  1. And if someone had merely posted that statement without statistical proof, wingnuts would have disputed it. It's really quite funny how desperate little people are to weasel out of admitting that electing this moron was a really really bad way to start out the new millenium.
  2. UH yeah actually I DO, and that question had been answered. While I am truly flattered that you skipped through the thread to jump to read MY post, perhaps you should have taken the time to take in the complete conversation.
  3. And if they HAD cut funding or seriously curtailed it people like you would wet your pants and scream YOU HATE AMERICA! YOU'RE NOT SUPPORTING OUR TROOPS! Nice try.
  4. And he is definitely on hostile territory here. There is an enclave of really rich folk in Medina, and he skedaddles there and back as quickly as possible. Our highway overpasses are typically lined with anti-war protesters daily anyway...you should see it when one of the warmongers comes to town. What was wild was how the LONGSHOREMEN shut down the docks yesterday to protest the war. Only in Seattle. That's why I live here!
  5. They've debated 21 times. Hillary is using the GOP tactic of fear and personal attacks, not Obama. Hillary is pandering. Hillary is lying. Hillary has proven that when it comes to politics women CAN be equal to me - because she is every bit as slimy and hypocritical as the rest of them. When I read Joe Conason's book "The Hunting of President" I thought "how awful the hateful things the Clintons were subjected to." Now I see her doing some of the same stuff. That makes her worse than them. I'm only surprised she doesn't have Karl Rove on her payroll.
  6. Yes the things Republicans SAY they want, and convince people they stand for....but of course their actions belie their words. Ron Paul is more of a Libertarian than a Repub.
  7. I wonder how much is costs when Bush travels with his 2-mile long motorcade?
  8. Hmm...couldn't shoot straight eh? hahahhaha
  9. Quelle surprise. What's that I hear, wingnut heads exploding? Note that his approval rating is not the lowest ever, but his disapproval rating is the highest. So ... he's finally proving out to be a "unificaterer" instead of a "divider-upper".
  10. yeh like my dad the "independent" who voted straight GOP his whole life
  11. that explains why mankind keeps doing the same stupid things over and over....can't learn from mistakes if you don't study them
  12. Yeah me too - I was a National Merit Scholar as well. You'd think the top 3% in the country would score a little better than $250. I guess that my school matched it, bringing the grand total to $500. Of course $500 wasn't chickenfeed in those days but still...I looked at the U of R and it was over $5k back THEN. My dad turned down a chance to teach at the UR Med School and I was PISSED because then I could have gone tuition free. Ah well, working my way thru school at night was a character builder.
  13. Lucky you, we are not allowed to deduct a dime for our kid's college. And even with medical expenses of $12k plus, same. Go figure. And we ain't rich, just comfortable.
  14. I'm surprised there was no comment on this today. Cadet Campbell was happy to sign an agreement to serve when he was accepted to Army (hint: we taxpayers cover that, right) but thanks to the Army's new policy he can play NFL football and fulfill his commitment by "recruiting" every Tuesday. In other words, get a free ride on the taxpayers, sign a fat contract, and use the resultant fame to recruit starry-eyed youngsters to sign up and do what HE won't do, even though he agreed to do it. Seems perfectly fair to me. It's not like the war wasn't going on when he started college... I wonder what Pat Tillman would think of this.... Of course, playing for the Lions won't be much of a picnic either, but I betcha more than half the soldiers in Iraq would, if given the chance, rather be doing that than what they're doing. (By the way, the words in quotation marks comprise the exact headline in the paper, for those untutored masses who read the topic title and simultaneously wet their pants AND started foaming at the mouth.)
  15. I have my own tickets and will sign up for the party only. As a club seat licensee I can buy tickets before they go on sale to the public, but only a few, and without choosing exact seats (general location / price only) on a first come, first served basis. So while I recommend folks without tickets go with Jack's deal, if you are a risk-taker PM me and I'll put you on my list. I think I can buy up to 6 but I won't be able to do so for at least another month. Maybe more....
  16. Club seat holders can buy tickets before they go on sale. What they do is send us an order form and you just submit the number of tickets, price level, and game. You don't really get to choose the seats, just the general location. I always thought they sent those forms out in spring but I think they're still going thru season ticket stuff so maybe they wait until that is done. I am willing to get tix for folks if you have a PayPal account and remind me via PM. There is a limit though, I think it is 6-8 per game. My husband and I are planning to fly in from Seattle for this game (cheer for the Bills of course).
  17. That makes more sense actually. Thanks.
  18. Actually I was well aware of that number. That's why I could even mention that there would be a possibility of the cases being reviewed. Even as horse's ass like you ought to recognize that "I don't know" is an answer. Because I don't. There is no one answer to the problem of what to do with them. I don't have a solution, but it doesn't mean I have to like what's happening. But again I forget I am dealing with a beady little wingnut mind that sees and thinks (if it DOES think) in black and white only, and very narrowly at that.
  19. I think it depends on the crime. There are quite a few felonies for which I think people should be eternally locked up. Crimes involving weapons. Child molestation. Rape. Murder. Etc. I think the three-strike laws are appropriate (although I think if a third strike is stealing a Snickers bar, that's a little extreme). But I would not go so far as to say EVERY felon should be locked up forever because some people do turn their lives around...and some people are wrongly convicted (probably more than we know). We have an awful lot of people in jail here in America, as a proportion of our population I think it's the highest in the world. So either we are a nation of criminals*, or maybe some of our laws need to be revisited. My beef with the military waivers is that we hold our military to a high standard, and they have a right to be proud of earning that right to wear the uniform. I take it as somewhat of a slap in their face that they're now having to serve with people who are convicted of crimes like manslaughter, etc. Right now the number of waivers is small, and I would love to believe that they were evaluated carefully on a case-by-case basis to assure these people are not a threat to their comrades. But I am not that naive. *If we ARE a nation of criminals then I guess it's only right that they serve.
  20. Check again. There are a 12-13 year olds who were tried as adults complete with cameras in the courtroom, their names and photos in the paper, etc. Perhaps it varies from state to state.
  21. I'll take them over McCain's rednecks and Hillary's geriatrics any day.
  22. Nice way to contradict yourself. You're actually right, juvenile records are ARE sealed...unless the juvenile was tried and convicted as an adult. Hence, they're NOT juvenile. You'd have to agree for the crime to be bad enough to try a child as an adult, it's a bad crime eh? In any event I would love to see your source that these are "juvi" convictions as opposed to adults. These are not kids, these are men who have in some cases committed aggravated assault, burglary, sexual assault and other crimes. Again, maybe the second chance is good for them. But if I were serving in Iraq I might be a little wary. And if I worked myself to the death to be one of the few, the proud - I'd be a little pissed that apparently the standards I was held to have been lowered.
  23. Trisha Nixon has endorsed Obama also. It's incredible the wide range of people to whom the man appeals. That's the definition of a "uniter".
