  1. Given the complexity of today's NFL Defenses I am of the opinion that all QBs take 2 to 3 seasons minimum to develop. Peyton Manning threw 28 picks his rookie year. Roethlisberger, Ryan, & Flacco were asked to "manage" the game and were asked not to lose it. Anointing Cam Newton or anyone else the savior is simply asking too much. We have too many holes to address then selecting a QB in 2011 with our #3 pick overall. 2012 offers more QBs than 2011 with the addition of one elite QB in Andrew Luck. Additionally guys like Matt Barkley (if he enters early), Stephen Garcia, Kellen Moore, Ryan Lindley, Ryan Tannehill, Brandon Weeden, Terrelle Pryor, Nick Foles will all be there. The build plan should be simple: solidify the NFLs worst rush defense by building the front 7 & knab a real tight end. Mock Draft: 1st Round - Pick #3 Robert Quinn 6'5'' 268 OLB 3-4 or 4-3 DE North Carolina 2nd Round - Pick #35 Kyle Rudolph 6'6'' 260 TE Notre Dame 3rd Round - Pick #67 Jarvis Jenkins 6'4'' 310 DE 3-4 or 4-3 DT Clemson 4th Round - Pick #100 Casey Matthews 6'1'' 232 WILB 3-4 or SILB 3-4 Oregon 4th Round - Pick #107 Sione Fua 6'2'' 307 DT 3-4 or 4-3 DT Stanford 5th Round - Pick #132 Chris Culliver 6'0'' 197 CB South Carolina 6th Round - Pick #164 Tejay Johnson 6'1'' 212 SS TCU 7th Round - Pick #196 Richard Sherman 6'3'' 197 CB Stanford Get depth on the defensive side of the ball. Only other offensive position that I would be fine with is OT.
  2. Cam Newton is pretty good in short yardage....maybe trade for tebow too & run a wishbone with Newton & Tebow both running out of the backfield...
  3. fair enough...I don't agree with bashing somebody and made they had an axe to grind, but Gailey was accused of not conducting scout worthy practices, that's fair game imo...let's just see what improvement Gailey can do in year 2. Remember the bottom teams send their coaching staffs to the senior bowl...if he wins he won't have to go back to mobile. i'd much rather have gailey getting our guys ready for super bowl 46 next year.
  4. Chan Gailey can prove his real coaching worth the next 2 years figuring he'll get 2 more seasons to turn it around.
  5. Couldn't agree with you more Zulu. As long as Cam wins ball games it don't matter. I don't care if my QB is from China and his name is Ed Wang - if he wins games I'm all for it!
  6. I was in the 4th grade guys and I went to the Bills vs. Fish playoff game I believe we won 44-34 and sent Danny Marino home on ice. The next we spanked da Raiders 51-3. While everyone remembers wide right, I never forgot the coulda woulda sack safety of Hostetler...Bruce had Hos's arm, ball in hand in the end zone. If that ball pops out & either Seals or Jeff "Wrong Is" Wright fall on it instead of being up 12 to 3 we woulda been up 17 to 3. Game over no Norwood or last second FG needed. See this YouTube link and go to 5:45 and press play......How did this guy not freaking fumble? Hos must have hands the size of Michael Jordan...If that was Daunte Culpepper we got the TD!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hk_am4gJ16U. Go Bills & maybe just maybe we'll be rebuilt in 5 years in time for the 25th aniversary of Super Bowl XXV!
  7. ReturnoftheBuffaloBeast23 - my intent was to get feedback on Cam & Big Ben, how they compare and contrast. Cam is Cam - I've never seen anyone like him before. I personally think Cam is a combo of a few guys (he has Big Ben's size & toughness, Randall Cunningham's running ability, and Steve McNair's throwing motion). As far as reading coverages right now Cam is a one read guy.
  8. I second this notion. I'd also like to point out the guy needs to setup his blocks instead of outrunning them.
  9. cosey: who are you proposing as an alternative to Fitz? You criticize yet fail to mention one name. Who do you draft? Do you honestly think Palmer is better than Fitz going forward? Or do you think Vince Young actually has his heart & mind set on being a good footballer? I'm all for risk, but no QB in the draft is worth our #3 pick. Let's take a stud Dlinemen take our lumps in '11 and see what Fitz has to offer. If Fitz fails, which you presume, then we can draft a franchise qb next year with a very high draft pick.
  10. definitely worth a look. i'm all for getting another qb in to compete.
  11. Heard on the Scott Van Pelt show the dude sold 14 cars last month and already has a job with another dealership. No biggie, in the end it was a win win for everyone.
  12. Nick Fairley, AJ Green, Patrick Peterson
  13. According to our last game against them 27 points. Had we started Fitz & factoring him into the equation I'd put the difference around 17 points because Edwards is God awful.
  14. Let me start out by saying I hate the idea of drafting Cam Newton. I prefer Fairley, Bowers or Dareus. Understanding that this is a copy cat league and knowing the fact that in 14 days Big Ben could be hoisting his 3rd Lombardi trophy makes me wonder what One Bills Drive is thinking about, in particular our 92 year old "owner". When Ralph announced we need a QB in October this left no doubt in my mind what he wanted to do with his 1st round pick. That said it is widely known that Wilson has a high degree of input on where the Bills go with the first pick. Makes you wonder if Newton is Ralph's guy? There are comparisons that can be made between Big Ben & Cam Newton. Clearly from a size & athletic standpoint - the guys are strikingly similar. Size: Big Ben 6'5'' 241 - 40yd 4.75 - wonderlic 25 - 9 7/8 hands - 32 arm length - 32 vertical - 316 power clean - 410 max bench - 340 bench press Newton 6'6'' 250 - 40yd 4.52 - wonderlic? - 2.8 high school gpa according to rivals.com - 32 vertical high school - 285 max bench College stats: Newton YEAR TEAM CMP ATT PCT YDS AVG TD LNG INT RAT 2010 AUB 185 280 66.1 2854 10.2 30 94 7 182.05 YEAR TEAM ATT YDS AVG LNG TD FD FUM LOST 2010 AUB 264 1473 5.6 71 20 0 0 0 Roethlisberger Season Team GP Cmp Att Cmp% Yds TDs Int YPA Att Yds TDs Avg 2001 Miami (OH)12 241 381 63.3 3,105 21 2 8.1 120 189 3 1.6 2002 Miami (OH)12 271 428 63.3 3,238 22 11 7.6 82 54 1 0.7 2003 Miami (OH)14 342 495 69.1 4,486 37 10 9.1 67 111 3 1.7 Career 38 854 1304 65.5% 10,829 80 23 8.3 269 354 7 1.3 Roethlisberger had a better college career, albeit Newton's 2010 season will go down as one of the best in college football history. What it comes down to is intangibles. Big Ben has long been criticized by his teammates for not being as dedicated to his craft as Brady or Manning. Big Ben has also been very lucky. His motorcycle accident could have ended more seriously and possibly ended his career: think the NBA's Jay Williams. From a legal standpoint Roethlisberger has also been blessed to avoid long entanglements with prosecutors. Cam Newton's troubles have long been documented; however Big Ben's father has never stolen his son’s headlines. On the football field both QB's appear to play a similar game using their feet to extend the play and ultimately make plays with their size and athletic ability. The difference I see is that Big Ben scrambles to find a passing lane always running with his head up looking down field, and pump-faking like crazy to manipulate the defense, and runs for the first down as a last option. When Newton scrambles he tucks the ball and goes for the first down marker and looks to pass second. Newton's running ability almost guarantees a "SPY" linebacker must be dedicated to him, and the pass rush must box him in with the goal of keeping him in the pocket and to funnel him to the spy. Oregon did a good job for the most part of boxing in Newton and giving him limited running room. An NFL defense will only do a better job of containing him and taking away his first instinct. Another interesting bit is that Cam Newton will be working with Big Ben's mentor in the lead up to the draft: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft2011/news/story?id=6051861&campaign=rss&source=NFLHeadlines. No doubt Newton's camp will be making a strong push to compare Big Cam to Big Ben which is better than comparing him to Jamarcus Russell. Curious to hear your thoughts and whose career path you think his will most likely resemble.

  16. I'd rather see that kind of reaction than Dick Jauron's 1000 yard stare. That said, I hated the way Ryan was laughing the last time we played them. I also hate watching Belicheck pug smirk when they are beating the crap out of us. There are 2 goals we should have in 2011: beat New England, & the Jets. I only hope we beat New England so bad we get a similar reaction from Belicheck.
  17. Injuries aside Carson Palmer has been an above average QB in the NFL. The guy has had 6 seasons with over 3,000 yards passing. He has a good completion percentage 62.9% and 154 tds in 97 games & only 100 picks. Fitz doesn't have his track record, but I would be inclined to pass given Fitz is 3 years younger and hasn't had the injuries that Palmer incurred. If this was going down last year I would take him. The NFC West could be greatly improved next year with Vince Young, Kevin Kolb, Donovan McNabb & Carson Palmer likely looking to land out West. Palmer would be a good fit in 'Zona with Fitzgerald & the other receivers they have there. Palmer likely has 4 or 5 good years left and would be statisically near Jim Kelly 35,000 yards passing 235tds by the time he hangs up his cleats.
  18. ARMCHAIR QB, I like your thoughts on Round 1. Nick, Marcell & Da'Quan are solid. Casey Matthews could be gone by round 3, do you use #34 on him? The guy has a lot of admirable qualities and is a playmaker. Casey's strip on Cam Newton in the Natl Champ game was everything the Bills Defense never seems to do. What are you thoughts on Tamba Hali? I say get Chan, Dave, George & Buddy in a room with his agent and don't let them out till a deal is done. With a better DL/DE, ILB, & OLB the Bills immediately will have the depth, skill and personel to dictate to their opponents how they will attack.
  19. The Art of War teaches us a valuable lesson: One defends when his strength is inadequate he attacks when it is abundant. How to rebuild our front 7 and gain Invincibility: Cutting Maybin and not retaining Keith Ellison would be a good start. Torbor & Ayodele & Pierre Woods are not in this rebuild. Resign Poz to man the LILB spot. Figure Poz can be resigned for 4 years at $7 million season $28 total $9 guaranteed. Moats has great potential but his awareness in outside contain needs to be improved. Right now Moats makes for a good 3rd down nickle blitzer or as a hand down DE rusher from the dime formation. With the possibility of adding Nick Fairley or Da'Quan Bowers or Marcell Darius to our front along with Troup, Carrington & Williams would bolster the first line of our defense. This front would not be intimidated nor pushed around by the Jets, and would scare Brady. To address our other needs TE & ILB & OLB: TE - Randy McMichael (SD)- proven veteran with over 4000 yards receiving age 32. has a few decent seasons left so we can determine if shawn nelson can develop in year 3 like stevie johnson & eric moulds did. 2 years $7.5 million $1.5 million guaranteed. Bills completed lowest number of passes to TEs in 2010. LILB, ST & LS - Brandon Siler (SD) - 6'2'' 239. key reserve can serve as backup long snapper age 25. 4 years $10 million $1.5 guaranteed. 3-4 MLB. OLB - Kamerion Wimbley (OAK)- 6'3'' 255 9 sacks age 27. 5 years $50 million, $12 million guaranteed. 4-3 OLB OR OLB - Tamba Hali (KC) - 6'3'' 275 15 sacks age 27. 6 years $88 million, $30 million guaranteed. 3-4 OLB. Not Julius Peppers money but will take a truck load to bring this guy to Blo. This is a simple strategy that would vastly improve our defense. If implemented the Jets won't continue their 4 game rushing average of over 270 yards per game against us. Step 1 - get a rookie stud defensive lineman Step 2 - aggressive target top level outside & inside linebackers Step 3 - turn your weakness into your strength. have key reserves a la: kelsay, merriman, moats, siler, troup, carrington, stroud
  20. What happened? Teams have dominant era's. The Fins had their run with Shula from the 70s to mid 80s. We took the reigns from the late 80s to 90s, then Y2K happened and we've been crap ever since. Honestly the competition caught up. Could you imagine if Payton Manning was still in our division? That's 6 guaranteed losses every season! When we lost Polian, then AJ Smith we lost the brains of our operation. No front office since has proven up to the task. From a coaching perspective they haven't been good enough, and the drafts haven't been either. It's tough to attract difference making FA's who have a choice where they're going to play when you're not a proven winner. The key to our rebuilding is that we actually follow through on the task and address the areas of weakness from the Front Office to the locker room, to the head janitor.
  21. I just awoke from a nightmare....you were doing your best impression of Ralph & Buddy and you made this stupid deal with New England...
  22. This is a terrible deal CornerBlitz! The point value of the #3 pick is 2200 the #17 pick is 950 & the #32 is 590. You don't give up points to gain a draft pick. In fact the only way you make a trade is if you GAIN points. If you work in the Bills front office please quit. Class dismissed children!
  23. is Junior Seau considering unretiring? I'm all for getting anybody who can stuff the run 24/7.
  24. We can beat any Pats team that doesn't feature Tom Brady as their QB. That said is Bernard Pollard available in the '11 FA?
  25. It's spelled Belichick. Anyway clearly Belichick has been exposed as a cheater....He has a career 14-3 career playoff record before 2007, and he is 2-3 post "Spy Gate". I'm pretty sure Belichick also cheated on his wife starting in 2004. And "Tommy Boy" Brady picked up that trait well from his Sith Lord. Dad always said the 3 things you don't want to be in life are a: Liar, Cheater, & Stealer. Belichick seems to fit that MO.
