I don't think this is a very good take and I hope no one tries to add a revisionist spin on Marrone's tenure. He was void of talent? Really because while he was focused on offense, he had two of the best defenses we've had in recent memory. He had the team ready? Really because all they needed to do was beat the 3-13 Raiders with a rookie QB to have a shot at the playoffs and they were awful. He singlehandedly ruined our 2-2 1st round QB's chance of developing so that he could selfishly play Kyle Orton to a game above .500.

What the !@#$ has David Lee done in his career??
fridge replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, I wasn't excited about a lot of Rex's staff hires, ANthony Lynn included. It seems like he talks about these guys like they're all great and it's like...Rex, come on buddy, you're poaching them from your awful Jets team. I remember reading about David Lee a bunch in his first time around and getting excited. When you really break it down, he's been apart of really no QB development or teams of note. I guess you could say Romo, but is Romo that great? How many playoff wins does he have? He strikes me as an unorthodox styled QB anyways. He makes stuff happen on broken plays and has good instincts, so I'm not sure what gets attributed to David Lee there. -
Have any hoodie disciples panned out as head coaches?

Russ? Is that you?

Buffalo Bills Fire Offensive Coordinator Greg Roman

See: Schonert, Turk. (days before the season even began) Edit: I should add that we were absolutely terrible in 2009. -
Firing the OC is an obvious scapegoat move. Last year he blamed the injuries. I expect he will come week 8 this year as well. Rex is scared, as he should be. He's been largely unprepared since he arrived on the scene. We smashed the Jets consistently towards the end of his tenure there, so I'm not sure why some of you expected him to come in and do anything other than what you see.

Buffalo Bills Fire Offensive Coordinator Greg Roman

I gotta say, this is one of the most transparent scapegoat firings in recent memory. Honestly, had they done this after week 1, few would argue...but after letting Fitzpatrick hang 37 points on you...seems pretty obvious Rex is scared. I'd expect the blame game to continue as the losses pile on. -

what's the record? -
100% This.

You just know we're talking about a great asset when the nicest thing anyone can say about the guy is that he "NEVER made a unilateral personnel decision." Look, as many have pointed out, why is he in on these decisions at all? We've treaded water, or worse "throughout his entire tenure". Let's bring in some new blood. It's obvious to so many of us that Russ's time here represents the worst period in team history. He's hardly the silent saint sitting in the back of the room that you paint him to be.
-
Is there any truth to this? Did he expand the fan base, or did he just say that he did?
-
Is that guy we hired from Xerox still with us? Honest question.
-
You didn't even list one thing. We're waiting.
-
You honestly believe this? Hiring the head coach has no relation to the product on the field?
-
No, actually I changed it because I removed some numbers from the list at the top and what I had initially typed down there had no longer applied. I was typing too quick and being a bit sloppy. I really do not agree with you, and sadly, you've considered my opinion disjointed. It's possible that Brandon will be in charge of the organization for many more years to come, and I fully expect more losing. I like to use his involvement in football decisions as an example of pure hypocrisy. He had stated on numerous occasions that he was removing himself from the football side of things. He also promised an analytics department and moved the team to play a game in Toronto. He's all over the place, and will always say each move is done with winning in mind. If that's the case, well he should be fired. Not a single decision he has made has resulted in success on the field.
-
I'm going to make this perfectly clear because you're being purposefully obtuse... I do not think for one second that Russ Brandon is the guy making the final 53. I think that he has input because he's in the room AND DISCUSSING the roster on a daily basis. I really don't know what influence he has. None of us do. I did not say nor suggest that he signed Glenn Gronkowsi. I simply am saying he's involved in the decision. That could be anywhere on a sliding scale from, 1. Literally bringing Glenn Gronkowski's player card out on the table, slamming it down and saying, "I gotta have this guy!" 2. Secretly thinking Gronkowski being a Buffalo guy is a good marketing move and therefore constantly bringing his name up 3. Being pretty high on Gronkowski, and openly suggesting we could sign him 4. Being pretty high on Gronkowski, and subtly suggesting we could sign him 5. Being pretty high on Gronkowski, and being overly receptive to the idea when it's brought up by someone else 6. Being pretty high on Gronkowski, and only nodding encouragingly when his name gets brought up 7. Having absolutely no opinion on Gronkowski, but once informed of the team's interest to sign him, merely suggests that his acquisition could be a nice story 8. Having absolutely no opinion on Gronkowski, but once informed of his signing, merely suggests that his acquisition could be a nice story 9. Having absolutely no opinion on Gronkowski, and due to his role in the organization simply agrees with the scouts, coaching staff, and GM on all roster decisions You seem to think I assume Russ Brandon is going full-on DEFCON 1 from the list above. I think it's probably closer to 4-7. Ideally on the influence spectrum, I'd like my team president to live in 8 or 9.
-
Yeah, what could it be?
-
Yes, he may be the President, but he's more like the common man. Russ Brandon can make phone calls, too! (On a serious note, I completely agree that it's weird for him to be doing any of that, but be careful - Bandit is about to explain that it's how they do it in Seattle, so it's ok)
-
You had a different opinion, obviously.
-
-
Why though? What a slippery slope. Just axe him. Selfishly, you should want him gone. His business acumen (This is no slight on the degree, but the St. Johns Fisher alum is hardly the next Elon Musk, btw) is something I'm willing to part with to GUARANTEE that there's no football influence coming from Mr. Brandon.
-
Okay, you do realize that you're over simplifying my point there, right? When asked who was there at final roster cut downs, Rex said it was Rex, Whaley and Russ. According to your only approved dissenting opinion with a twist of salience, Coach Tuesday's post mentions the misleading operations as one of his main reasons. This is that. It's misleading. One day, "Hi Russ Brandon has nothing to do with football operations", next day, "Russ was one of the final 3 people making cuts". The point, the only point or argument (I see you conveniently ignored my longer post in the thread where I really explain why it's nonsense for Bills fans to even want this guy around) is that it's not the best way to run the team. If he wants to let the football guys be football guys and mean it, then he has to just accept all of their decisions. You really think he's just sitting there silently waiting for his chance to call the guy and tell him he's on the team? And don't mention the Seattle guy again, please. There's an exception to every rule. Sadly, Russ is not very exceptional, is he (See: Losses, 16 consecutive years of)?
-
Why do we need to get out in the weeds so far when it comes to this? I'm not sure why Coach Tuesday thinks we need to bring in a Czar, but do you really think that we'd be better without an outside person consulting the organization? Someone with experience to step in briefly, analyze our operations, and determine how it could be run more efficiently? My gut would tell me that the top of their clean-up list would be, "Get the marketing turd out of your UDFA signing meetings or you'll wind up with Rob Gronkowski's midget brother on your starting line-up".

Well said. You nailed what I was trying to say in just two short, sweet sentences.
