I'm done here. I have no idea what point you're trying to make. Bass is the 81st most accurate kicker in the history of college football. He has the talent and potential to be very good. Kickers get better all the time, and they have to start somewhere. If Bass gives us 80% as a rookie I'll be fine with that.

I see you're in your argumentative mood today. Jesus. The dude has practice videos kicking 60 yarders. Every reporter at camp said something along the lines of "the hype is real" when talking about his leg. And the reason you would want to see the videos is to see how those misses occurred. Were they short? Blocked? Just move on. I'm sorry they cut your boy Hauschka.
-
Is he 75? Yeah, it was.
-
Ok. I'm sure you've watched video of all of those kicks in college, too. Not really sure what you want me to say. I knew Hauschka would be gone the day they drafted Bass as long as he didn't schitt himself in camp. There's no guarantee Bass will be great, and he might miss a couple of kicks Hauschka would have made, but I understand why, IN BUFFALO, they went with a kicker who has a powerful leg along with a decent FG% for his career in college.
-
Where did I say it would be "easier?" I'd expect him to mature and get better as he goes, but the potential is already there. The Bills didn't cut Hauschka to save money, they cut him because they believe Bass is a better weapon for them currently, and down the road. As I've said elsewhere, Bass was better in camp than Hauschka when they kicked in the stadium. I mean, Hausch just missed a PAT yesterday. I absolutely hope that no game this season comes down to a Bass 45-yard kick, because I'll be biting my nails and holding my breath. I still don't have a problem with the move.

I spent some time looking at historical college kicking percentages...here's the career list. It's interesting. Bass is 81st all-time, which means he had a pretty damn good career. Nobody is saying Bass is light years ahead of Hauschka right now but he's close enough that his upside and potential are worth making the change. He is already better at touchbacks, which are important, and he gives the team an ability to try long FGs -- particularly at home -- that were no longer an option with Hauschka. I'm sure as soon as Bass misses a 39-yarder you'll be one of the first to shout "SEE!!!" but it's bound to happen and we have to hope that his promise will meet his performance sooner rather than later.

I liked another quote of his better: Josh is making it difficult for us (the D) to create negative plays. Sure, some of it is coachspeak but if Leslie wasn't impressed he could just say the same old things --- "making progress, continuing to learn, etc." I think the statements are genuine. The anti-Joshers are going to have some 'splaining to do once the games begin...

@BillsSB2020KO wow that’s a lot of time you spent exposing your bias and ignorance.
-
Wow, great comeback. Pick one guy who failed and equate that to this situation.
-
Ha, figures you'd be against this move. I didn't feel spoiled against the Browns last year, and if Hausch still had a decent leg we'd have been able to try a 54-yarder in a dome vs. Houston in the playoffs. He was an excellent kicker for the Bills and has had a great career, but in Buffalo you need a strong leg and the writing was on the wall. The fact that Bass was nearly 80% in college should ease people's minds. He's gonna be very good.
-
He's still working on becoming the best version of himself. Sorry, that's all I got.
-
Everyone saying this is really missing the point. Yes, Hauschka made clutch FGs against Houston, but he was also the reason they couldn't try a 54-yarder earlier in the 4th quarter. The Bills used a 6th round draft pick on Bass! That's not a throwaway pick. The writing was on the wall, and the only way Hauschka was going to keep this job is if he was lights out and the kid looked out of place. Neither happened. Bass was every bit as good as Hauschka in camp, was better in the stadium conditions, and has a huge leg. Add the cap savings and this one, in hindsight, was relatively easy to predict.
-
Oh, he'll get a job for sure...he's not a "bad" kicker. The Bills simply drafted one who can be better, and probably is right now.
-
I always felt this was Bass' job to lose after the Bills used a 6th round pick on him. He proved he could handle a legitimate competition and this move makes sense to me.

Going to pat myself on the back here. I called this one pretty early.

Barkley ranked 23rd best backup by PFF

Did they only rank 23 teams? -
Instant reaction over at PFF when they learn Josh Allen completed 70% of his passes for over 300 yards:
-
There were no arrests coming out of today's scrimmage.

Let's get all of the "it was just a scrimmage" stuff out of the way because we all understand that. It is very difficult to find something negative to say, looking at the "stats" that have been tweeted. Josh Allen at 70%, >300 yds, 3 total TDs, in 2.5 quarters of work. Who in their wildest dreams expected that? And without his newest shiny toy? And the 1st string defense dominating the twos? To be expected for sure, but still great to hear. Also excited to hear that Bass was 4/5 on kicks while Hauschka missed a PAT. That's two kicking competitions in the stadium that Bass has dominated. Loved listening to Jerry Hughes afterwards as well. Wrap the starters in bubble wrap and bring on the Jets.

Does it seem to everyone that the 1st team O went against the 2nd team D and vice-versa?
-
They really aren't. We just have to hold our collective breaths that they leave Beane and McD alone.
-
I sort of think that too. I believe they gave him the extensive work earlier in the week when Josh went to him 7 times in 11-on-11 drills.
-
I agree. Somebody else then made an asinine comment that, I felt, warranted a response. Come on, dude. I don't want to debate this any further and I'm not commenting on anything other than the scrimmage.
