Its a political argument to get the people to change the complexion of the Congress so they can push through a Bills that is much more convoluted with more anti-gun goodies in it, and face little/less opposition. The mis caluculation is that most people when queried say they are for stonger guns laws in a sincere attempt to deter gun violence, really don't vote "gun issue", and as sad as it was to see that father on the stage with the President on Wednesday, most of those voter not really care although they empathize with the people who lost children. Put a clean bill to vote and it gets through. Politics is a negotiation, as we all know... you never leave the tabel without leaving something you wanted behind, but the President had a lot to gain by getting something quality and impactful through. He has no one to blamce but himself and his allies in Congress who placed a bet with bad odds...

Tweets from Bills practice = AWESOME!
B-Large replied to Mike in Syracuse's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Kind of ironic. I think the banner at the practice facility says "Don't let Effort be confused with Achievement" or something like that. -
Don't they call Coburn Dr. No? I don't always agree with Coburn, but he is a heck of a public servant, and tells **** the way it is. We already have the best Healthcare in the world, the Bill attempts to address three big issues, access, coverage and cost. The debate is in whether it will acheive those three goals, and at least make progress in addressing them.

Ok, so he makes it clear that video games and movies are violent, then what? Other than making people "feel good" about him ragging on Hollywood, what would you suggest to curb that influence? Goverment approval of movie content? Banning violent content? We already have a regulatory body that rates the movies and their content, give them even more power over creative expression? Then it onto CSI Miami, Criminal Minds, Bones? Does the government implode a successful video game industry in the effort of keeping reponsible citizens from entertainment in their homes? Frankly, I find some of the content, especially the the shows like Criminal Minds abhorrent, but do honestly believe playing violent video games and violent movies incline people to go kill a bunch of school kids? Roughing up hollywood, locking up everybody with Depression and banning all Guns is not going to curb the determined... we saw that in Boston last week. Maybe instead of whidespread action and more laws, perhaps we just come to the realization that in a lands of guns and free people, there will be collateral damage..... just hope its not you, or your kids in that next school.... or Chef's wife on her scooter... or the People who were shot in the neighborhood near my house as part of gang intiation...

Meanwhile, non-white or developing-world terrorism suspects are often reflexively portrayed as representative of larger conspiracies, ideologies and religions that must be dealt with as systemic threats — the kind potentially requiring everything from law enforcement action to military operations to civil liberties legislation to foreign policy shifts. Al Queda is very clear about their collective ideology, and chose attacks that represent it and take credit for it- we didn't assign the label on them, they assigned it on themselves. and they are not alone, there are many groups who are open about their mission and goals. While Male Privilge? Didn't we start tracking the purchase of bomb materials becuase of McVeigh and the Una Bomber? Does the author honestly believe our intelligence depts are not profiling looking out for the next Lanza, Kleibold, Harris, McVeigh, etc.? I like reading aritcles and reports from both sides of the ideological spectrum, but I would not be upset to never read a Salon article again....

Pics or the offense never happended, I always say.... Its like anything in life, do you take the time to think through what a decison will mean in many facets of your life? What are the unintended consqeunces of law that have good intentions? Are you prepared to rexamine your stance based on on the outcomes? Most people do none of those, but in their defense, life circumtsances change and people change.... probably no different than that forearm tat you wished you had forgone...

Barney Frank Making The Boston Marathon Tragedy Political
B-Large replied to 3rdnlng's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
So is that on the nameplate on your desk? I remember the first day I logged on to this section, somebody commented along the lines of "Its a place where there is good discussion, and we basically treat each other like ****"- for all intents and puposes, that sums this place up. -
I don't know at this point... If the BIlls think he is the future QB for us, bring us 15 years of position stability, then no problem with that pick at 8. After 15 playoff season Nassib at 8 is not the biggest reach ever- I honestly don't care, I just want a QB picked and developed under stable coaching, and with players around him to showcase his abilities and help him succeed.

Meh, he was asked the questioned and babbled on to items unrelated/ irrelevant to the tragedy... its makes him look stupid... but then again he's a poltician, always something to say and can't get infront of enough cameras, so what do we expect. I'd like to hear Chris Christie handle that question if he were being asked, my guess it would be very different. All he had to say was the response was excellent, a testament to our security forces, let pray for the victims and their families. I haven't been on board with a bigger bunch of dickheads, but someting keeps me coming back... maybe its my thick skin and testicles between my legs.... -
http://www.murfreesb...hools-cms-34994 Interesting article on the School Choice bill in the Tennesee General Assembly. I have to question did these proponents not realize that these Vouchers, by law, could be used at any private school that was eligible, not just Xtian or secular? So a question, if a student who otherwise would be in a failing school in Tennesee gets a voucher and thrives at a Muslin private school, thereby proving the school choice initiative does work and work well, should it matter that it is Muslim? Why would it, why would it not?

President Obama Proposes Cap On Retirement Savings
B-Large replied to TakeYouToTasker's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
How is it ****ty argument? SS and Medicare are earned entitlements through years of contributions. The tax deferred nature of a 401K is a government incentive to save money, lets call it a loophole for all intents and puposes. I didn't say it was a bad thing to encourage people to save for retirement, but it doesn't change the fact that government should not necessarily be able to chose which behaviors are desirable and which are not. I don't think in any post, at anytime have I implied that people's money is the State's money first. This system of deductions, credits, and other tax devices is in place for one reason, to give the Government more say over each and every Americans life (for the most part the devices are productive and well intentioned, for th emost part). Why can't the Government collect their flat amount from every citizen and allow you, me and every other Amercians to chose where they want to spend or save their money, and it what amounts? -

Its not an entitlment per se, because you are not forced to contribute to a qualified program. but a deduction is prefential treatment by the government to enagage in certains behaviors, so it is mildy coercive. -

Fair enough.... I assume once you hit the cap, you have to put your money in non tax advantaged private investment vehicles... as most 401Ks are with private companies anyway, I am not sure the point of capping the balance, but understand capping the contribution amount that is pre-tax.... Makes a Flat/ Fair Tax much more attractive -

Ok, so they cap what you can save in a Tax Advantaged 401k/ 403B, or at least cap the amont youo can save prior to taxation. I guess people will have to begin investing for retirement with post-tax money... most of already do it whether it is stocks, bonds, property, etc. Are we that surpised with a Government that can't help itself but to pull out the credit card and run the presses that some of these tax advantaged goodies will end up in the crosshairs. I am not suprised. I am worried they will change the law and take away my depreciation from investment real estate, that is such a sugar sweet goverment giveaway I can't get enough of it!!! To be serious though, depreciation expense on a building that goes up in value... its a great deal. Outraged? No. Suprised? No. Concerned it will affect savings rates? Probably. Is it irony that Canada is is a better fiscal situation than the US? I know its not apples to apples, but the point is not less pathetic. But you are right, they wil spend that extra dollar rather than pay doen debt of scale back programs. -
and Stupid. When doing something senative/potentially embrassing, or possible incriminating, why would someone be dumb enough to do it in e-mail or text message? He's obviously a nitwit, so you have to ask if you don't consider the consquenses of actions in personal matters, do you when you vote for legislation?

i thought that was fellow poster. Wow, NAMBLA, that is disturbing.... I'm still not sure how Norton is... but I do now know what NAMBLA is, I kind of wish I didn't.... -
I was watching ESPN on Tuesday, Jaws had Nassib as the second best QB in the draft behind Geno, and Barkley at #6. News to me. A month ago Nassib was a 3rd rounder and there seemed to be a consenses on that. Its is strange all the movement, but I guess that is why you need a GM that can stay focused on the goal, bringing in the best player on that board to be your QB, not the hottest or most touted.

Nice Work B- my wife would be utterly and totally disgusted by the bolded, underlined portion. While they often have problems getting to every location on the exact date they are due to get inspected, the Colorado Dept. of Health does get to every facility in their locus of control in the same year they are required to. The healthcare arena is a scary place sometimes, from what we have seen is this report to overwhelmning amounts of fraud to Medicare and Medicaid. Hey, I thought you had a Colorado question?
