  1. It's been a tough week for the front office apologists, let's let them have their thread.
  2. These teams know the failure rate of picking a QB high. What fans (still) underestimate is the value of a QB. You aren't winning a Superbowl without one in this era. No stat better illustrates that than this one -- 13 of the last 14 QBs representing the AFC in the big game were named Manning, Brady, or Roethlisberger. Coaches and GM's know their jobs are on the line without one. Owners know that the $160M+ player payroll they are funding isn't ultimately going anywhere. Your ceiling becomes "playoff pretender," and you have to sell that to the fans every year. The "anything can happen in the playoffs" mantra is nothing more than "all you need is a dollar and a dream" nonsense, and I think most fans realize that. If there's a guy there in the top 10 that has a ~25% chance of becoming your guy under center for the next decade, you pull the trigger.
  3. If another team like the Browns or Jets did this, we would all be here laughing at them too.
  4. It really isn't TP's call, he's not going to jump in and start roster building. If you can read between the lines (he just fired almost everyone associated with that trade), I think you'll realize the decision was made a while ago. Bottom line is that Sammy has to stay on the field or it's Bye Felicia.
  5. Kryk's articles are usually pretty good. He's on point and is typically able to criticize the front office without triggering the fans.
  6. Russ Brandon could crash the team plane into the stadium and the Brandonites would still remark, "You know, he was really good at his job."
  7. I think Florio is way off base here. The ideal scenario is to hire a GM and give him complete authority to hire his own coach (this is especially true for new owners as we're seeing first hand). What happened today was necessary, but still backwards.
  8. If Carucci wrote it then you know for sure Whaley is safe and... OH WAIT
  9. Should have been gone in December. /smh
  10. He's going to make a pretty darn good Director of Pro Personnel in his next job, but he's just not cut out to be a GM.
  11. May have to bump my draft grade up a notch Press conference video: http://www.buffalobills.com/video/videos/Sean-McDermott-Contuine-to-Add-Players/ff1417e3-a830-4ce6-ac1b-c89214fd3e86 Jason La Canfora‏Verified account @JasonLaCanfora Follow More Bills scouts and personnel men told to be in the office in the AM where new of GM change could be revealed according to sources Imagine that, a new GM before the Sabres!
  12. Pretty hard to draft a guy like this after you just spent the last 3 months preaching character and discipline. Elway is still good friends with Jim, right?
  13. Now that's a great draft pick.
  14. Checks the character box that we've been hearing about. FWIW.
  15. It's a lot easier to draft starters when you have glaring holes in your lineup. I couldn't envision any possible draft scenario where we didn't get starters at CB and WR. Hope this kid works out, but this feels like a bit of a reach.
  16. OMG that Cowboys announcement was a draft highlight for the ages. WOW
  17. Come on now McD. You're ruining the warm, fuzzy feelings from yesterday's trade.
  18. Yeah I hope this trade up rumor is BS.
  19. I'm surprised Cam Robinson is still out there. Saban said he's the best OL he's ever had at Alabama.
  20. It's difficult for many to get excited by a CB because if they do their job well you generally don't see them on TV. I certainly understand the animosity for replacing a 1st round pick lost in FA with another 1st round pick. But the situation is what it is, and I don't think anyone can argue that CB isn't a position of need. I expect them to take another CB on day 3, and a safety as well.
  21. Right. After four years of working under the modus operandi of instant gratification, Doug "Win Now" Whaley -- with his job seemingly in jeopardy -- does a complete 180 and decides to start building for the future. Sure. I don't know what's more entertaining -- the draft, or the Doug Whaley apologists trying to convince themselves that he's still calling the shots. If somebody wants to set the odds on how many times we hear the word "collaborative" in the next month, I would like to bet the over.
