  1. Oh sorry I was speaking to you in !@#$, which I thought was your native language.
  2. No. But it's news to me that MIGHT = SHOULD.
  3. It may be that he really doesn't love football as much as the money he gets for playing. My brother was a big star in school and was scouted by the Browns and invited to combine as a running back...he opted not to go because the more he thought about it, his heart was not really in it. He realized that even though he was a gifted player and stood a good chance of success from an athletic standpoint, it takes more than that. Thirty years later he says he sometimes wonders what would have happened had he followed up with the NFL, but he doesn't regret it.
  4. Don't forget Dave Krieg, league-leading fumbler!
  5. This was in our paper this morning and I thought it was good. The best way to stop it is for the stupid media to ignore it. You read the headlines and thing OMIGOD then looking at the article, it's a lot of hooey. I'd like to see headlines on the ISSUES. Instead they do polls on whether people vote for people, or issues, and seem surprised that "issues" is not selected. This election, as all others, is about issues and values. The problem is that most people don't take the time to really understand those. They are either blindly allied to a party or they follow the sound bites without taking time to explore. And that's how we end up with poor leadership and irresponsible government.
  6. “Make no mistake about this, Hillary Clinton is as qualified or more qualified than I am to be vice president of the United States of America. Let’s get that straight,” Biden said testily when a voter told Biden he was glad the Delaware senator had been chosen and not Clinton. Show me where he says "SHE SHOULD HAVE BEEN PICKED".
  7. That's not what he said. Nice try though.
  8. As probably the only member of this board to have both Bills and Seahawks season tickets: I THOROUGHLY enjoyed the game on Sunday. Naturally cheering for the Bills - they are my team. The Seahawks thing is really because I love football and going to NFL games ... although I naturally cheer for the home team when I am there. There was of course a lot of whining in the papers here (my daughter saved them for us, we just got back yesterday). But, to be fair: Seattle is nowhere near the sports town that Buffalo is. I know that Mondays after losses in WNY are totally depressing. Here in Seattle we sort of shrug, roll our eyes and go for coffee. So the whining was pretty mild. They still haven't gotten over being "robbed" of the Super Bowl though. They're convinced the loss had everything to do with officiating and nothing to do with the fact that their receivers can't catch. But what I wanted to say, with great glee, is that one of the local writers' comments. Basically what he said was that the Hawks will not get another chance to prove that they are Super Bowl contenders for a few more weeks (they have cupcake teams until then). The writer THEN stated that until and unless the Seahawks can meet that challenge, then there "was only ONE Super Bowl contender on the field on Sunday - the Bills." Boy it's been a long time since I heard THAT. I like the sound of it though! I am wearing my new Roscoe Parrish jersey to the Seahawks opener this Sunday.
  9. Who ever would have thought a sport like hockey was elitist. I never did, but I've learned. Chalk one up for Sarah Palin - I owe her a debt of gratitude because without her I'd just have thought you plunk down $150 for some skates and a stick and then pound the sh-- of each other on the Erie Canal in January.
  10. Well that's pretty much it. That and perhaps she's a crack shot mowing down wolves from helicopters. Consider this: THEY are feeding this sh-- to the voters. THEY are campaigning on "Sarah Barracuda". THEY are claiming she's fit to be President because of her "family values" which include not having an abortion, not making her daughter have an abortion, going to church, and towing the party line. That's it. Why is it that we hear of other governors who do good and interesting things ... but no-one EVER heard of her? I'll tell you why: There's nothing there. And THUS the Party of Rove has a perfect chance to CREATE her. Which is exactly what they are doing. She is a figment of their imagination.
  11. It's an expression, and an apt one. He could have said "window-dressing" and someone would have a fit over that as well. He's absolutely right in calling out McCain on this - it's pretty clear McCain has nothing to say about the issues and is going to campaign on bull sh-- like "he said/she said" and "I know I am but what are you" - playground crap. I would rather hear about the issues myself.
  12. My colleague, whose father was an NHL player and owns a number of rinks (she was a figure skater) just explained to me what it means to play hockey in these kids' leagues up in the great white north. It is NOT cheap. So it's not available to everyone - mostly just the "haves". Oh and they're Canadian by the way, they don't give a rip about US politics. They were just commenting to me that making the claim "hockey mom" doesn't mean exactly what it implies. It's actually somewhat of a boast in terms of "I got the bucks to do it" from their perspective. I personally wouldn't know. I don't like hockey.
  13. But the objectionable part is that Palin's staffers pulled his record and reviewed it, which is NOT supposed to happen. Otherwise they wouldn't have known what was in his file. People get fired or forced out of governmental agencies for looking up celeb records etc. Granted I would like to know if there's a bad cop out there but...you know, due process, right to privacy etc. Cops have rights too.
  14. At the risk of stating the obvious, Clinton supporters DIDN'T make it an issue. Wingnuts did. These are the same people who preach that abstinence is the only acceptable birth control and that only dirty lowlifes have extra-marital sex and get pregnant...unless of course it's one of their own and THEN it's God-given miracle worthy of canonization.
  15. Maybe - but I wasn't living here then, I would have been in Dallas listening to all the Cowboy hype. Ugh.
  16. Seneca does play receiver occasionally now. I don't know that the Walrus is that confident Matt's back will hold up; Charlie Frye is a competent backup but I don't know that they are 100% sure he can carry the load to the extent that they'd risk Seneca a lot at WR.
  17. Rocky Bernard and Jordan Babineaux are also suspended for this game. It's a big loss for the Hawks.
  18. Then perhaps the insider who gave Woodward the information should have kept his or her mouth shut. I don't think anyone would be surprised that a government who spies on its own people would also spy on it's "allies", do you?
  19. Living in Seattle and having season tickets for both Seattle and Buffalo, I will pick Buffalo by 3. The Seahawks look good because they are in a really really crappy division. They seem to lack that killer spirit and more than once recently have demonstrated they can't focus. Perhaps the wild card is that this is the Walrus' last year before Mora takes over as head coach ... maybe the team will rally to win one for the Walrus before he retires. Other observations: In the local papers the only "Bills/Hawks" history you'll see mentioned is the last time the Seawaks won. They never talk about the drubbing in 2004 or the 42-0 Flutie shutout at Husky Stadium. Seattle really is a wimpy sports city - no chest thumping here. Maybe on the other side of the mountains. But here, there will be no locker-room bulletin board fodder for Buffalo. The Seahawks kicking game is not great. They've got some good guys who can break away on return, but their coverage is lousy. For kicking, Orlindo Mare seems to be back on track. Punting? So-so. Their receivers don't often actually catch. Hasselbeck has a sore back. Seneca Wallace is a capable backup, but they'd really rather have him as a receiver and let Frye play. Frye needs an entire game to warm up...once he does though he's not bad. So - if Hasselbeck can't start, or can't finish, it's not a gimme. Couple of key guys are suspended for the game. If the Bills can't block Lofa Tatupu, Trent is toast.
  20. This has nothing to do with hatred. It has to do with each individual's perceptions and feelings. I stand firm that any individual who feels like he/she is a victim is going to feel anger, hatred and a desire for retribution that they may act upon, and which may color their dealings with others in the future. And in that respect it really does not matter whether they suffered for five years, or five minutes - to that particular individual. You ought to consider walking around in someone else's shoes for awhile. I understand why McCain hates his captors, but they were a relative handful of people, many of whom may be dead. So his insistence upon continually using the term "gook" which denigrates an entire populace is really inappropriate. If a person is unfairly treated by a police officer (rare, but it happens) decides to always call police "pigs" ... same thing. It's all very situational but it does no good to demonize large groups of homogenous people because of a bad experience. It must be nice that you and your wife are genuises by the way, far above the fray unlike the rest of us. You enjoy that now, according to you there aren't many of you.
  21. I think it's quite good of W to bookend his administration with twin recessions. Rounds things out nicely. That's good, I like the symmetry.
  22. The Navy announced that military policy was violated in calling attention to the active-duty military personnel at the convention. It's apparently a well-known and strict policy - the men had permission to be there in civvies but were not supposed to be used as props. I guess McBomb and the head of the Alaska NatGard are not aware of this policy for all they are such big military people? Hmmmm? I did also enjoy the "Prosperity" card. I guess they had to use those because to have printed "6.1% unemployment rate / Record-setting foreclosures / Dow down 3000 pts in a year / etc" would not fit.
  23. His apostles were mostly fisherman. But Jesus was a fisher of men. And most definitely a liberal.
  24. Ahhh that sage Calvin Coolidge. By anyone's definition not just the man on the century, but the man of the Millenium!
  25. Whoever said O'Reilly was a professional journalist?
