  1. It could, but any individual who really and truly thinks government will return any largesse to the taxpayer is a nitwit. We gots us a war, social security and all kinds of other sh-- to pay for.
  2. It is interesting that Obama reached out first to McCain to discuss the issue and try to agree on a joint statement (in areas where they agreed). McCain's reaction is the theatrical "I wills suspend my campaign" yadda yadda. Obama's reaction: Unless you're struggling with "My Pet Goat" as Prseident you may have to deal with a crisis while something else is going on. By the way, can anyone tell me what we ended up with LAST TIME Congress had a big emergency and rushed through legislation to address it? Yup. The Patriot Act. I don't know who's going to debate Obama Friday night but so far it's going ahead. I guess he'll get a prime time town hall style Q&A all to himself.
  3. That there is a basic inability to distinguish facts from wishful thinking... This just in: McCain admits that the economy may NOT be strong. Take that to the bank (if it's still open).
  4. Watching some of the testimony now ... some pretty harsh statements about the degulation and the fact that these institutions were left alone with no oversight to "do the right thing". What were they thinking? Never mind. Then Bernake gets up and says "well I am an anthropology major with no Wall Street experience BUT...". Good lord. It floors me that this stupid government made SUCH a point of making it difficult for John Q. Public to file for bankruptcty, while enabling giant, bumbling and dishonest corporations to do so. There has to be something, or the bottom will fall out. But I want BLOOD - those companies have to pay dearly or it will happen all over again.
  5. OK you are right. Phil Gramm was a Democrat before he was a Republican.
  6. Christopher Hitchens? You're asking people to believe Christopher Hitchens? I will take every word he says as gospel if you agree to do the same for...Oh, James Carville maybe? Duh,
  7. So Ann Coulter has a counterpart eh. I wonder how come no-one's grousing about the hateful garbage SHE spouts. It's all bad.
  8. Only if you make over $250,000.
  9. Whatever this person's political persuasion it's a pretty disgusting statement. Unfortunately that's what politics has disintegrated into. Name-calling and outright viciousness. I do, though, have yet to see any reports of Democrats raising money for their party with offensive materials about the opposition though - such as $3 bills with anti-Muslim slogans depicting the candidate as a terrorist, or boxes of waffle mix with him as "Aunt Jemima". Swift-boating, whisper campaigns etc - these are things that the GOP initiated and excel at. Every now and then someone on the other side is going to fly off the handle because they're sick of it. I don't like it but I can certainly understand it. Sarah Palin is a liar, and a law-breaker. But no-one deserves to be gang-raped.
  10. hhahahahahahahahaha this is RICH. Riding a wave of populist support...like the Hockey Mom and the POW? You know, the self-styled "original Mavericks"? check Promising better times for the masses? Check Demonizing the opposition? Check Grassroots organizations stifling free speech? Check and DOUBLE check, this was perfected by the GOP. I will never understand how people can actually vote for a ticket where one candidate is in lockstep with lobbyists and has an abused his position (Keating 5 anyone) and the other is currently under investigation for abuse of power.
  11. PJ - Bush NEVER claimed to speak Spanish. He claimed to speak MEXICAN.
  12. This will make it very hard to do any gloating when we beat their team. It is also a good example for us to follow. I can't believe it's actually a Jets board.
  13. If they sent you the wrong size it's their mistake, why won't they take it back? You should be able to get it altered at a decent tailor - the side panels are seamed, arent' they? If so then the tailor can undo the seams and take out some of the colored insert fabric, and shorten it as well
  14. He looks like Howdy Doody without the freckles.
  15. I would have loved to see Hagel as Obama's running mate. Of course then he'd be charged with pandering like McCain...the difference being Hagel is actually qualified. I would expect to see Hagel in a key role in an Obama administration, if he wanted it.
  16. Speaking of Socialism: who can tell me the political persuasion of that PATRIOTIC AMERICAN who penned the Pledge of Allegience? [wingnut heads exploding].
  17. From CNN Political Producer Peter Hamby Sarah Palin says she will bring the same kind of transparency she brought to Alaska to Washington, D.C.. CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (CNN) – Sarah Palin likes to tell voters around the country about how she “put the government checkbook online” in Alaska. On Thursday, Palin suggested she would take that same proposal to Washington. “We’re going to do a few new things also,” she said at a rally in Cedar Rapids. “For instance, as Alaska’s governor, I put the government’s checkbook online so that people can see where their money’s going. We’ll bring that kind of transparency, that responsibility, and accountability back. We’re going to bring that back to D.C.” There’s just one problem with proposing to put the federal checkbook online – somebody’s already done it. His name is Barack Obama. In 2006 and 2007, Obama teamed up with Republican Sen. Tom Coburn to pass the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act, also known as “Google for Government.” The act created a free, searchable web site – USASpending.gov — that discloses to the public all federal grants, contracts, loans and insurance payments."
  18. He's never made a secret of using it. At least he can, which is more than one can say for the current resident of the Oval Office. McCain and Palin use them too.
  19. Ah so you think George H.W. Bush and his Thousand Points of Light program is bullshirt eh? The Peace Corps also sucks. Ditto volunteer firefighters, EMTs, Red Cross. And the volunteer army....hmm. Not surprising.
  20. I think we need to cut back spending and ending that silly war in Iraq - plus recouping what we can from the country who was supposed to pay for their own invasion, as promised - would be a good start.
  21. Hey, God is on their side, that's why. Just ask them.
  22. So why suddenly is someone who you would have labeled a "libitard loser" during the Democratic primary suddenly CREDIBLE? Ah. When she agrees with YOU. Silly me. By the way wouldn't wingnuts call this FLIP FLOPPING? Give me a freaking break. She's allowed to change her mind, and voice her opinion. I don't see the polls changing much. Nothing to see here folks.
  23. Are we once again citing the Opinion page as facts?
  24. That's why it's so hysterial seeing Carly Fiorina stumping for McCain, who's telling everyone he's gonna fix those crummy golden-parachuters....She herself got a huge chunk of change when she got the boot from HP, after mucking it up there bigtime.
  25. I am not sure who hacked this but ... when you use Yahoo.com for email you have to know it could be hacked. She's surely not the only one who's ever been hacked. Just maybe the highest profile, to date. What is apparently the political issue is that the personal email account was used for state business. This is a no-no, for security / privacy reasons if nothing else. My company requires that all business be conducted on our network, behind our firewall, in order to protect our data as well as for legal/documentation purposes (of course email's backed up). I believe most state and local governments adhere to the same rules.
