Beane and McDermott interviews from Combine
Happy replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What was Daboll's side of the conversation? That he didn't have 11 all-pros and therefore couldn't produce a quality offense? -
are they paid $15M/year? Probably not. I can't go through all of them, but I'll give a few examples of better LTs - Tyron Smith of Dallas and Eric Fisher. Smith is at $13.5M/year and Fisher is at $14.5M/year. I would put both ahead of Dawkins, though they make in the ball park to slightly less than what Dawkins would make at $15M. Everyone whiffs, just Dawkins misses blocks and commits penalties at some inopportune times.

Where Bills park Ford in 2020 dependent on FA/Draft
Happy replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If McD and Beane have a problem allocating too many funds to a particular position group, they may want to reconsider that view with regards to the lines. They should allocate a larger percentage of cap space to both the offensive and defensive lines. Games are won and lost in the trenches, not in the defensive backfield or WRs. Your franchise QB will get a good portion of the cap, and so should both lines. -

The money is there for a RT bought in FA. I don't see why that would be a hesitation as Ford was pretty close to being a turnstile. -
I think this is what it comes down to. Is Dawkins worth $15M/year? In my opinion, not right now. I think he's slightly above average and certainly not in the top 10 in league LTs. He's been improving, but still whiffs and gets beat badly; at the least, he wasn't the worst problem on the line. So until someone better comes along, Dawkins will get paid and be a bit overpaid.

I'm not a big mach drafter, but isn't Mel Kiper, Jr usually wrong?

Jaguars to decline DT Marcell Dareus' option
Happy replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That he still wants to play...again. Not realistic and I don't think it will happen, at least not in Buffalo. -

I wish it could work out that Marcel could come back, though don't see it happening. He won't want to come back on a small, 'prove it' contract and I don't think McDermott would want him back. -
I believe Kurt Cobain and Nirvana killed Hair Metal/Glam rock. The hair metal bands really started going away after 1991, by 1994 their heyday was over. Nirvana, along with Pearl Jam (who I can't stand) did usher in grunge. My biggest problem with grunge was it was just a fad and short-lived, leaving a void that was filled by hard core rap, which I hate more than Pearl Jam.

i'd rather the NFL stop tinkering with what made it great. But if they absolutely must do a 17 game schedule, this is an excellent suggestion.
-
Then he can move along to another team that is dumb enough to give him a big contract. I'd pass on Norman since we have some good, young talent and it really isn't a position of need.

Safety Kyle Drugger With Bills First Round Pick?
Happy replied to ChevyVanMiller's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No safeties. We need a WR and an Edge rusher. -
Which is...?

I'm just going by what I saw from what is typically a good source. If there is a better site for dead/cap hits, feel free to link it.
-
Are you sure about his dead cap hit after 2020? I'm pretty sure I remember seeing a potential out note in spotrac for after the 2020 season, and thinking that Star will be a Bill in 2020 because it would have been prohibitive to cut him after the 2019 season. The restructure guarantees Star's spot in 2021 with much lower cash and cap to the team in 2020 and somewhat lower in 2021. Beane and McD committed to Star next season (2021) by doing the restructure.

We'll see. Harrison isn't really built like a 1-tech, though, so I'm a little leery he can fulfill that role. It was too bad he got injured early in the season.
-
Not so sure I agree with all of this. My guess is that the brain trust doesn't want to address the 1-tech position at this time - maybe there is no FA or rookie in the draft that they're interested in right now. So they stick to what they are comfortable with, and in the mean time we can only hope Corey Liuget or Vince Taylor steps up and takes rotation time away from Star. My impression is that Star is supposed to be a space eater who stops the run. There were a number of games where he failed to do this - Philly, first Miami game, Cleveland come to mind. He doesn't usually occupy two linemen, in fact one usually has no problem pushing him out of the run lane. It isn't a weird grudge...really. You look at teams with great defensive lines, like SF, and Star wouldn't be a starter or see much in the way of game time rotation. Sounds like you think the Bills should be looking for an upgrade...I agree.

If you think Star is an above average 1-tech, I don't know what to tell you.

Jordan Reed- 6 months in concussion protocol
Happy replied to Dablitzkrieg's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Released by the Redskins today. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001102578/article/redskins-part-ways-with-veteran-te-jordan-reed -
Interestingly, your post prompted me to look at Spotrac again to see Star's dead cap hit. Prior to the restructure, 2021 was a potential out with a dead cap hit of around $2.1M, IIRC. With the restructure, his dead cap hit is $7.7M in 2021, so Star is most likely here until 2022 (dead cap $2.6M), where he becomes a UFA in 2023; Beane committed to Star for another year, at least. McD and Beane seem to really like Star.
-
Lions taking a $5M dead cap hit, not a good sign. Snacks will be 31 this season, so still some gas left in the tank, age-wise.
-
I voted Allen and Oliver. I believe the ceiling is very high for Allen and Oliver will be a monster for opposing teams at the 3-tech. Really wish we could move Edmunds to OLB, but that won't happen. Wish I could have voted for Ford, but I'm not confident in him at all, he could end up being a big whiff.

One "drought era" Bill on today's roster?
Happy replied to whatdrought's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He was mentioned a couple of times earlier on in this thread. I wish Schobel could come back, it would solve a big hole in the d-line.
