Today's loss was on the Seattle's offense. They just did not get it done. They had Lynch and just like the Bills in SB25, they chose not to give the ball to the right guy when it counted.
And that has been a problem. Marrone was never able to take criticism from the reporters while he was a HC. It shows a poor maturity level that i would have concerns as a HC. I am sure Johnson looked at Marrone not having a thick skin and would have significant issues with media in NYC which is far more vitriol than the Buffalo/Rochester/Syracuse/Toronto media.
Urbik is a Whaley guy. He was picked up from Pittsburgh. And he played well his first season before regressing the past two seasons.
Why not keep CJ
Also possibly Gray is gone? I can't see Rex keeping a Kickoff specialist and a Kicker.
And this is exactly why I hate the media over the past 10-15 years...Mort was so protective of Tom Donahoe and yet TD never received another Front Office Job. Same goes for Schefter. Why can't these folks be honest with their opinions.
Completely agree. The Steelers don't make the post season without the play of Ben, which allowed Bell to have a great season. The Colts don't make the playoffs with their no-name defense without the stellar play of Luck. The Ravens don't make the playoffs without their QBs play late in the season. The only team that was weak on QB play this season was the Cardinals and they are more of an exception than the norm.
Another thought is that Gailey forced the issue by wanting a "Scat Back" and picking Spiller in the 1st round. Between Spiller, Lynch and Freddie, Lynch was going to be the odd man out. The biggest mistake Buddy did was in drafting Spiller.
+1. I think it was more of Whaley having an option to find an even better HC than about bad mouthing Marrone. The guy (Marrone) after all produced the first winning season for the BIlls in almost 10 seasons. That is a pretty big achievement for these underachievers.
Rex's defense is predicated on disguised blitzes. In order to run that scheme effectively, they need a extremely talented secondar. Rex was successful when Revis played along with Cromartie. Do the Bills have equivalent backfield to execute his schemes successfully. Gilmore and Leodis are OK cornerbacks, nothing remotely close to Revis and Cromartie. Pettine had a good defense here because he had Byrd in Center Field and Kiko at the MLB position. In spite of that it was the 28th worst running game.
Schwartz fixed the run-stopping and played some solid defense. How can Rex coach this team to its strength. I almost feel he might try to fit a square peg into a round hole.
We don't need another big FA WR. We have invested 2 1st Rd and a 2nd Rd pick at that position. You have let those two players develop. What we need a big time TE. Chandler is good in the middle of the field, but has no separation in the end zone.
In spite of what Pettine did, his bills defense was still ranked 28th in the league against the Run. Schwartz came in and fixed that. Don't underestimate his influence on this defense.
