  1. I think he's right. If New York was emotionally ready to move on, the hole wouldn't be there any more. When the time is right, something will take the place of the WTC. NO arguably was just as traumatized and should be given the same consideration. I wonder though whether charitable donations and government subsidies to rebuild NO come anywhere near that of NYC? I am not going to argue need, or deservedness, but I know that there are still charities actively soliciting donations for 9/11 victims/families (FedEx is one). I haven't seen that for New Orleans.
  2. Please don't insult retarded people. In most cases they have more honor, integrity and goodwill than all politicians and moronic, ill-informed American voters combined.
  3. Well even if you are joking you'd better be careful. Your fearless leader's brain, Karl Rove, has been quoted as stating the exact opposite, e.g. that the more educated people are, the more they tend to vote Democratic. I realize the image of a knuckle-dragger is probably not flattering to your ego but...well, if the shoe fits.... (I'm joking for your humor impaired Rethugs)
  4. I saw photos recently of "toilet art", one of which had an American flag decorating the tank and the four corners, plus the seat. I'd rather see it burnt.
  5. Paul would say that. In fact my inbox is still full of those queries. I just bought two new pairs of stilettos in Paul's memory as a matter of fact. O my achin feet. Being called at ass by you is a supreme compliment, thanks!
  6. Of COURSE it has its place but these plots typically take more than 24 hours to conceive, plot and execute. So just because it may be "inconvenient" to wait up to 24 hours, in the grand scheme of things unless the agencies have been snoozing for months, getting the tap (or installing it and then going for the warrantm which is allowed in "emergency" situations) should not be a big deal.
  7. Thank you, o Oracle.
  8. Papperwerk is harb wif all them big werds whut need ter be spelled aftur all y'all....
  9. Let's see, what do you think is more effective? 1) Putting a mole into a suspected terrorist organization, getting confirmation of activities in time to get legal wiretaps focused on key suspects, which yield enough information to actually BREAK UP a terrorist plot? 2) Have the ability to do warrantless wiretapping on anyone and everyone in America, thereby creating all sorts of chatter for organizations to weed through, resulting in memos that no-one reads and quite possibily missing a terrorist plot? I'll take the first case every time, because it's proven to work. The second? Well the Administration SAYS it's foiled plots but can produce no evidence whatsoever that it's the truth. In fact Cheney is running around lying and claiming that it was the wiretapping that broke up the UK plot...uh yeah but without the MOLE, you dumbass, how did they know whose wires to tap? When you can get a legal wiretap within 24 hours there is no reason to do it without a warrant...certainly the evildoers take longer than that to hatch their plots, so perhaps a little more legwork up front would be worthwhile. Then we'd get actual evildoers instead of morons with thousands of cellphones.
  10. He's a Republican. His Fearless Party Leader makes up words all the time. In fact he makes up a whole lot of other stuff too!
  11. I didn't know Michigan had an economy....heehee So CNN has picked it up. I don't think they were trying to disrupt shipping, they probably just figured that all the "big" bridges (Golden Gate, Brooklyn, etc) would be under surveillance and this one would not. Poor Michigan. Perhaps they should have looked in Wisconsin. Who freakin buys 1,000 cellphones and thinks no-one notices? I work for a wireless company and we for sure notice that stuff. Duh.
  12. The latest domestic terrorism plot involved three morons from Texas who bought 1,000 cellphones at a Wal-Mart intending, authorities say, to blow up a bridge in Michigan. Now THERE is a plot that should strike fear into our hearts. Ok, ok, it would be a bad thing, I don't mean to dis Michican and I'm sure people would die and it would be bad but...it's Michigan ok? It's not like it's a high-priority target that DHS wants to protect at all costs, like that petting zoo in Florida or something. As I recall the last big terror arrests were more Texas morons who had all sorts of chemicals and nasty things, that one a few years ago but after 9/11. I don't know whether someone should write a musical comedy about these incompetent nitwits (and thank goodness for THAT) or whether Bush ought to invade Texas and fight 'em over there...probably a lot cheaper than the Middle East and that's a war I could actually support [For those who want a source, it's on page A4 of this m]orning's Seattle Times and no doubt somewhere on the web too.
  13. Yuk. They didn't show it here in Seattle but from the NFL channel it appeared as if it took less than 3 minutes into the new seasons for the Bills QB to get sacked. And the other clips I saw didn't look any better. The Hawks aren't looking great either. Ah well, it's only pre-season.
  14. Yes so you can't get liquids thru security but you can BUY them (for 2-3x usual price) PAST security, but even if the TSA is standing right next to you and sees you take the water out of the cooler and drink half you are still not allowed to bring it on board. Makes perfect sense. I see that the tip came from a Muslim. Dear me, I thought they were all bloodthirsty murderers who hated freedom (that's sarcasm for you who can't stand anything that isn't black and white). For this plot to have stood a chance of success it would have to have been plotted and executed from within the US. It's August, and brush-cuttin' time.
  15. It's nice to know that other countries are able to detect and foil terrorist attacks against the US. Too bad I don't feel confident that our government is capable of doing the same...well, it obviously it NOT capable, given what happened in 1993, 1995 and 2001....
  16. Holy crap, an excellent point.
  17. I got a phone call 2-3 weeks ago telling me when they'd arrive but they're not here yet and I am becoming annoyed. In the past you had to sign for them, so I know the minute that no-one is here during the dy they will attempt delivery.... My Seahawks ticket came last week, and the gift pack they included was really nice. The Bills don't even send a media guide any more.
  18. Now there is an intelligent answer. After you get your diaper changed come back and maybe we can have a discussion like real grownups.
  19. We are letting politicians send OUR children to get blown up. So how are we any better...?
  20. Be fair, you don't even see them HERE And when you do it's usually wingnuts or doofuses like Larry The Cable Guy whose endorsement no-one wants.
  21. The United States allows private paramilitary training camps to operate legally in Georgia, among other places. These camps train people who, once they leave, become to SOMEONE a "terrorist'. And they may be cascading their training to terrorist organizations. So should we be subject to bombing and invasion? Don't misunderstand me, I think Israel has a right to protect itself. I think Lebanon's government is wrong to allow Hezbollah to stay. But I have GREAT sympathy for the poor civilian slobs who, as always, are paying the heaviest price. They, like us, have the LEAST to say over the matter and suffer the most. A little compassion for them wouldn't hurt.
  22. To say that the prisons of today are a liberal's dream is a load of crap. A true liberal would seek to make them into institutions that could actually rehabilitate these creeps (which is probably impossible in many cases). Prisons are in actuality nothing more than warehouses for people we want to keep away from society and if they weren't given just enough leeway to commit crimes on the inside they're be out of control. That would mean there would have to be a much higher ratio of guards to prisoners, or that each prisoner would have to be in 23-hour per day lockdown or chained up somehow. We're too busy throwing money away on phony wars and Halliburton to pay for more guards and chaining people up conflicts with our smug self-image of somehow being any better than the rest of the world. It's nice that you care so much about those poor prisoners having to live in horrible criminal environments but if you're looking to blame "liberals" you're even more deluded than I'd previously thought.
  23. Jack if we're close and there's nothing outstanding PM me where we are, I can probably make up the difference.
  24. Have you ever buried one of your children? If not then you probably don't know how it feels and you certainly don't know how you'll react until/unless it happens. Losses like that can change people forever. I hope you never find out what it feels like. How about a little tolerance? She's not hurting anyone.
  25. Before or after her buddy Rush got busted a few times for .. um ... drugs? I wonder.
