Public Policy Polling? Point to Point Protocol? Princess Protection Program? Seen that acronym here before but honestly don't know what it is. -
Eight reasons why Mario was a bad signing
Just in Atlanta replied to Just in Atlanta's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know many church folk who don't drink but like to shoot the living **** out of animals in the woods. I wouldn't call them barbarians at all. I personally prefer a barbarian who likes to tear it up on a Saturday night, not make deer jerky in his dehydrator. -
After intense jubilation due to our epic signing of Mario Williams, I think sober analysis is needed here. Hence, eight reasons why Mario was a bad signing: 8. He's not THE answer. I'm just as excited as anyone that a lowly city like Buffalo got someone as dynamic as Mario, but he alone isn't going to win games for us. Can he throw the ball? Or catch it? What about playing guard? Can he cover wide receivers? Nope, didn't think so. 7. His work ethic is lacking. Last year, after wimping out due to a sore chest muscle, Mario got only five sacks in the five games he played in. Really?! He couldn't get more sacks than Dareus--a rookie--who got 5.5 in 16 games? And how much more is Mario getting paid than Dareus? 6. He won't gel with other players. Chemistry wins titles, not individuals. Mario, I hear, is a Republican. Dareus is a staunch Democrat. K. Williams, a Libertarian. I don't see these political odd couples gelling here, Bills fans. 5. He's not nasty enough. All the great DEs have criminal records or personal demons. Alonzo Spellman. Lawrence Taylor. Leonard Little. Ray Lewis. Even Bruce Smith struggled a little with the bottle. Apparently, Mario has no run-ins with the law or any vices. Sorry, I want a barbarian rushing Tom Brady, not a teetotaling choir boy. 4. He has no social life. I just read a story in the Houston Chron and the reporter said Mario never even went to an Astros or Rockets game! Seriously?! Maybe that's why, when asked why he chose Buffalo, he said "I don't care about extracurricular crap." Great, now we have a football player who only likes to play football, think about playing football and kill deer. Doesn't seem like a very balanced individual if you ask me. 3. He likes to shoot animals. Speaking of killing deer, my NPR-listening, Volvo-driving friend tells me anyone who hunts for sport is lacking in IQ and has latent homicidal feelings. Does that sound like the kind of DE we want in Buffalo? 2. He raised the salary bar too high. Everyone is saying junk like "Now free agents are going to WANT to come to Buffalo." OK, fine. But they're also going to want like $100 million. So we probably won't EVER sign a free agent again. Great. And the No. 1 reason why Mario was a bad signing... 1. He just bankrupted Mr. Wilson. Remember that vision of free agent wide receivers jumping in our heads? Nix just called Alvin Harper, according to this report. Couldn't even afford him. Thanks, Mario!

Ha. Not to mention all the baby mamas. The guy is like Evander Holyfield. Only with an intact ear. And without any money. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/missing-child-support-could-land-terrell-owens-jail-165513889.html Having said that, I think he still has it and should try out. I'd welcome him back.

I would say OT, but I saw a report on ESPN that the second best OT, Riley Reiff, is more of a project player, and the the first one, Kalil, will be drafted really high. As I see maybe only 4 UGA games and about as many bowl games a year, and have no intelligent analysis, I am going by that. So I say we draft WR. Witholding the name as requested. BPA is a good strategy when you don't have gaping holes or are just starting your rebuilding. We have gaping holes at OT and WR, and are as many holes away from playoff contention. If we pick a WR in FA, I'd go with the BPA. Otherwise, we need a WR, and not a late-rounder either.

You are not stupid. But your idea is. Maybin didn't do jack here. Evans' career is over. No desire anymore to have a guy who does nothing but fly routes and decoying. Never really thought about TO until I saw some of these posts. I think he would be a quality No. 2 here, actually, and he would come cheap, and fill seats. Yeah, why not give TO a tryout?

Don't worry about ESPN and NFL network. We're the second smallest market in the NFL and haven't made the playoffs in 12 years. We'll get our props when we start kicking ass--all year long, not just for half a year--and actually playing in January.

Thanks! Mario was a great prescription. Also helps with steroids, antibiotics and codeine-enhanced cough syrup. -

Getting an Xray of my lungs. Pneumonia and bronchitis. -
See your point, but I stand by my point. Maybe Kelsay can learn right DE. Maybe someone else can fill in. We don't need pass rush help in the first two rounds when we have glaring needs at OT and WR.

I hate to overstate things, but I think we just did build our D yesterday. Mario is that big. Our D line / linebackers were below average, our CBs were average, our safeties were above-average. Having one of the best D lines in the league, if not THE best, improves our entire defense and takes pressure of our offense. If Buddy is true to what he said, we aren't signing any more FAs. I say draft offense in the first two rounds. We desperately need an OT and No. 2 WR. Our pass rush / run D will be stellar. No need to improve on stellar, IMO, at least not high in the draft.

No thanks to Meacham, anybody notice that?

I can't believe I'm saying this. But the only way I'd ever say this is if we had just signed a killer DE. Since we just did--I thought we were going to sign V. Jackson--and since Buddy alluded that we weren't going to sign any more FAs, let's draft a WR in the first. I know the good teams don't generally do this--NE, Pitt, GB--but we need a big-time receiver to compliment Gailey's spread system. Floyd could fit. Hell, Blackmon might be available with so many WR FAs on the market. Then, maybe OT in the second, OLB in the third, CB in the fourth. I know we're a bit weak at CB but with a solid D line, that should take a lot of pressure off the secondary. I would normally say draft an OT in the first, but the only legit 1st round one, from what I've seen, will be taken. That should plug some holes already. Still can't believe we got Mario! -

I hope his negotiation endurance is as good as his on-field endurance is. -

Inside sources tell me Mario is staying in Buffalo another night to sleep on it. Just kidding. Have a feeling it's about to get done soon. Course, that's what I felt yesterday at this time. -

Did Bud Adams borrow Buddy Nix' leather barn coat? Ralph IS cheap. Can't even buy his GM a jacket. -

ESPN's Adam Schefter just said Mario has not secured any plans to meet with other teams yet and is still meeting with brass. He corrected what's her name, who said Mario had left Buffalo. -

The Bills need to get some word out. If not, I propose a class action for pain and suffering. Any lawyers out there? -

If he leaves without signing, he needs to take the bus to Chicago. Gotta believe that much time at OBD was not for naught, though. Let's hope the other alleged visits are merely formalities. -
