Do they complain about those oil pumping things too? I think the windmill farms look cool. It enables you to actually see the power of the wind (live) instead of just hearing or feeling it. I love wind. Which is probably partly why I hang out here, there is SO much of it.

Hmm. Any coincidence on the timing?

That was a nonpartisan statement. I didn't say anything about Dem or Rep. The parties in power in both countries are not making people happy. When the other party's in power, people won't be happy. Right now the polls are about the incumbents for obvious reasons - things stink and people want someone to blame. If they were honest they'd look in the mirror and blame themselves. -

Uh perhaps it's because their poll numbers are in the proverbial crapper? With mid-term elections coming up here, and Poodle-Boy's party getting its ass kicked regionally in their elections, the parties have dictated a little blood-letting. Political BAU (business as usual). -
Neocons would probably prefer to forget but today is the anniversary of the famous Mission Accomplished speech. If you are employed in an occupation that sells or services medical devices, provides physical or emotional therapy, or deals in OIL and OIL by-products, not to mention beltway bandits, well you have reason to observe the day. I am not surprised the Bushies would rather we not bring it up,. Oh what the hell, let's rally round the president with a chorus of "well done".

In WA a big tax was added in 2004-5 which kicks in this year I think (who could tell with rising prices). When gas prices soared the last time, the Republicans managed to get a proposition onto the ballot to repeal the tax but it was soundly defeated. Although the traffic here is crummy overall people do tend to use alternate methods of transportation or they, like me, are sensible about their driving. I don't "run to the store" unless it's an emergency, I ride a van pool to work (my company pays) and I fill my tanks up every 2-3 weeks as a result. I realize everyone doesn't have the transportation resources I do, but even people who live out in the boonies and have to drive everywhere could conserve fuel by just planning their driving routes a little better.

If you have trouble getting to work on Monday,
blzrul replied to pdh1's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Well you could just hijack an airplane and crash into them. Kill 'em all and scare the crap out of the ones back in Mexico so they don't even TRY to come to America. Sounds stupid doesn't it. About like running them over. They're human beings. You may not want them here but the minute people start dehumanizing them we're no better than despicable people like OBL. If you were kidding, you should have used a smiley. Otherwise, for shame. I personally think they need to follow the legal route to citizenship but when they are harbored by businesses who embrace their cheap labor - and exploit it knowing they will take it because they have families to feed - I can't put all the blame on them. Clearly there's a need for them here, or they wouldn't be here in such numbers. And how loudly will this board scream when prices go up because the 11 million undocumented immigrants go away and companies are forced to pay a living wage to their workers? -
Me, I am washing and waxing my cars. What the hell, I may have to live in them some day.

Who cares about Natalee. The big news is that the Alpaca Society is taking credit for Brad and Angelina's brat's name, Suri. Apparently it means some kind of alpaca. Now THAT is news. Just think how the poor thing will be scarred for life, what with two famous parents, all that money and a funny name. Or is it Tom and Katie's kid? I get them all confused .... But it's IMPORTANT.

Bush Seemingly Resigned to High Gas Prices
blzrul replied to YellowLinesandArmadillos's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Phooey, it's quite simple. Bush's oil buddies are watching the wheels come off his Administration and just can't resist raping us one last time because they know he's either going to eventually take a stand (to save the Repigs in the midterm election or 2008)...or because it could be a long time before they have someone so friendly to their cause in the Oval office again. -
Amen. So then why are people falling for the governments bullshirt and blaming the immigrants? Blame the government for not enforcing the laws against hiring undocumented aliens. Sic the IRS on 'em. Attack the base of the fire and it'll go out. Dicking around with the flames only fans them. Or continue to get sucked in by the talking heads and slimy politicians who have learned that dividing us over emotional but ultimately meaningless "issues" is the only way they can win.

Does that mean we have to mow our own lawns? Clean public toilets? Stay home from work and take care of our own kids? Cook our own meals? Pay more for fruits and vegetables because white people won't pick them for $3.25 an hour?! Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. We're not the only country with a problem with undocumented aliens. As long as there is nothing for them at home, and something here to make them stay, it's gonna happen. Force employers to put them on the books and pay minimum wage, and poof! the problem will go away. And if it doesn't then I guess we need them more than they need us. Non-issue. Like gay marriage and intelligent design. Just another red herring to keep the masses from paying attention to all the other bad shirt that's going on.

More from Iran. Any thoughts?
blzrul replied to Ghost of BiB's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Sounds oddly familiar. A blustering fool who no-one can believe got elected whose religiosity crafts his extremist views and makes him do and say stupid things that inflame the enemy? hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm -
A lot of illegals also obtain false ID and SSN so they can "pass" with the result that they pay taxes. And they spend their $$ here which does help our economy. The solution is to enforce the laws against business hiring off the books and paying less than minimum wage. Level the playing field and see what happens. If the jobs still go begging (and I agree you won't see too many Anglo migrant workers picking strawberries etc) then the choice is either to raise the minimum wage paid for these jobs or...gulp....let the immigrants do them. My daughter got her job at age 16, has been promoted twice, filed her first income tax return this year (she's now 17), has been able to purchase two 35mm cameras and pay her own car insurance. I told her she had to, period. Although we are well able to pay for snotty designer labels and the like she is perfectly happy with her Chuck Taylors and revels in finding nice jeans at a bargain. If we give her a car it's going to be the old Honda which so far has over 108k miles on it. And she'll be thrilled to get it.

If it's to be believed the poor guy is on the Canary Islands. Probably just wants to know if we're all whack or what. That is a hard question to answer, maybe we need a poll. :-)

I love it. This is just the latest wedge issue dreamed up by the politicians. It was amusing last evening to hear the evening news open stating that "13% of Americans think undocumented aliens are an issue...". WTF - that means 87% don't give a rat's ass. So then why is it the lead story???? hmmmm The fact is that THE LAWS ARE ON THE BOOKS. Tell the pro-business politicians to start enforcing them even though it WILL mean that their buddies have to pay ... gulp ... full minimum wage to Murkins. And if they can't fill the jobs then, well...gulp...they'll have to raise the minimum wage so that Murkins will want the jobs! Let's see...whatever happened to gay marriage? That served its purpose in 2004. I guess that those evil undocumented aliens are needed to distract the voting public from the dismal 30% Congressional approval rating that will come into play this fall. How stupid are we really? I guess we'll find out. -
Papers: Cheney Aide Says Bush OK'd Leak
blzrul replied to YellowLinesandArmadillos's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
It's right up there with a recent letter to the editor I read, dissecting and seeking to redefine the meaning of "mission accomplished". hee hee. I love watching the wheels come off. -

Delay, the gift that keeps giving
blzrul replied to YellowLinesandArmadillos's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Well the latest has is that DeLay is dropping out of the race. It would seem if that's the case that he's been cut loose from the mother ship. Maybe he'll just plead guilty and go away quietly. I wouldn't put it past him to have someone orchestrate a write-in campaign for poor beleagered Tom. Yuck. Now I need to go wash my hands and gargle. He's disgusting. -
I demand a congressional investigation
blzrul replied to VABills's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
"his"? ugh. now THAT is an insult. I suppose watching the Sabres lose is better than watching the Sonics lose, but I did neither. It's baseball season - time to get ready to watch the Mariners lose! -

Technically speaking that's not incorrrect - no invasion, no reason for them to be there, and no abduction. It was certainly a most ungracious and ungrateful statement though. Sheesh. -
Spitzer: Upstate New York is 'Appalachia'
blzrul replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
For all you know the Simon School might have told him his idea was excellent. I have an MBA myself ... I thought it was stupid, but I thought getting the ferry in the first place was stupid. Who the hell would want to leave Toronto to visit Rochester. Duh. -

blzrul replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Uh because a comment was made that the Simon school should have been consulted about the ferry. And I wasn't "asking" I was stating. I lived there, and it did happen.
