The case for the wmd's preemptive iraq war
blzrul replied to cromagnum's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Since the insurgency didn't exist until the U.S. invaded, I don't think it would take a rocket scientist to issue a scathing review of the ill-advised, irresponsible and downright dumbass policy that caused its creation..... -
What do you think of borders?
blzrul replied to RuntheDamnBall's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
My ancestors got off a boat in 1658 onto other peoples' land and have hung out there ever since. Do you have an issue with that (other than that it was MY ancestors)? Perhaps yours were still living in caves at that time.... -
What do you think of borders?

My yard is fenced to keep my dog from trespassing on my neighbors' property and peeing on their shrubs. I am a good neighbor. If an evildoer wants to open my gate, there's no lock. And there are plenty of evildoers around here. Read the paper and see the kind of crimes that take place in "safe" areas. A fence means nothing to someone who's determined. I live in the home of the brave, not Chickenland where we're afraid to stand up, fight and die for our freedom. Building fences won't stop them. Mending fences might. By the way, we are about to host Tent City in our town again. That's a moving encampment of homeless folks. Would I take one into my house? Probably not, any more than I'd take any stranger unless it was on word of a mutual friend, but I will certainly welcome them back and not be afraid of them. And there still won't be a lock on my fence. By the way my mom got public assistance for awhile when she was left with 5 kids and no job, or appreciable job skills. I've known times of want when I had nothing but a can of peaches in my pantry. I've worked hard and enjoy the benefits of my hard work. The difference between me and many like me is that I know there's a fine line between "us" and "them" and I learned that sharing is a blessed thing... -

Borders are like religion: something man dreamed up to make himself feel safe and superior. -
Keith Olbermann forced to apologize!

You drive a PRIUS? Those cars got the ugliest butt I have ever seen in my life...on a car that is. What were you thinking?! -
My husband found him and matched the teams and times. You can sure tell he was/is an athlete, he hasn't gone to fat. He was probably second string is all. He only lasted in Dallas a year or so then went to the Raiders and Bears (according to what my husband found) and he still lives in Chicago.

I'm out of town at a conference and he's working the booth next to me. Sorry to say I don't remember him, he only played a few years. Nice guy.

hmmm I thought the amputated limb was buried somewhere not far from bin Laden's dialysis machine? Was I MISLED?!

Yes, I do think it's tacky. And I think Paul would think it's tacky too. He did his thing quietly without chest-thumping...well maybe some but I could just stick in a [figurative] pin and let out some of the hot air if need be. He knew he had friends who cared. In fact I now think it's a bad idea and we should just all donate to a charity which will then send a "thank you" letter that we can scan and look at to make us feel better. Because it seems like that's what people want. I didn't feel the need to "sign" my son's paver NOR his headstone. I was honoring HIM, not ME. And when I enter the Ralph, there he is just to the left and a little south of the Buffalo (look for the boy from Flower Mound, TX) and I can stop and yell at him a little for leaving too soon. I don't care that the other people don't know who he was. I did, and that's enough.
-
Well in that respect it would seem like he's presidential material.

Good lord, what a firestorm. Since it was my idea a few thoughts: 1) The lettering is LIMITED on the 500 paver. There's a Bills logo carved into the stone which is actually the "centerpiece" in that your eye is immediately drawn there. 2) I suggest SIMPLICITY, something like In Loving Memory Paul & Darlene Lewcyzk 2006 3) I think a "TBD" advert is tacky. This isn't for TBD. If you read most of those pavers I'd be VERY surprised if there are any "From" notations on them. Space is precious and the idea is to honor the memory of someone, not an organization he belonged to.

As Hurricane Season Looms, States Aim to Scare
blzrul replied to /dev/null's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Just got back from a conference where a senior VP from a major US global corporation (Fortune consumer packaged goods) spoke about Katrina and his company's response. It was heartening, in a way, to hear him advocate to his follow executives to develop post-hurricane support plans such as his company used, stating that with the inability to rely on FEMA etc that corporations need to step up to the plate. Of course his company will get tons of great press for what they did (he showed a video testimonial about their response and all the grateful citizens/employees) and any costs wil be passed along to the consumers (us) over time. But we'd pay for it one way or another and I have more faith in a group like that than our incompetent governmental agencies. -
Tom and I talked about this briefly and we weren't sure what kind of charity would be befitting. I mentioned perhaps purchasing a pave stone at The Ralph in memory of Paul. My son has one there in his memory and we never go to a game without stopping to say hi to Nick...the money all goes to a youth foundation and the stone will be there at least as long as the stadium is. We paid $500 for it which I thought was a bargain.

So it's ok for some Marines to state their opinion (if it jibes with yours) but not others? First Amendment freedom is speech is selective then. Well THAT'S worth dying for. Where do I sign up. Perhaps just do what I do, when someone was something you consider really stupid, roll your eyes and know that intelligent people will see through it. Unless you're afraid that there might be some truth to it....

I would have been disappointed if you'd let the opportunity go by - he would certainly not have let it pass!

From today's "Presidential [mis]Speak Calender": "Put your arm around somebody who hurts and tells 'em you love 'em". -GWBush, 3/10/05 This would possibly set off a firestorm on PPP, with a lot of yelling about flightsuits and hot pockets (not to mention KoolAid) but I just thought how ironic it is that now that Paul's gone I finally found something I can agree with GWB on... He'd probably slap me around for saying so.

"And when no hope was left inside On that starry, starry night You took your life as lovers often do"... And I'm going to miss you my friend. Godspeed.

Job Opp: Government / Marketing - Work w/ME!
blzrul replied to blzrul's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Well, let's see...knowing from past conversations that there were people on this board who I thought were educated and skilled, yet were under-employed or looking for something better, I posted a good opportunity in good faith. For my trouble I get a bunch guff. The fact is that the job's on my team and my name would have granted someone access to the hiring manager. Hey, I got mine. I guess I should have known better than to want to share it. At least with this cast of clowns. -
Lou Dobbs: Bush, Congress Tell Working Folk..
blzrul replied to Mark VI's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I guess if more working people paid attention to what's going on they wouldn't need Lou Dobbs to tell them. Of course I wonder how many of them actually watch Lou Dobbs or read his columns? Because if they paid attention to anything other than sound bites on Faux News maybe they would have figured all this out years ago. But it IS interesting, since Lou Dobbs is normally a fairly conservative kind of guy.... -

There's a referral fee? Hey - it's a good job for someone who wants paid relocation to God's country and a really good-paying job. I don't see why anyone on PPP is less deserving than other people who may not have the inside track. But then again, I could be wrong. We do only want smart people here. -
This is a job on my team. But it is no longer available. Touch Cookies.

It's a whole lot easier to line the borders with armed guards and throw all sorts of money at keeping them out....put 'em in jal...than going after the businesses who hire them illegally. Yup, right. It's like trying to stop prostitution: if the hookers stood on the streets night after night and there were no takers, eventually they'd find something else to do. Arrest and punish the johns. Likewise if no company would hire an undocumented immigrant, they wouldn't come in such numbers. Oh yeah, they'd come with forged papers, but 12 million of them? Doubtful. But this is America and we want what we want when we want it. Lacking the willpower to say no and either go without or pay higher prices, we let the politicians continue to bamboozle us with their doubletalk. As a firefighter one of the first things I learned was to aim the extinguishing agent at the base of the fire if I wanted to extinguish it. Our "leaders" ought to learn the same lesson.

Quick! Where's a Wedge Issue When U Need One?
blzrul replied to blzrul's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Both parties don't offer us much, but I cannot see why anyone would defend an administration / party which directed NSA to begin collecting information about all of our personal phone calls. How can you defend that? Answer: you can't. -
Goodness me. The Democrats are leading by double-digits for the midterm elections and the wheels continue to come off on this inept administration. People have finally either figured out that the emporer has no clothes, or are no longer afraid of the FBI/CIA/DHS/ whoever and are finally speaking out. Now is the time for all loyal neocons to swallow some more Kookaid (yes I said KOOKaid) and come the aid of their God-annointed leader. Any and all wedge issues should be submitted immediataly! Gay Marriage? Illegal Aliens? Flag Burning? Intelligent Design? etc...I just can't wait to see what all y'all come up with!
