  1. Okay. But the cap will go up regardless. If we just pay our guys this year, that would maximize our cap space in 2019 and beyond. I would still release Tyrod because we can't have him lingering around as we try to move on. But other than that I wouldn't restructure anyone.
  2. I understand. Still, even if you only restructure guys you plan to keep, while they will be cheaper this year, they will be more expensive towards the cap in the other years.
  3. Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that while restructuring contracts frees up cap room this year, it pushes those costs onto subsequent years. Beane has voiced opposition to this tactic several times, even using the phrase "kicking the can down the road." It sounds like one of his major goals has been to fix the teams' cap situation by paying out our expensive contracts as soon as possible. 2018 would be a prime year to do that.
  4. Peterman was "brought in" because he was the next highest player on their draft board when that pick came up. As with any 5th round pick he had positive and negative qualities. They are not committed to him in any way. He's a low risk, moderate reward investment. At the time he was drafted, they most likely viewed him as having a 25% chance to develop into a competent backup. 5% chance to develop into a competent starter. 70% chance to completely bust. Bad odds but whatever, it's the 5th round. The concept that I think a lot of people are struggling to comprehend is that those odds haven't changed very much even after what we saw this season. He struggled in extremely brief appearances as a rookie on a poorly schemed offense, which was expected. So it doesn't move the needle. They'll keep him around but they won't gift him anything. If he develops into something useful, great. If not, doesn't matter.
  5. What a nightmare. One of the worst possible uses of 21+22.
  6. Hate pundits suddenly mocking so many interior OL to the Bills on account of the Wood situation. As if rational FOs are really that reactionary and wouldn't have other contingencies to explore. So lazy. Worst part is that I bet they think to themselves that it makes them look insightful and informed.
  7. People will clamor for QB, but unless we trade up, we're not getting Rosen, Mayfield, or Darnold. Jackson and Rudolph are flawed table scraps, and we should resist feeling pressured to take them at 21. Do not draft Allen under any circumstances. Lauletta and White are interesting ideas in the 2nd or 3rd round. Trading a 4th to Cleveland for Kizer after they get their guy at #1 would be an efficient buy-low. Anyway, assuming no trade up, DT/DT is a fine idea. It's our biggest non-QB need by far. Dareus traded, Kyle old/maybe retiring. Rest of the unit were all graded outside the top-100 DTs in the league. It's a ghastly situation. We absolutely need to bring in multiple guys whether it's through draft, trade, FA, or a combination.
  8. Kudos on the effort to set this up, but unfortunately these metrics are too limited and the thresholds are too arbitrary. Evaluators broadly agree that Allen, while having some potential, also has an insane amount of red flags. Probably the most bust-worrisome prospect in years. So I would view any analysis that casts him as the relatively safe option as fairly suspect.
  9. DT/DT will stir the pot but is fine. Can't argue with the need. I think you're going overboard with the interior OL though. Wood retiring won't make that big a difference. Groy is good. Hernandez is probably gone in the 2nd round anyway. Not sure if we'll get your specific RB but there are an assload of RBs this year. Getting one in the 4th or 5th round will be a good idea.
  10. Strongly disagree. DT/DT at 21/22 isn't a bad idea at all. Dareus traded, Kyle old/retiring, rest of the guys are all graded outside the top-100 in the league. It would actually be a very Carolina-esque thing to do. Wouldn't be surprised at all. And "Weak armed project QB" is a slanderous description of Lauletta. His arm is fine. He also happens to be accurate and intelligent and throws with great anticipation. On many lists he will climb over the flawed table scraps (Jackson, Rudolph) that Bills fans have been debating picking at 21. He would be an excellent 2nd round pick if we don't manage to trade up to the top-5 for Rosen/Darnold/Mayfield. Sorry to say this is one of the worst posts I've ever seen from you.
  11. You're the one that's having difficulty understanding. This isn't a resume comparison. The fact that Fournette played more games or had more total stats this season is meaningless in the context of a debate over whether he or Cook or any other RB is superior and would be the preferable RB to own going forward in a vacuum. This is not a debate over who had the better 2017 season. It's not like 4 NFL games are the only thing we have to go on. College career still plays a huge factor in projecting such young players going forward. For incoming rookies, it's the only thing to go on, and it's plenty. That's how we can have a debate right now on, for example, whether Saquon Barkley might or might not be better than Alvin Kamara or Lesean McCoy. Or yes, whether or not Guice might or might not be better than Fournette. I'm not sure where you're getting your information on that, btw. Guice is 2.5 years younger than Fournette, and was legitimately the better RB when they were on the same team two years ago, and had a great year this year. Based on Fournette's poor receiving skills, I'd give Guice better than 50/50 odds to be the better NFL player.
  12. Why would the fact that he played four games be a factor in whether or not someone thinks he is better? For example almost everyone thinks that Saquon Barkley is better. And he's played zero NFL games. This isn't the same as arguing over who has the greater resume.
  13. Cook played great. Fournette logged a season as a league average starting RB.
  14. Who would you take going forward, Deshone Kizer or Desean Watson?
  15. Fournette did not "lead" his team anywhere. He's marginally better than Yeldon. Not even a top-3 RB in his own draft class (Kamara, Hunt, Cook), let alone a top-10 RB in the league as some people seem to think. Jacksonville's defense carried them to the AFCCG. Drafting Fournette instead of a QB was a catastrophic mistake that is currently being masked by one season of unsustainable success. Just imagining the state their franchise would be in with Watson or Mahomes instead of Fournette should make Jaguar fans cry.
  16. You know I'm all for drafting a QB this year. But if anything this year's crop of semifinalists proves the opposite of what everyone has been saying about needing an elite QB. The Jaguars, Vikings, and Eagles just won at least one playoff game with Bortles, Keenum, and Foles, respectively. Other semifinalist is obviously the Pats, but having the best QB/Coach combo is basically an uncopiable blueprint.
  17. ND has obviously improved significantly over last year as well.
  18. Dremont Jones is a name I've seen quite a bit. Seems like a good need/value match. No thanks on the Alabama RB.
  19. 1. DT - Kyle should retire soon, Dareus traded, neither were getting much interior pass rush anyway. Should probably draft two of these, TBH. 2. LB - Lorenzo should retire soon. Humber and Milano are nice but we really shoudn't continue to try and get away with so little investment in this position. 3. G - Richie should retire soon. Our running game hasn't been able to do much vs good defenses this year, anyway. 4. OT - See above. 5. QB - Tyrod is under contract next year and is doing fine, but I'm still sure that the regime views him as an interim. 6. RB - McCoy backup/heir. 7. CB? - Depends on in Gaines is resigned. 8. WR? - Depends on if Matthews is resigned. 9. TE? - Depends on how they view Clay's health going forward.
  20. Fair deal for both sides. Very Beane-like from the Dolphins. Should help us beat them this year, so that's nice.
  21. Strange mentality. There has never been any evidence that Watkins represented a huge delta in terms of expected wins. Every team that doesn't have an elite franchise QB is forced to build "this way." But in any case, we haven't yet begun to see how the new regime will build the team. We aren't supposed to be good yet. This year was supposed to be about scheme/culture installation, resource accumulation, and self-scouting to determine how best to use said resources. McD & co. have the team playing well several years ahead of schedule. Darn...
  22. Tyrod played great for sure. Was really impressed with him staying in the pocket and delivering. Scrambling to buy time to pass, not looking to run hardly at all. He's looking really comfortable back there. Very proud of him. Genuinely shocked about Mills. Sometimes he plays so bad. Last year he was one of the primary whipping boys. Not even sure how to explain it. Very pleased with Milano as well. Very low expectations for a smallish late-round LB. He's stepping right up. We didn't have any sacks, but Carr had a lot to do with that. Lowest TTP in the league, I think. DBs held the line for sure. White is still on track for DROY.
  23. Kelly failed because the NFL figured out his absurdly simple offensive scheme.
