Dem's RBC makes deal with FL & MI
blzrul replied to In-A-Gadda-Levitre's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I think it's an interesting compromise, considering both states knew in advance that their delegates would not be seated. This lets them be seated but not have an impact. Reading this morning's paper and seeing the reactions of the Clinton people I have to say that Hillary is burning her bridges, big time. Her choice now is to wait until Tuesday and cede gracefully, then go back to the Senate and do some good, or take it to the wall and end up at the end of her Senatorial job home cooking and harping at Bubba over lost opportunities. -
Thereby proving out your low IQ. It's well documented and even Karl Rove admits that the more educated and intelligent people are, the more likely they are to vote Democrat. I posted that quote here years ago.

Another pastor disaster for Obama
blzrul replied to PastaJoe's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I used to work for a guy who was a rabid wingnut. I mean BAD. He would even put Rush Limbaugh newsletters in my mailbox. Yet, we had many other things in common and as long as we didn't get personal on the politics, we were fine. I'd go places with him and he'd start on gun laws and all that stuff...I just let him go. If people wanted to judge me based on my friendship with him, so what. I didn't disagree with him in front of people but respected his right to be himself and say what he thought. He knew how I felt and would sometimes temper his words, but if he didn't, so what. Yet I took orders from the man and we were even friends - still are. What that says about me is that there is room for all kinds of folks in my life, even those you'd think are polar opposites. I can usually find something good in someone to appreciate, which allows me to overlook the negative. Note I said "usually". There are some folks in whom I have yet to find a shred of decency...hard though I try. You know who you are. :-) So Obama knows people with little minds and big mouths. He's not responsible for them. -
When has Bush EVER admitted a mistake OR taken responsibility for a poor decision?

You crack me up. Most everyone in that administration "got their job because W likes Texas people with connections". A lot of them were recycled Bush I people who eventually had no stomach for W and left. Still, the administration as whole is incompetent so why would this guy be any different? Or is he only NOW incompetent because he's saying things the right doesn't like? He promised before he left that he'd write a tell-all book, and that's just what he did. There were probably tell-all books after Clinton left that of course, to people like you, could only have been gospel truth (assuming they said bad things about Bubba).

Scott McClellan is the son of Carol Keeton Strayhorn or Rylander depending on how you remember her. She is the "granny" who ran for TX gov against Gov. Goodhair. She is a conservative, as is Scott. Her campaign message was basically that the GOP has gotten far astray of party values, substituting social conservatism for fiscal conservatism and building big government as opposed to minimizing governmental intrusion. She was a Bushista when he was Guv - Treasurer or Comptroller, now I don't recall which. Had I still lived in TX I would have voted for the feisty ole granny. I am sure she is proud of her son. As press secretary his job was to perfume the pig, not to contribute to policy decisions. But, it would have been nice if he'd dug in when he thought something was wrong. Four thousand plus US soldiers and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis might have been spared. Frankly there is nothing in the book that most intelligent people hadn't already surmised. The only difference is it's coming from an insider.

Smartcars are great for city driving but I would never go on a highway in one. I first saw them in Europe years ago scooting around Barcelona and Geneva - makes perfect sense there, if you have to drive. And you can always find a parking place in a Smart. I saw one on the highway here in Seattle last week. It was doing fine at 60 mph, keeping up, but I'd still be nervous at high speeds, in any small car actually. I have a sportscar and it's fun to open it up on the highway but I'm always a little worried about getting flattened by a couple of semis.

Buncha cars here got poison gas over the weekend - Shell refinery in Bellingham had a "water problem" and didn't catch it. Poor slobs paid $4 a gallon and most of their cars never made it out of the drive from the gas station. The exception was a Subaru, which went a mile. Guess that's my next car....

Hillary pinning hopes on assassination!
blzrul replied to KD in CA's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I have a feeling that the red phone was rewired to ring at Uncle Dick's house. GW's stupidity and foot-in-mouth is far worse than Hillary's. I guess the difference is from him you expect it - she's arguably a whole lot smarter. But geez Louise she could have said ANY number of things to get her point across. I would have more respect for her if she had said "Hey - this is a free country and I don't have to justify anything to you people, I'm in until it's over. End of discussion". I know she's made some statements to that effect before but to bother to explain or justify it is stupid - it brings to mind "methinks thou dost protest too much" ... with apologies to the Bard. -

This story hurts to read, in a bittersweet way. The worst part of war is all the good people we lose. -
Hillary pinning hopes on assassination!
blzrul replied to KD in CA's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Stupid media. I thought the Rev Wright thing was stupid and so is this. Hillary put her foot in her mouth is all. It does tend to show that she's really clutching at straws to come up with excuses as to why she won't give up. She ought to take a page from Obama's book and stop trying to make excuses. She has a legal right to stay in the race to the bitter end. End of discussion. Granted - her words were clearly thoughtless, what with Teddy Kennedy facing death and many people worried that some skinhead will take a shot at Obama because of his skin color. So the question IS, do YOU want someone this thoughtless to answer the red phone at 3 am? -
I do think Hillary's suddenly-discovered concern for the voters in MI and FL is touching, don't you? I guess she's been preoccupied since she signed the agreement stating she'd abide by the rules back in December 07. Yawn. Just another politician. She needs to remember how she conducts herself in these waning days of the campaign will have a lasting effect on her career, whatever turn said career takes....

What's Your Opinion On The Texas FLDS?

It's Texas. There's a reason they moved there. -

By the reaction of the wingnuts when Clinton sent troops to Kosovo or wherever the freak it was, you'd have thought he was, um, actually invading a sovereign nation with the attempt to overthrow the legal government.... -
Word on the street is she's looking for an easy, face-saving exit, as I have said before. After running off at the gums about not quitting, she really can't or running again becomes problematic. The Obama campaign has expressed interest in working out some sort of solution to seat Florida delegates....the candidates will split them and there is virtually no way that Hillary can catch up anyway. Michigan is pretty much SOL because Obama didn't even has his name on the ballot and there's just no way to do it. I suppose you could check on the MI superdelegate alignment and split the delegates that way, but it's kinda of bass ackwards and I don't see that as a viable solution. Obama and Clinton and their historic fight to the finish are getting all the media attention, with little left over for McCain. No matter what you think of Obama, he's run a good campaign, far better than I think most people would have thought possible. How he'll run the next one has yet to be seen, but it could just happen that he is just as smart as he seems. Maybe all politicians suck, but after 8 years of a moron, smart would be a nice change.

Of course - a "revote" in order to insure integrity of the process and fairness to all had to meet those criteria. Given the time and logistics constraints it wasn't possible. Republicans could understand that of course because it was based on "time" that they forced the 2000 election decision. Apparently if the election wasn't certified by a certain date, the world was going to explode. Or something like that. Good thing it didn't happen (until 9/11). But that's a different thread.

Here's something else interesting about the "redneck races". Draw your own conclusions: "Even in a state Hillary Clinton appears to have won by 35 points, a majority of Kentucky voters say the New York senator attacked Barack Obama unfairly. According to the exit polls, 54 percent of voters said Clinton launched unfair attacks on Obama, though that didn't seem to deter voters there from supporting Clinton — 55 percent of those who said Clinton attacked unfairly still voted for the New York senator. Clinton faced a similar statistic in West Virginia last week. There she won by 41 points, but nearly 60 percent of voters said she made unfair attacks against the Illinois senator." (CNN) So does it mean that Clinton's people have enough of a conscience to recognize unfairness, but too little to care? Are they holding their nose and voting for the lesser of two evils? Are they rednecked bigots? Who knows. I don't think white people who vote for Hillary are bigots any more than I think that women who vote for Obama are turncoats. The media is really the only interested party to THAT insofar as they can stir up "news" about it.

Not sure what you're smoking but BOTH candidates agreed not to campaign in MI and FL BEFORE the primaries because it was made quite clear that the primaries were illegal and would not count. They signed an agreement. Saying so-and-so won isn't accurate. You have no way of knowing who didn't vote...the die-hards sure, but not the indepdents and undecideds. I wouldn't have bothered if I knew in advance my vote wouldn't count - unless I was a diehard who wanted to make a statement. If the DNC felt that there was a fair way of counting those results with any degree of comfort that they were accurate, it would have been done. All discussions went back to "revote". It was not Obama's people who blocked it. Howard Dean said "go for it" to the states but told the states THEY would have to pay for it, not the DNC. At that point the discussion fizzled away. The states didn't want to pony up the $10m it could have cost and they couldn't agree on an expeditious way to vote in time for the convention.

Hillary has every right to remain in the race. She is not hurting things. In fact this horse race has totally kept attention on the Dems and away from McCain. So it's all good. The fact that she wins in an election where the only choice is Dems in states that always go GOP really doesn't mean a lot. It is mildly interesting that a high percentage Obama voters in KY said they'd support Hillary if she was the nominee, but among Hillary supporters the greater preponderance said they'd not support Obama, either voting for McCain or not voting. So in one capacity or another Hillary is going to have to made good on her boast that she can deliver these voters for the party.

My vehicle is clearly marked "DON'T BLAME ME, MY VOTE DIDN'T COUNT". But yes, you are right. And since wingnuts hate and fear Muslims because of a handful of loonies who interpret a holy book narrow-mindedly and turn its words against us, I don't know why the wingnuts ought to be surprised that the world hates and fears us because of our thoughtless, reckless and arrogant foreign policies. No-one likes a bully.

Dumb !@#$ing idiot soldier decides to use a Quran as a target during shooting practice. Yes, making friends and influencing people (in case you didn't already hate us and want to kill us, here's an excuse). Story And then of course the military had to kiss up to the village with abject apologies and a new Quran. It's the right thing to do, but over there it's a total loss of face...so not only are we bullies and heathen, but weak as well (from the perspective of the Iraqis). If a Muslim over here opened up on a Bible most of you wingnuts would be tying nooses for him. So much as you like to disagree with everything I say, defending this is really futile. There's no excuse.

Ted Kennedy airlifted to hospital

I suppose getting shot down and killed serving your country in WWII doesn't count? -
My point was that sitting there saying "oh surely if there was a problem we'd know about it" is moronic.
