  1. The “assessment” was made in the context of knowing the ultimate outcome of the Kane trade and comparing the two trades. Then again, we are still waiting on a future 4th round pick in ‘19 or a 3rd round pick in ‘20 from San Jose for the final piece of that trade and the subsequent development of that player and whether or not he pans out, so I guess we have to wait years to, you know, fully assess the Kane trade as well. I never used the word “fail”, either. I’ve used terms like “at this time” and “so far” which thoroughly imply the ultimate outcome is yet to be determined. But if you think it’s unfair to criticize the ROR trade even in that context, what can I say? My opinion that we currently have NOTHING to show for the ROR trade is well founded. People can disagree with that all they like. But UNTIL Thomson and/or that 30th or 31st pick pan out and contribute even CLOSE to on a par with ROR, I can’t be persuaded otherwise. The criticism of the trade is not unfair.
  2. Like I said, it’s either Thompson becoming a good top six winger or a 30th/31st draft pick becoming one. I haven’t written off the trade, either, as I’ve also said “so far.” I also mentioned Krueger tapping into and developing Thompson’s potential as well in a previous post. But right now, it’s a whole lotta nothing in return for a star player. That is simply the sad truth.
  3. I don’t disagree necessarily, but bum or not, he’s an excellent hockey player. And it’s too bad we don’t have anything to show for the trade at this point. I hope they beat Boston, too.
  4. Norman Lear is 96? He looks the same as he did when he launched these two groundbreaking and iconic shows. While the material is still relevant, I lament that today’s generation just can’t handle language. And that’s a shame because it really gets in the way of the message.
  5. Is it his age at that’s the concern? Because from a salary standpoint, when I look at upper echelon edge rushers (and I consider him to be one) $11.5m per isn’t a huge number for a DE of his caliber. And guaranteeing less than $10m per year is a steal imo. And because of no bonus structure (that we know of currently) don’t they mitigate the risk of dead money in the future?
  6. I'm totally at peace in the present. Even if that present is marred by current state of the Sabres trade of ROR. But thanks for your concern. Was it Tzu who also said, "If my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle?"
  7. Perhaps. But isn't it possible the new contract doesn't kick in until his old one is completed after 2019? It's an extension, after all. Isn't also possible that the new contract structure is all salary and no signing bonus at $23m/$11.5m per year for '20 and '21 with $19.5m guaranteed? Just tossing that out there.
  8. From Spotrac: Current Contract Jerry Hughes signed a 2 year, $23,000,000 contract with the Buffalo Bills, including $19,500,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $11,500,000. In 2019, Hughes will earn a base salary of $6,350,000, a roster bonus of $1,000,000 and a workout bonus of $150,000, while carrying a cap hit of $10,400,000. 9. Wish I shared your optimism about Thompson. And maybe Krueger can tap into his potential and draw it out. Size and skill is nice but not when that size isn’t strong enough and the skill isn’t consistent enough. But he’s young and still developing so there’s hope.
  10. As it turned out, I don’t like either trade, either. But good or not, Montour is at least a tangible asset as a top four Dman. Which is at least something for Kane. And that’s better than the nothing we got for ROR to this point.
  11. I was only looking at the transaction with the Sharks. But yeah, I suppose one could add all the elements to include the Ducks. it was more of a lament of the ROR trade. If the Sharks had won and Anaheim acquired the pick we got from the Blues instead, at least we could say we have Montour to show for that pick. But we don’t, making the trade with St. Louis even worse.
  12. Words do not do justice to the magnitude of these words; their sheer wisdom is beyond the grasp of mere mortals to comprehend. Then again, it all depends on how your aunt chooses to identify.
  13. Apparently D.B. Weiss and David Benioff are not too pleased with the drop off in fan quality. https://entertainment.theonion.com/game-of-thrones-showrunners-disappointed-with-how-qua-1834843021
  14. This is a REALLY REALLY bad look for McBeane and Co. and their so called "process."
  15. Unfortunately, that's true. Unless Thompson becomes a solid top six player, which I doubt, or the 30th or 31st in the upcoming draft becomes one instead, which I doubt even more, then we have absolutely nothing to show for the ROR trade. Nothing. I'm gonna go ahead and label it the worst trade in Buffalo pro sports history. At least until I comb the memory banks for something worse among the Bills, Sabres, or Braves. Right now, I can't remember one.
  16. So it looks like we can close the book on the Kane deal, at least until draft future picks are made. It was Kane to San Jose for Montour, O’Reagan, and a conditional 2019 4th, which the Sharks can defer to a 2020 3rd.
  17. I didn’t read the link. I was going off Shrader’s post. Glad PHam isn’t as big a clueless moron as I thought. Still not a fan though. He’s perhaps the worst interviewer in history with his uncanny ability to answer his own questions as he’s asking them. In court, they’d say that’s leading a witness. In the lockerroom, it’s crappy journalism.
  18. You know that. I know that. Paul Hamilton? Well, ‘nuff said.
  19. ScottLaw will be upset that you’ve preempted his take.
  20. I think he may end up regretting that. I know I’m in the minority, but I just don’t think he’s destined for greatness as a left tackle.
  21. Two main factors contributed to not being able to retain Woods: his desire to go home and play and, more importantly, his reluctance to play another year with TT at QB. We would have had to grossly overpay just for him to consider staying. Not saying he wouldn’t have turned down an inflated offer, but it would have put us in a worse cap situation than we were already in.
  22. Because that same secondary finished 1st and 3rd in the most important pass defense statistics without that identifiable #2 CB. And since Wallace did nothing less than solidify the position once he was inserted into the lineup and I’m not sure the job isn’t his to lose currently, I might argue we do know who our 2CB is.
  23. If the worst thing that happens to you on a given day is waiting a bit longer in line at the store, you’re having a damn good day. Have you ever irked the person behind you for taking extra time? I don’t think calling into question a list of top defensive secondaries compiled via half-assed research is irrational in the least. If consumers don’t hold content providers accountable, who does? Anyway, we’ve tossed this around long enough. Feel free to avoid my takes in the future if it’s like the counting out 87 cents.
