That may be true, but there is little to no similarity in the blocking schemes employed and that makes all the difference. As I mentioned previously, Roman uses BOTH zone concepts as well as man concepts during the course of a series and game. Other teams, like us for instance, simply don’t do that because of the sheer physical traits required in an O lineman to do so effectively on a play by play basis. That might be the most confusing challenge Roman offers up to a defense, too.

Agree entirely. What he also has in Lamar, unlike in Kaep and Taylor, is a QB who is NOT risk averse in the passing game. Granted, they haven’t had to rely on their pass game very much, but Jackson has shown he’s not afraid to chuck it and make a play. But like Kaep in SF, I’m not sure it’s a sustainable system. DCs will again make it a point to ignore the “mesh point” or “pitch” confusion and instruct their DLs and LBs to hit Jackson, regardless. It will take a toll eventually. It’s inevitable when your QB is taking an inordinate number of risks as a running back.

This can’t be overstated. Especially with his use of multiple blocking schemes. While nothing new in terms of those schemes themselves (power/man, inside/outside zone, etc,) his use of BOTH equally is unique. Most OLs, like ours for instance, are more suited for one or the other, seldom both, simply because of the different lineman types required to maximize each. Not so in Baltimore.

1996 is great. It will be nice to see where Josh is in his 14th season as well. Have you looked at Elway’s relative rankings to his peers over the 10 years it took him to hit the 60% plateau? While middling in terms of completion percentage, he was a GREAT quarterback, regardless. That’s because there’s a difference between being a passer and being a QB. People can harp all they want about Allen’s completion percentage, but they are missing the much bigger picture in the meantime.

I agree there is little chance, especially in Foxboro this time of year. But NOTHING is preordained in the NFL. Nothing. We simp.y shouldn’t take that for granted.

I’ve pointed this out in the past as well. Be prepared for the, “It’s a different league now and you can’t compare across eras like that.” When I pointed out that’s true, but that you CAN compare the relative rankings to their peers of the eras, I never got a response. It took Elway 10 years to hit the 60% plateau, regardless of the era he played in.

Seems to be little regard for the “anything can happen” aspect of football. If we beat NE*** on Saturday, that is all the MORE reason to play everyone against the Jest the following week.

Bills top 10 in offensive explosive plays
K-9 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For decades coaches always defined them as plays of 20+ yards, be it run or pass. I had no idea that the criteria for running plays was 15+ yards until today. -
How bad is Levi Wallace making tackles?
K-9 replied to Stallions's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Levi, like 99% of DBs nowadays, has an issue with technique more than anything else. It’s maddening to see these guys, time after time, think all they have to do to get a guy down is throw a shoulder into him. Wrong! Tackling requires WRAPPING UP the ball carrier. Especially when you don’t have a size advantage. You’d think coaches would be driving this point home 24/7. -

He certainly had ample reason to complain, that’s for sure. -

What kind of person begrudges an 85 year old man his right to protest after years of dedication? Especially given all that he did for his fellow Bills fans over the years. You sound bitter towards Russ. What, did he overcook your steak or something? Kick you out of his party in Fort Lauderdale? -

Who takes the time to write that letter? A person totally committed to the team for decades who has had his heart broken and needs to vent. And he is SO much more than a restaurant owner. That’s the LEAST of what he is. -

FFS, the last person who deserves derision for losing faith in this team is Russ Salvatore. He’s a great, self-made man and we have been fortunate to have him in our community for all these years. From his many philanthropic contributions to his ceaseless Buffalo boosting in the business community, he’s shown time and time again that he puts Buffalo and it’s people first. How many other fans have we known to have reached their breaking point over the years? Christ, how many of them come to this forum just to rejoice in that? There has never been a bigger fan of this team and he’s welcome aboard the band wagon any time he wishes to climb back on.- 85 replies
