5-22: Whaley Will Speak on SiriusXM NFL
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He was hired by Brandon - then the ownership transition. Inherited a mediocre team, and left us a mediocre team. Had multiple bosses, some success, and some failures. I think he knew he was done after that disaster press conference. -

If Schwartz stuck around and we hired Jackson, it would've been for the best. Getting rid of Marrone's Run-Run-Pass-Punt offense was huge, bringing in Rex's "antiquated" mess was also huge. -

You also assumed what you read in the buffalo news is exactly what happened. -

You're presenting speculation as fact. You don't link any reports... and none of the people doing the reporting on this stuff were even there. That is the definition of speculation. -

I think what Hondo is saying is that... you take something someone said/wrote about and drew a certain conclusion from it without a ton of information. All he's saying is that he believes that they may have taken a business like approach, not necessarily treated the team like a business. They went in looking for a certain type of candidate, and thought they found that guy in Mcdermott. -
Carpenter was the worst kicker in the league last year. 76% on FGs, missed 5 XPs, and can't do kickoffs... Just being middle of the road is a huge upgrade. Hauschka AAV is under 3 mil per year... It's not like we went on a crazy spending spree at kicker... we just knew we needed that position to be better than it was. Yes - he missed 6 XPs in 2016. He also was 6/6 from 50+ in 2015 - and had 54 touchbacks to carpenters 28 in 2016.

Rick Dennison interview on WGR
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We built our offense around ball control, not turning it over, and ground and pound. That may not sit well with a lot of people on the board for various reasons, but we can say that that was the intended offensive identity. Tyrod was not great, but we can say sufficient since he at the very least presided over an offense that was in the top 10 or so in scoring. The Niners playoff teams under harbaugh had similar offensive splits, and nearly won a super bowl. The biggest flaw in building a team around this identity, was that we were lacked the defense to implement this offense. We were near the bottom of the league in both rushing defense, and takeaways. You can't run a ground and pound offense, when your defense can't get off the field. The 49ers DID have a defense that excelled in both these categories - hence why they were great in an era when passing numbers have exploded. They were confident not turning it over and winning tight games. -
LB Gerald Hodges visiting-Edit: SIGNED!

Kind of why i like zo though - he's done it all and won't complain about his role. -

I still don't like that team until they can run the ball. But that's me -

It also has the minus effect of guaranteeing that money - essentially you can't cut him. I prefer that strategy to in-house guys, because you knwo what you're getting. -
We have one hell of a coaching staff.

Love Mike Wauffle - guy was a maniac on hard knocks. Maybe a little scared straight with a certain fat lazy d-lineman. Club rex is over! Move it tubby! -
HOF player with worst teams in NFL history
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Funny how history pretty much repeated itself with Calvin Johnson. Matt Stafford's gotta be getting frustrated. How good does he have to be to make that team any good? -
What's funny is that usually the "dancing" rb's struggle in zone schemes, but shady has hit the hole hard for the most part. He did struggle in 2016 with negative runs though (https://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/stats/stuff-percentage/2016/). I see dimarco lining up all over the place in this scheme. We lack a real 2nd TE for pass catching purposes, but we can line him up all over the formation as well as like a FB.

All i could think was - if we draft Pat Mahomes... is he going to blindly defend him til the end of time if he stinks? In all honesty though, I thought he was the best of the bunch... but i also don't think tyrod is bad. So what do i know? -

Yeah the team with the 7th rated rushing attack beat the team with the 5th rated rushing attack in the super bowl. Just pass all the time! It works! Ask Kyle Shanahan and Matt Ryan... Also - wasn't he the OC of the team that won the super bowl in 2015? -

They have receivers who excel at turning those passes into yards. We didn't, and still don't. -

How about a little play action?! The shotgun "play-action" is always so easily read. Never seen peterman play. Don't really want to at this point... maybe next year or if people are injured. -
Tyrod will not be handed starting Job
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Tyrod didn't take a paycut ---- We cut him. Draft may play out differently but maybe we still end up with watson or mahomes. And if (when) they stink - the new regime blames whaley. Now at least the new guys pick their guy - and are married to him. That way if (when) they stink - we can blame them! -
Ryan Fitzpatrick Signing with the Bucs
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Man were the Jets smart to low-ball him. Unfortunately the GM/coach who made that smart move, and set the team up for a shot at getting a top QB in the draft, are both very likely fired after this year. -

I'm interested to see what the sack rate looks like in a new offense. And just generally how we intend to use Tyrod's unique skills. He was sacked a lot last year, but the average yards lost weren't particularly high, and the turnovers were very low. We had a lot of half field high-low concepts... if neither guy is open you're coached to hold the ball and take off. Anything but a turnover basically. If we had taken the ball away more last year (like the niners did under harbaugh), and held teams to fewer yards (specifically on the ground) - we would've made the playoffs. -

I look at it like this - Tyrod is the hardest working player on the entire team. I want him to succeed. If he doesn't, he'll have done everything he could to be great. I don't think everyone on this board does - they'd rather be right about him.
