Actually now that I've watched the tape (after attending the game) I noticed that we DID shut down the run in the 2nd half. I'm not sure it would have mattered much whether DV stuck with the run more because it was really locked down in the 2nd half. Remember that draw play on like 3rd and 46 where L. Johnson got 20 yards or so as well at the end of the game. It didn't quite seem like it at the game, but after watching again, the Running game was contained and the Chiefs were forced to throw more than I had thought.

The most promising thing about his play yesterday was not necessarily those two throws as would be easy to assume, but what he did to create the opportunity for Evans on both throws. (look at the tape if you have it). In both cases he held the free safety in the middle of the field by first looking right to a read, then quickly over the middle, before launching the 9 route to Evans on the left. This displays one of the most important aspects of grasping the NFL quarterback position. It's good to atleast know he is able to execute and grasp it and is being coached to do so as well.

Yep, he is definitely one of the few willing to do it. Of course I've never seen ANY team in the modern era as commited to the run as Pitt.

On this note, it seems that the vast majority of NFL teams have this same disease. On third and 3 or longer, they will not run the ball, unless it's a draw out of a spread formation. I simply don't understand this "trend"

I've never seen Aaron play with so much lean before until yesterday. He looked like a slalom or GS skier out there for god's sake. It was pretty evident he was putting forth a ton of effort and he seems to continue to improve his technique.

You appear to (I admit I could be way off-base here) have a pre-determined "Axe to grind" with this staff so I'm not sure I can realistically get the point across but I'll still tell you that it's a very common occurence throughout the league to have to develop some of your players. Again, I have watched Crowell closely and in year 1 he absolutely sucked. And regrading the Peters reference, the "if Jason Peters ever makes it to the starting lineup" part was likely reference to him learning how to play the position, something he did not have going for him until very recently.

It's really very simple. It's because guys like that aren't always good right away. Especially guys drafted in the mid rounds and late rounds. They are constantly learning technique things in practice with their position coaches, learning how to interpret game film, developing their strength and conditioning, and watching and learning from the players ahead of them on the depth chart. Crowell was very average to below average as a player for atleast his first season and possibly his second as I saw it. Boy has he stepped it up!

From what I remember, Sam was out a significant amount of time in the 2nd quarter as well (I could be wrong), and just from watching the pursuit to the ball carrier, I didn't see those gaping holes that I saw when Sam was in there. I think that Dillon hit on some draws in the second half too, and remember too that we're dealing with lesser talent there too so guys are going to get yards against us anyway. It looked to me early that Pass was going to gouge us with Sam in there before he went down. Don't get me wrong, I know Sam can be a great player but he needs to play with discipline.

If it's any consolation, the Bills played their best run defense of the season so far when Big Sam was benched. Sure they had lesser talent in there, but they were playing TEAM defense.

1st off, that's hindsight just like Sully uses now. 2nd. I doubt we every would have drafted Freeney because of what happened with 2nd round choice Corey Moore just a season or 2 earlier. Freeney was the same undersized speed rusher that Corey was in college, and actually broke Corey's sack record. I'm not sure they would have taken that chance twice even though Freeney has become an excellent player.

A very true statement. People are still stuck in 1980's football where a "LT must make x amount of $" and " a LG can only make x amount", etc. If your player is one of the 5 starting linemen AND contributing in high degree to having some success (this is yet to be seen with MW) on said line, it really doesn't matter if he falls into some sort of pay hierarchy, especially when potentially you have a decent starting tackle who came in as a street free agent. Do I think that MW still needs to restructure his salary? Yes, but there is certainly more than one successful way to build an O-line. - I like what we have (generally speaking) in Teague, Chris V, Preston, and Peters. -MW is now a question mark at LG but we'll find out soon enough, and he is certainly atleast a fair to good RT based on his play for @ 10 games last year and this year when healthy. -Gandy has been serviceable, and played decent so far but likely can and should be upgraded. - Considereing these things, it appears the Bills are probably only a very good tackle away from having a group of guys to make a line that can be more than just average, depending also on where Preston shakes out to (C or G). Overall, salary wise, this does not project to be an "overpaid" group when you look at it as a unit. Just some opinions from a rose colored glasses wearing fan that doesn't know anything about football.
