  1. Kinda like how John Edwards skated by for a couple of years? Consider he's a lot more visible than the mayor of Wasilla (pop 7-9k depending on who you talk to), anything's possible. Sarah Palin is also under investigation in her own state ... so either they knew it, and in their typical style chose to ignore it, whatever. Now they can play the injured party and accuse the opposition of picking on a child. Never underestimate the arrogance of the Repigs I personally don't believe it, yet, but it is somewhat amusing. These people circulate $3 bills with Obama in Muslim headdress...let them have a taste of their own viciousness.
  2. Alaska is a big socialist/welfare state. You know, where all the citizens get a government handout for oil. (whisper, whisper, pass it on).
  3. Assuming that we are in the fix we are in because there is a society of "great unwashed" in this country who WON'T work is living proof that there's a fool born every second (if it fits, Nation, wear it). Why don't you come right out and say it: "welfare queens"? "illegal aliens"? Oh sure they get the attention...people SCREAM about paying for breakfasts for children who didn't ask to be born. They freak out when they read some poor Mexican took time out from working his $4.00/hour backbreaking job to get hit by a car, and WE the taxpayers have to actually put our MONEY where our mouths are, and behave like the Christians we claim to be and give the guy medical treatment. The Repigs have you people fooled. It just cracks me up that they take advantage of the fear and ignorance of America and then turn around and SCREW the very people who elected them. I guess that's what they deserve.
  4. And sure enough the McSame "acceptance" speech is/was scheduled for Thursday. What moron allows that to happen? I guess the Repigs will now accuse the NFL of being evildoers for scheduling a season opener with the 2007 World Champions the same night McSame finally tells us how many houses he owns ...
  5. So let's hear about all those good, God-fearing Midwesterners who get slammed along the Missouri / Mississippi Rivers every few years? Granted a few towns have moved, but people continue to rebuild in the flood plain. They get aid, and sympathy. Why should they be treated any better? What's so much better about people from, say, Kansas, than people from Louisiana?
  6. The point is: a) This deal is enabled by the US. I guess the dead soldiers would be THRILLED that they died so Iraq could sell to China. I bet they'll all be thrilled when Iraq sells to, oh maybe Cuba perhaps (wingnuts sh-- their pants over Cuba for some reason, hence I use it as an example). b) Your boy Bush tried to soften the idea of "war" by claiming that the Iraqi profits would help pay us back for that and the reconstruction. I'm still waiting. Since Iraq is now recovered to the point where they can make these deals, it's time to set a payback schedule. Maybe tie it to our withdrawal schedule. Yeah - pay us, and we'll get the !@#$ out of your country. The American people are subsidizing Iraq's ability to sell to our, if not "enemies", our "watchlist". That's what I have a problem with. The Bushistas are great at sabre-rattling - even a token "HEY you owe us some $$$" would be appropriate. But of course that's the hallmark of bullies - they back off pretty fast when called. And of course somewhere in there is obscene profit for some oil companies who are, after all, in the White House and running (ruining) the country.
  7. Bush actually called the governors on the Gulf Coast a couple of days ago to notify them that a hurrican' was a-comin' and his crack Administration was standing by to help. All that proves is that even mental midgets can learn. If you watch the special Gustav Channel (it's on DirecTV, which I am sure all those folks making $6/hour down there get right) you will see that the local agencies are bearing the brunt of evacuation. Obviously that's what they're there for, but it costs a lot of money. We'll see after it's all over if there's any relief from the Feds.
  8. How dare you try to be rational on this board? You got some nerve pal. You're talking to people who still cannot learn that "Michael" is spelled M-I-C-H-A-E-L after all. I think you learn that in the 3rd or 4th grade, so perhaps that explains the main problem we're having here. It's not so much a problem with reading out of context...it's basic reading skills, period.
  9. She's Charlton Heston in a better-looking package.
  10. So thanks to the blood, sweat and tears of American soldiers and their families, not to mention everyone's tax dollars, Iraq can sign a nice, fat juicy contract with China. Yes, THAT China, the one that we should probably be watching carefully. Yup. It's not that I want the oil - I think that finding / buying more oil is like enabling an alcoholic - but I have to admit is really pisses me off that the Repigs have spent all this money since 2003, thousands of dead and maimed young people, Iraq has an $80b surplus plus now $3b in revenue from China. Doesn't seem right to me. But by all means vote Repig in 2008 just to watch with horrid fascination just how bad it can get.
  11. I wonder how far they have to drive around that bridge that fell into the Mississippi? It would seem to me that they wouldn't want to call attention to the failing infrastructure of our country's transportation system (while we spend the $$ on war) by being anywhere near something like that. I'm only surprised they didn't have the chutzpah to have it in New Orleans. Fact is given Gustav, I sorta wish they had. It would be FUNNY to see those fat ole white boys standing on rooftops screaming for help. Oh yes, it would.
  12. My husband was a big Browne man. We were in Monserrat after the election and ran into a guy with a Harry Browne shirt. What are the odds. Speaking of Barr the nutjob, I wonder how he stacks up against Sarah Palin?
  13. Hmm because they focused on guys who might actually be qualified? She was on the short list...it was no secret. Maybe they figured McCain surely not would be so arrogant (or stupid) to choose someone who is currently under investigation in her own state for questionable hiring/firing and tampering with government employees? Of course in the great state of Alaska, this is a small crime compared to all the rest of the corruption there. Meaning no disrespect to your wife, but for which channel is she a political analyst? I must have missed her.
  14. We cracked up at the last Repig convention where the trotted out all the African-Americans on stage...but when you looked in the audience you could see nary a one. They do take pandering to new heights. Does this convention culminate Thursday, like the Dems? They're doomed if so, Thursday is NFL season opener. Who the hell is gonna watch Puddin-face McCain when you can watch ... I think Wash v Giants...?
  15. The record setting deficits we've experienced since the 1980's are courtesy of the GOP, wingnut. We're still here. Eventually someone has to pay the piper. The difference between the Repigs and the Dems is that the Repigs want the middle class to shoulder the debt, and stay in debt forever, while they and their corporate bigwig buddies live high on the hog. The Dems have the "misguided" notion that those who benefit the most (which is NOT the middle class but the corporations who are reaping the benefit of all this government spending) should shoulder their fair share of the burden. So the Repigs and neocon nutjobs take advantage of morons to keep them on this road screaming "They Want to Take Your Guns! They Want Homos to Marry! " etc. And you fall for it - they victimize the very people who put them in power and keep them there, knowing that appealing to COWARDICE works. "Live free or die". "Don't Tread on Me." Whatever happened to that? Moron.
  16. Yeh but you know what? They are a minority. LOUD, but still a minority. What the GOP has been able to do the last few elections is scare the crap out of everyman and count on their Christian zombie base to turn out. If normal, rational and reasonable people realize that there's more to leadership than the ability to survive 6 years in a hole or pump out babies, then there really isn't a choice this fall. Big "IF".
  17. As a woman I am insulted. I didn't support Hillary and although my mom had five children etc etc yak yak I am not blindly going to vote for McCain because he has selected a female running mate. Anything that's good about her is NOT enough to cancel out McCain. She is a very attractive woman though, and I am sure the rednecks might like her. Regarding the hardened evangelicals? They're going to be suspicious because instead of stayin home with those babies she's wearing the britches in the fambly. One thing is for sure, Alaska will end up looking like West Texas if she and McCain get in, what with all the drillin and all. McCain's risking it all that American's don't bother to scratch the surface and look for the substance. And given that George W. Bush served two terms, he could well be right.
  18. More than George Bush
  19. Hutchinson would have been a GREAT choice. She's been known to hit her staffers. I'd love to see her and McCain whacking each other with their walkers.
  20. My father was an anti-Catholic but he sent my step-brother to a Catholic school in Rochester so he could get the "best" education. Years later he was busted for domestic violence...against a child. I don't blame the Catholics for that, I blame the parents.
  21. No-one's disputing his service but spending six years in a hole does not make him qualified to be President. On the other hand, spending 22 years with the bottle doesn't either. But when the guy who served his country honorably kowtows to the drunk who thinks Putin has a soul, believes that life is back to normal in New Orleans and really believes that smart people fell for his Saddam = 9/11 bull sh--, well, you REALLY have to wonder if the former is any better qualified to lead than the latter. Later.
  22. I have tons of fun with EMEA, AJP and LA. Wherever there's government, you're doomed. Unfortunately there really isn't any human society that has been able to survive without some sort of government. Whether it's a tribal leader, a head villager, whatever - someone's in charge. And we got the village idiot...for 145 more days.
  23. I would imagine the real question has to be do you want to LIVE to be 50. Next questions: what kind of physical condition would you like to be? Armless or legless with PSTD? Or crippled over with arthritis and whatnot from picking lettuce for $50 an hour and blowing all your money on beer, cigarettes and Lotto?
  24. Oh yeah that's right, like the Bush twins helped the economy in the early 2000's by trying to consume excess, unsold alcohol.
  25. What difference does it make - the cost of healthcare insurance plus out of pocket in the US is much MORE than he pays in Italian taxes. In other words, he actually GETS something for the taxes he pays.
