  6. Oh, baby Well there's a light in your eye that keeps shining Like a star that can't wait for night I hate to think I been blinded baby Why can't I see you tonight? And the warmth of your smile starts a burning And the thrill of your touch give me fright And I'm shaking so much, really yearning Why don't you show up and make it alright, yeah? It's alright right
  7. I happened to be in midtown Manhattan attending a conference. As word started to filter through that a plane had hit a tower, most thought "that's weird...it's a beautiful day...pilot must have had a medical issue" and assumed it was a small private plane. Obviously, things progressed quickly from there as the scope of the events became apparent. Impressions from that day include: - Furiously trying to get a hold of my wife back in Chicago and battling congested cell service - standing on Broadway and looking south towards a smoke-filled sky - Eerie silence as the day progressed and all traffic (except for emergency vehicles) ceased on the streets - A unique "disaster camaraderie" that engulfed the people staying in the hotel. Only guests were allowed on the property and the bar was the main gathering spot Ultimately, I was able to get off on Manhattan the next day, working my way north to an office my company had in CT. From there was able to rent a car and drive back to Chicago. Even though I was not that close to the World Trade Center, just being in NYC that day has definitely affected me. To this day, I cannot watch 9-11 documentaries or retrospectives.
  8. Run, Run, Run, Run, Run, Run, Run, Run, Run, Run, Run, Run, Run, Run, Run, Run. You better make your face up in Your favorite disguise. With your button down lips and your Roller blind eyes. With your empty smile And your hungry heart. Feel the bile rising from your guilty past. With your nerves in tatters When the cockleshell shatters And the hammers batter Down the door. You'd better run.
  9. Precious and few are the moments we two can share Quiet and blue, like the sky, I'm hung over you And if I can't find my way back home, it just wouldn't be fair 'Cause precious and few are the moments we two can share
  10. Mephistopheles is not your name I know what you're up to just the same I will listen hard to your tuition You will see it come to its fruition I'll be wrapped around your finger I'll be wrapped around your finger
  11. The writer stare with glassy eyes Defies the empty page His beard is white, his face is lined And streaked with tears of rage Thirty years ago, how the words would flow With passion and precision But now his mind is dark and dulled By sickness and indecision And he stares out the kitchen door Where the sun will rise no more
  12. We see so many tribes -- overrun and undermined While their invaders dream of lands they've left behind Better people -- better food -- and better beer Why move around the world when Eden was so near? The bosses get talking so tough And if that wasn't evil enough We get the drunken and passionate pride Of the citizens along for the ride
  13. Breathe, breathe in the air Don't be afraid to care Leave but don't leave me Look around, choose your own ground For long you live and high you fly And smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry And all your touch and all you see Is all your life will ever be
  14. Dark Tower is a great call...even with the "love it or hate it" ending. Other series that I enjoy(ed): - Song of Ice & Fire (aka Game of Thrones)...not holding my breath that George Martin will ever finish it, however - The Jack Reacher novels by Lee Child - The "Prey" series by John Sanford (the Lucas Davenport books)...also the Virgil Flowers series by same author. Two great crime/police procedural series
  15. I'm interpreting this as things that haven't aged well because you have changed, not because the thing has changed. So I'm staying away from the "she was hot 20-30 years ago but now is old and no longer hot" response. - Jean shorts - We've been going through old pictures putting together a slideshow for a family thing, and the jean shorts that I loved and apparently wore all the time are just...smh. My guess is I'll feel the same about cargo shorts in a few years. - Spaghettios / Beefaroni - Loved these as a kid...now they are inedible and smell like vomit - Rush song Fly By Night - Look, there is arguably no bigger Rush fan here than me. They have been "the soundtrack to my life" for well over 40 years. But for some reason, this one song, which I used to love, just sounds so dated and cringy to me now. - Knit ties - Really, what were we thinking? I hear these are coming back in style...god help us
  16. You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill I will choose a path that's clear, I will choose Freewill
  17. Out of touch With the weather and the wind direction With the sunrise And the phases of the moon Out of touch With life in the land of the loving With the living night And the darkness at high noon You can never break the chain There is never love without pain A gentle hand, a secret touch on the heart A gentle hand, a secret touch on the heart
  18. They might be...I did not check. But his breakout 3rd year happened in empty stadiums until the playoffs, and the team's struggles in KC were partly due to crowd noise. Dealing with that is a point of emphasis this year, so I'll trust they will be well-prepared for it.
  19. When I drink soda, it's usually club soda/seltzer/soda water (whatever your part of the word calls it). When I venture away from that, it typically is a "clear" soda like Sprite. When I'm feeling really wild, I'll grab an orange Fanta.
  20. Nice interview...but what's the point of having a "socially distanced" setup if you end it with a handshake?? I think this team's ability to play away games in loud hostile stadiums will be key...the 17K in KC definitely impacted things. JA says that is a big focus; I hope he's right.
  21. 552 miles from my home in IL...9 hrs or so
  22. Too many rapids Keep us sweeping along Too many captains Keep on steering us wrong It's hard to take the heat It's hard to lay blame To fight the fire While we're feeding the flames
  23. Went to college in Vermont a long time ago and made regular trips across the border just to buy beer. Always liked when the boarder agent asked how long we would be in Canada and we answered "about 15 minutes."
