obama came away with more delegates. She "won" Michigan, except Obama didn't campaign there or have his name on the ballot. She's a pandering politician. I don't think she should drop out, let it go to the convention and she can exit gracefully there. I am sure her concession speech has been prepared for weeks.

Vote for Obama or...
blzrul replied to HereComesTheReignAgain's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
By who? The John Birch Society? The KKK? The Christian Coalition? Phyllis Schlafly? It's all relative. -
why have a convention if you already know who the candidate is? i know that the convention also delivers the platform, and the vp candidate, but i am sure there are a handful of instances in the past where a party didn't have a candidate entering the convention....

Primary versus general election. Big difference. It'll be Obama versus Bush Lite. And as I always say - honestly who's in charge affects me not at all. It's an ironic thing that the "swing" voters are usually the ones who feel the most pain when they make a bad choice. So if they swing for McCain, they'll have to live with it.
-
What the Clintonistas don't seem to get is that primary voting is in no way indicative of voting in the general election. If a state is 80% GOP, chances are good that state is going to go GOP. It really doesn't matter who gets 70% of the 20% of the electorate which is not GOP in a primary. I guess they think we're so stupid we don't get it. Just because she won WV doesn't mean squat. It doesn't even say anything about the people of WV, really...although it's fun to hypothesize.

Now be nice to Hillary. Don't mar her projected landslide victory in, uh, West Virginia. Them's her kinda folks.
-
And I should point out to the Wackster that it's "Barack" not "Barak". Someone please call CNN, someone made a public error.
-
Raygun said "trees give off more carbon monoxide than cars" and got elected twice. Everything that comes out of Bush's mouth is stupid. McCain just said that women don't get equal pay because they need more training and experience. Kennedy said he was a jelly donut and Nixon said he wasn't a crook. I don't recall feeding frenzies over any of those either. Yawn.
-
Well think about it! The guys who run the show are bald and ugly like Rove. But those who face the public have that nice patent-leather, improbably black or brown (sans grey) hair. Raygun. Frist. Romney. Warner. The guy who got caught with the hookers (LA, AL or MS)...etc. McCain's not only white-haired but has a comb-over, so he has to compensate. Of course Kerry and Edwards sported quite the hairdo too...which may make them closet Republicans.

Ex-Gitmo prisoner carries out suicide attack
blzrul replied to UConn James's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Oh that's a crock and you know it. Tell me about the dumb German idiot who got pulled off the bus because the US was paying the Pakistanis a bounty for "terrarists", who it was DOCUMENTED BY THE US that he had NO terrorism ties and who was held for 6 years....stupid guy was guilty of being a dumbass, but if that was a crime this board would be shut down. Bush himself had the guy freed because his buddy Ms. German PM decided he owed her for the bad backrub... Your statement is right up there with "of course there are no innocent people on death row." I expect idiocy from most people but you are usually reasonable. -
They're mentioning Carly Fiorina (former HP CEO) as his running mate. She's blond. I guess that's all they care about. They need some pizzazz since he doesn't have that Grecian formula GOP hair.

I don't know what you boys are so worked up over. My mom taught me as a child that if someone was bugging you, you simply ignore them and 99% of the time they'll stop. So use the ignore feature of the board - it works great for me. If I want moronics and inanities, I'll turn on FOX.

All this jibber jabber about a gas tax vacation
blzrul replied to Adam's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
A couple of years ago the issue under discussion was not the supply of oil. It was the inability of the US refinery system to process it. That's not changed. If we suddenly found a mega fountain of oil in the desert somewhere, we'd probably export it because we couldn't convert it to gasoline anyway. And domestic gas prices would rise, again. Winner = big oil. Loser = John Q Public. -
Ex-Gitmo prisoner carries out suicide attack
blzrul replied to UConn James's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
It's not unusual for someone to enter a prison either as an innocent man/woman, or as a petty criminal, only to emerge a REAL criminal, and commit REAL criminal acts. What we're learning is that a number of these people at Gitmo who were held for years had absolutely NO ties to terror. I'd imagine if someone took me prisoner for no reason and held me for 5 years (leaving aside the question of torture), I would probably emerge hating them and wanting to exact a toll on them. I personally don't think I'd actually do anything, but you just never know. I don't know if that's the case with this guy. But I wouldn't bet MY life that Gitmo, or the threat of Gitmo, would dissuade anyone already leaning toward terrorism. Anyone who thinks that clearly is not understanding what creates and drives a terrorist. -
I cannot imagine the horrors John McCain suffered as a POW. I also saw the film where he was trapped in the cockpit as the deck was on fire. I will never argue that he has courage and clearly knows how to survive. I don't like his policies. That doesn't mean I don't respect his courage and dedication as a member of the armed forces. I have the same respect for Daniel Inoye, John Kerry, John Murtha as well as the countless, nameless men and women who have sacrificed so much. I might not want them for president but that does not diminish my respect for their service.

Hillary Advisor: Indianana are "Worthless White N*ggers"
blzrul replied to yall's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Actually it was the parties themselves. THEY wanted the national party to pay for it. The national party said to take a hike. MI and FL knew WELL in advance that they were violating policy and were told that their primaries wouldn't count. They went ahead anyway. Howard Dean has tried to mediate a fair outcome, to no avail. Clinton's claiming "victory" in illegal elections sounds so very Bush-like. Of course a GREAT deal about her sounds like him. Every day something else stupid and stubborn comes out of her mouth. She got her ass kicked in NC, and barely squeaked by in IN, and she essentially says "Mission Accomplished". I used to think she was Lieberman in a dress, now I'm thinking more like W .... smarter in many ways but all about winning at any price, no matter the cost. -

GOP: Putting the CON back into Conservative -
He wasn't effective when he was popular so it's no surprise he's unpopular now.
-
So since he's unpopular, he's effective? I guess if you are in the defense, oil, pharma or managed healthcare industry that would be true.
-
I thought Rummy has been perfectly clear in the past about the knowns, the unknowns, the known knowns and the unknown knowns not to mention the unknown unknowns. It's pretty clear he doesn't know much and probably never did.

Oooooo believe me, there are plenty of them. I read a letter to the editor recently (published clearly to allow the writer to make a fool of himself) stating that history will show Bush was one of the best EVER. And of course the "Silence of the Wingnuts" on this board should tell you something else. You know, they're the ones who dismiss anything negative that's said about the most incompetent administration in memory by claiming that the writer is prejudiced against said group of nincompoops. You'll know them because they invariably end their rants with "Bush Bad".
