Why did Gregg Williams fail as a Head Coach?
Mango replied to JetsFan20's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He is a very good defensive coach. Almost always solid. 1. They also play dirty. 2. He is a total POS. Because of 1 and 2 he can’t be in charge because he loses the roster quickly. Also because of 1 and 2, he needs the right HC to control that. -
I agree, we just need to shorten the swing of the pendulum with Josh I think. With about 9 minutes left he was 9/21 and 66 yards. 15 of those came on the Diggs pass at the end of the first half with the defense giving up a free pass to keep us out of TD range. It was almost a major clunker. After some quick mathing, it is why I thought ending the year at 63% was both a fair estimate and a good pass/fail line. We would have to have a number of games with some real fall out to hit that mark assuming that the greatest frequency of games fall in the 62-65% range from here on out and 1 or 2 more pushing the upper 60's.
-
This is where I am at. To get to 63% on the year the math breaks down to about 60% completion percentage from here on out. That should be doable. I imagine a few more clunkers but hopefully some more great games from him. As has been the criticism, he needs to find more consistency. If he gets much below 63% it most likely means he tallied more clunkers than we’d like. I still think the under on 65% is safe but I don’t think he regresses that much this season.

Time for the Bills to assert themselves on offense again

But what if it is against an NFC team? -
Bills personnel moves - Who has more say?
Mango replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the same thing. McD was hired first. Beane brought in second. McD was extended, Beane has not been yet. They work in tandem, but I agree, McD is captain of this ship. That doesn’t mean Beane doesn’t have a sense of autonomy on certain things, FA’s, scouting, etc. -
We don't need to do anything but get a W. But it would be really helpful to be dominant in some facet of the offense or defense (if that is even possible). The team needs to gain some swagger back somewhere in their game, doesn't matter where it is. We need to either dominate the Jets either on defense, with the run, or (most likely) through the air to gain some momentum back into the locker room. If the score is 24-10, so be it. A few days away from the game, I feel like a 21-20 might as well be a 24-20 loss though. Based on the last two games, if the Jets play us tight, we are in trouble heading into NE and SEA. Did we reschedule again, or do you mean like against our "defense"

It is time to come home oh bearded one. I just want this guy back in Buffalo, not to replace Josh. -
The Maddening Mystery of McDermott's Disappearing Defense
Mango replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I mean it is not a huge mystery. We haven't gotten great production out of our draft picks (yet) and we have done a pretty terrible job in FA in deciding who to let walk at what cost, and who to bring in at what cost. -
Can we stop the complaining? it is what it is!
Mango replied to PUNT750's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't know why, but your thread title made me think of this thing my SO does all the time. Complaints that are just words and no substance. I am a believer that once you put that out into the universe, you can't take it back and it just makes the situation worse. Like: "Mango, the dog is barking in the crate" a couple times in a row....."YES I KNOW! Sometimes she barks for 5 -10 minutes when we put her in. I just put her in. You know this and mentioning it over and over again does literally zero good other than make me more annoyed that 1. the dog is barking and now 2. You just keeping saying "Mango, the dog keeps barking" every 45 seconds. Please bring something to the table other than whatever this moment is" That actually happened (again) yesterday, so thanks for getting that off my chest... Deep breaths, back to football...complaints are fine. My SO would stand next to McD and keep reminding him that KC is running all over him. That is really bad. I think this board may have been knee jerk in the calling for the firing of Beane, Frazier, McD at week 6 and 4-2. But most of the commentary has been productive. How did we get here and how do we get out. I do have some concerns about how we fix DT, DE, MLB, CB2, and NCB in one offseason given the money and picks we have already spent on DT, DE, CB2, and MLB. And we are expected to let Milano walk, so we need to replace him. There does not seem to be enough draft picks or money at the moment to do that. -
Holes all over the team last night and people are raging about a 52 yarder at half time.
-
You nailed it in the last paragraph. That’s my concern at the moment. I don’t think a big bodied WR or TE is the make all solution here. Sure it’s a great upgrade, but Josh is second in the league in red zone TD’s at the moment. That isn’t the issue. Our group is a great one to have. As is the NFL in 2020, this offense will go as the QB goes. If Josh plays well we will win, if he doesn’t we will lose. It’s that simple on that side of the ball right now. Totallt agree with your concerns regarding RB and run blocking. Throw the front 7 and CB2 play into the mix as well.

I have been watching this thread for a bit now. I think it is knee jerk. At worst McD has done “well enough” to this point. If you want to say coaching cost us this and the Titans game. OK I won’t argue, but we are too soon to be heading down this path. My larger concern is McBeane and talent evaluation. I think we all pretty much consider Bean and McD a unit so blame goes to both. - CB2 has been bad for at least two seasons now. Their answer was a flyer on Norman and EJ Gaines who was bound to get injured. Also...Levi Wallace is still not good enough. - LB depth was an issue. It still is. - DL is a mess. They let some OK talent walk with lesser replacements and spent a bunch of money on them. -Edmunds, Oliver, and Epeneza have yet to wow me. -They chose two slow running backs that have not been effective sharing the load or taking on the role of lead back. - Do we have Yeldon locked in a basement somewhere? Is this a Tom Cruise/Katie Holmes situation?
-
Recently Beasley has been a part of the super secret playbook that we refuse to use. This playbook contains all plays designed for Yeldon/his pads, Jersey, cleats, etc, slants, and the rest of the plays for McKenzie.

It is an interesting thought though. I “feel” like when Allen starts rough he rarely gets into a groove. But unsure if it fits in the “real” category. If this were peak pandemic and I wasn’t getting ruined at work I would go back and check out first 5, 10, series passes and see what the W/L or overall stat line is. Too bad I am so far away from retirement or this is how I would spend my days. Haha

Or you just enter the Fitz cycle and Tua is now destined to be pulled or injured. The cycle must complete itself, Tua is toast, another victim waiting in the wings. -
Hypothetically, what if Mitch Morse didn't jump off sides at the top of the 4th quarter on that terrible 4th and 1 call and we turned the ball over on downs at our own 30, effectively ending the game entirely. I have been upset with the defense this year as much as anybody. I have been weary of them after every game. But interesting that IF the defense created 2 turnovers against the Chiefs on a day where the offense was anemic, you would come away feeling iffy about the defense. If anything I think it would have shown they were finally being opportunistic. None of this happened of course, this is just a fairy tale so we are fake arguing about a thing that never existed.... as people do on the internet.

It is not just that we are 4-2, we could be happy with 4-2, it is the way we have played two weeks in a row. The last two games looked closer to the 2018 team than they did the first 4 weeks of 2020. That is the big concern for everybody.
-
Moss and Singletary are kind of the same, both could be a compliment to somebody else. Neither are a workhorse back that should get 50%+ of the carries.
-
Yes, they do. They have won more games and have a better point differential. That is sort of what this thread is about... The Phins are a bad reference. The Bills were losing that game in Q4. Also the Raiders were only down by a score before they fumbled the ball in Q4. These aren’t really garbage time TDS.
-
The packers just lost by 28 and still have a 35 pt swing on buffalo.
-
Part of that TOP is on the offense. Would be great if the D gave it back to them, but they didn’t. The staff was trying to get Josh going and he just couldn’t tonight. The 2 punts that @billsfan89 are s thinking of is because they punted like 30 seconds into the 4th...after absolutely dodging a bullet with an Offside call after not converting a 4th and 1. We would have lost the game right there if not for that flag. The way I look at this game when trying to figure out what went wrong is two things. 1. How often will scoring 17 points beat Mahomes and the KC Chiefs? -Literally never. At least not to date. Mahomes has only score less than 20 points once in his NFL career. That was 2019 against the Colts. 2. Which NFL defense can hold Mahomes to 16 points? - To date, mone of them. And right now, nobody in the NFL is playing strong enough defense that I would put any money on it in 2020. So if no team has held Mahomes to 16, and scoring 17 is never good enough, why are we putting so much blame on a defense that kept us in the game most of the night? Don’t get me wrong the defense has been down right terrible this year. I am concerned. But they would have needed a relatively historical night to make up for the offense. Something they haven’t proven capable of in a while.

a few thoughts about the Chiefs game, in no particular order
Mango replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We had all game and scored a whopping 17 points all game long. ...But sure, if the kicker had made a 52 yarder 30 minutes earlier, then, with 2 minutes to go, after struggling mightily to put together something that might be confused with an NFL offense, we would have pulled out the super special play book and scored a TD. There, I took the “stats” out for you. -

What about that field goal? That one field goal? At half time? What a weird thing to harp on given every other thing that happened out there today. We were nearly halfway through the 4th quarter before we completed 10 passes or had 100 yards. Playing what if on a rookie kicker on a rainy day, with an entire rest of the half to play is silly. Also, his last kickoff he popped that up for the coverage team to drop the return inside the 20. ST was of zero concern today. -
Anybody else concerned that the Bills are currently 20th in point differential with -12 at the moment? And not for the first time. We have had a negative point differential in 2017 and 2018 as well. There are currently 3 teams with winning records and a negative differential. LV, CLE, and BUF. There are no teams below .500 with a positive differential. 12 is fixable. Even as early as next week. But something to keep an eye on with a ton of football to play. We aren’t in great company at the moment. LV is at -1 which will be back in the green if they beat the Bucs. Cleveland feels like a paper tiger. Like the Bills the food have one big loss screwing with the numbers. Playoff Teams with Negative Differential 2019- Houston (-7) 10-6: Lose by 20 to the Chiefs in the Divisional round. 2017- Buffalo (-57) 9-7: Lose in one of the most boring playoff match ups in history to the Jags. - Titans (-22) 9-7: Lose to Pats by 21 in the Divisional round. 2016- Lions (-12) 9-7: Lose by 20 in the Divisional. - Dolphins (-17) 10-6: Lose by 18 in the WC. - Texans (-45) 9-7: Lose by 18 to the Pats in the Divisional. 2014- Panthers (-35) 7-8-1: Beat a Ryan Lindsey lead Arizona team in the WC. Lost by 14 to the Seahawks. 2013- Packers (-11) 8-7-1: Lost by 3 to the 49ers in the WC. 2012- Colts (-30) 11-5: Lost by 15 in the WC to Baltimore. 2011- Giants (-7) 9-7: Won the SB beating the Pats...again. - Broncos (-81) 8-8: Tim Tebow. Beat the Steelers in the WC. Lost to Pats by 35 in the Divisional. 2010- Seahawks (-97) 7-9: Beat the Saints in the WC. Lost to the Bears by 11 in the Divisional.
