Start Johansson IMMEDIATELY! No need to just defer to spaz attack Hutton because of some arcane hierarchy. Screw that BS deference to the lovable veteran. Hutton sucks. Johansson can’t be worse, so let him start gaining experience immediately. There’s only one way to know if the moment is too big for him and that’s to place him in the moment.

I wish I could disagree with this assessment, but sadly, I can’t. The simple reality is that we lack the necessary talent to contend, the young players we’d hoped would pan out and contribute haven’t, the young players we hope will pan out are in no position to help until they do (if ever) and JBotts has a maddening tendency to bring in the same kind player over and over again; a steady stream of interchangeable bottom six forwards. In addition, he has royally screwed the pooch with the goaltending situation as well.

Reggie Ragland speaks out about his career and leaving Buffalo...

He simply lacks the athleticism to be effective in pass coverage in a league where two down thumpers are passé. -
My problem with PFF is that all of their analysis is done in a vacuum and lacks context as a result.

Nobody’s crying. But there are some long suffering fans around here who’ve supported this team in every conceivable way during some of the worst hockey imaginable. Pardon me if I sound off. I’ve earned the right. There is one guy, ONE, in this coming draft who stands a chance of making an immediate impact of ANY kind, let alone a major one. Do you know the odds of winning the lottery to have a chance to draft him? Sorry, I’m not looking forward to tanking the rest of the season only to see us pick 4th overall and missing out.

Way to come off the bye, boys. Stuff of champions. I suspect this fragile group of losers will fold like the cheap tent they are over the next nine games, eight of which are at home. Whenever they’ve been faced with needing a post-bye surge the last five years, they choked. Why would it be any different this year? Anyway, I’ll watch to see Eichel and Dahlin, but that’s it.
-
I would need to check the list of bye weeks for each team, but there are several that are off this week so those teams would have gotten those couple days leading up to the all star game. I doubt those teams end up getting more than the 10 days we ended up getting between games, though. It’s probably pretty even throughout the league.

Chargers moving on from Philip Rivers after 16 years
K-9 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Regarding Rivers and the HOF, the election committees over time have always valued longevity combined with statistics. Always. As a result, rivers will make the HOF. It’s just a question of when. While I personally don’t think he will make it in his first year of eligibility, I am not underestimating the power of lobbying that some voters may have on the other electors, either. -

I appreciate the sentiment, but there is really no delicate way of cutting ties with a long time player who still wants to play in the league even if you don’t want him. I’m sure that when he hangs ‘em up, the Charters will give him a proper ceremony. -
Amen.

If Eichel raced McDavid in a straight line, he would smoke him. But nobody can turn a corner and accelerate at the same time like McJesus. Somewhere on the interwebs is a breakdown of both of them that explains the different way they achieve high speed on skates. Jack is pure power, able to achieve top speed in a couple strides, whereas McDavid uses more more steps to keep accelerating. Watch how he turns the corner tonight and you’ll notice it.

Great points, all. I’ve been arguing for years that while it’s a bad idea to compare players across eras, you can compare their relative standings to their peers across eras.

Time to add another onion to your belt.

That well may be the case, but the voters also value longevity and a consistent level of good play over time, especially when combined with all time statistics. There is simply no denying the fact that, great or not, Gore ranks third on the all time yardage list, well ahead of many of those all time greats. He’s the other end of the Sayers spectrum, if you will.

Definitely Tim Tindale.
