  1. My daughter hosted a debate-watching party in her dorm. About 40 minutes in she texted me "SHE SAYS "NUCLEAR" LIKE GWB! WE'RE GONNA PUKE". She did about as expected. I've been through politican campaign strategy training and it's all about "staying on message". That's what she did. You just have to wonder whether she actually UNDERSTANDS and could ARTICULATE the message. Yeh right.
  2. That was proposed for the first bailout bill. I believe the proposal came from (ahem) the Bushista camp. Note that the judiciary is incompetent - to them - in all things except for when it suits them. Note I did not say it was PART of the bill. But it was somewhere on the shortlist that was proposed. It sounds good in theory, for little people who are afraid when the government owns their mortgage note, they're REALLy !@#$ed. But of course who knows, the GOP could end up shipping the notes off to China or someplace or pledging them as collateral against Iran's disarmament
  3. McCain can't go after much - someone will start with the Keating 5 and take it from there. McCain's continued insistence upon being nasty is pissing people off. He's not the most magnetic personality anyway, he looks like a blancmanger, he's got a whiny voice and his VP is an irritating lightweight. People figure a guy like McCain, for all he's a war hero, should have SOMETHING good he can tout for 25+ years in government. But, apparently he does not - at leas that's the impression his campaign is giving by refusing to address the issues,.
  4. I cried each time I saw the ad (with Talley)...of COURSE I will Tivo and watch. It says something that I can bear THIS painful program rather than watch the VP debate. But, that's for PPP....
  5. McCain's pretty confident that the voting machines in FL and OH will take care of him.
  6. A few years ago I was having my nails done in a salon by a gal from Vietnam. She was trying to study for her citizenship test. She told me she'd failed the written portion three times and was going to take it orally. I reviewed document she'd been given to study and my reaction THEN was that most adult Americans would probably have difficulty answering quite a few of those questions.
  7. I am NOT calling that rich. And, I make more than that and do not consider myself rich. But I would NEVER consider myself a Joe Six Pack - I am upper middle class. Joe Sixpacks are the folks in the true middle. My original statement had to do with the "out of touch" thing. She's either full of CRAP that she lost $20k this week alone...or she lost 20K because she was invested VERY badly OR she has a whole lot in her account (so $20k would be a drop in the bucket). I have six figures in my retirement and didn't lose $20k and I am no Warren Buffett....
  8. OH if you insist... It had been on the CNN Political Ticker but scrolled off. You can read it and see that Josephine Six Pack makes $125k, her husband $90k, plus all those great public servant bene's and perks. Yup, just another middle-class American.
  9. HA! I worked there...don't get me started.
  10. You know I betcha Biden wears dentures. And, I also hear he kidnaps, cooks and devours the children of Seventh-Day Adventists. In addition, he has a swastika tatooed on his right butt cheek AND he refused to donate to the Boy Scouts.
  11. Actually I do. But to have lost $20k in the past couple of weeks you either have to have a REALLY BADLY INVESTED portfolio, or you have a lot of money. I've lost well over $20k from my 401k but not in a short time period - I am not invested in any financial stocks and my bond holdings stabilize my investments, a little anyway. But we're not talking about me. I am not a "Joe Six Pack". I am a white-collar worker who is fortunate to make a very good wage. My brother is a Joe Six Pack. He drives a 1992 Ford F150 and lives in a double-wide. Losing $20k would be a big hit for him...if he had it to lose in the first place.
  12. Palin's latest: she's a "Joe Sixpack" just like everyone else in America, and to demonstrate it she's lost $20k in her 401k during this past crisis. Maybe it's in one of McCain's houses or cars? Someone will ask for the linky - I'm too lazy. It's on the CNN Politics page.
  13. I am sure that both sides have already seen the questions and she's been in Sedona memorizing the stock answers that are heavy on God, moose, family, drilling, and something sarcastic.
  14. McCain is probably THRILLED that the bailout failed and the House reconvenes Thursday. That guarantees focus will be on that instead of the debate. On the other hand, Americans are smarting from all this and an inept performance from ole Sarah on Thursday could just about shoot McCain in his OTHER foot (the one that got shot when he suspended his campaign to show the great leadership that ended in....failure,
  15. Lydon LeRouche? Or is it LaRouche? That would explain a few things...
  16. Reagan said trees emit more carbon monoxide than cars - it didn't hurt his election chances. Fact is there are many Americans who are stupid and ignorant and probably saw the move 1,000,000 BC or whatever it was, and believed it. The fact that GWBush got not one, but two, terms is testimony to the general stupidity that seems boundless in this country.
  17. You cannot defend the indefensible my friend. Why not admit it? I guess every country needs a LePen front and center....
  18. Truth hurts. Heard an interview with a WSJ analyst this morning on the radio. Quite interesting...she explained quite clearly the fundamental issues and potential impacts if nothing is done. No scare-mongering, just basically the facts. And the facts is for those who are already living on the edge, it's gonna get much harder, and for the rest of us it will be irritating and somewhat inconvenient but over the long haul we'll recover. She discussed economics only, not politics or policy. At the end, the interviewere asked her whether she'd have voted for the bill. She tried to dodge the question saying "well the bill failed and it won't be offered in its current form for a vote, so it doesn't matter" but when pressed she stated that she would not have voted for the bill as it was written.
  19. Interesting - was there a poison pill in there? Because my Congressman indicated he would vote for the bill...but he didn't.
  20. I've been trying to connect to various Congressional Reps' web sites to see what I can learn but they all time out. Guess I am not the only one interested! I did let my rep know that if he voted for a bill that did not contain a top stop on the $$, some serious protections for John Q Public and guards against golden parachutes, he'd be on my shirtlist...I imagine most of them heard the same. In looking at this - the market dropped 777 pts. Congress is SO worried about it that they're taking two days off before tackling it again on Thursday. So let's see what the uncertainty does. All I know is, if that asswipe Bush decides he needs to address the country again (more fear mongering) tonight and he does it during Monday Night Football, he will RUE the day he was born. As an aside - I never thought I'd see the day when I agreed with anything Jeb Hensarling said. Or anyone named "Jeb" for that matter....
  21. What with Nordstrom's flagship store 20 minutes away?
  22. Economy in a nutshell: perception and the resultant fear, or optimism ... is what drives the markets. Every so often though a dose of reality comes along and the ride gets rough.
  23. Here's a new, improved Palin even I could vote for.
  24. The Bills are 4-0. That's all the numbers I care about today...
