He makes them money. The quality of the game has gone way down during Goodell's tenure, but that is not important apparently. Brilliant! All Goodell has to do is flick his half smoked cigarette at the press boxes or stairs (after a little gasoline is spread) and the whole thing goes up like a big bonfire.

He won't last long in both roles.

That Al Capone sounds like a really good guy.

Astro's "Pick-Six" Discussing the upcoming 2020 Bills Draft
Happy replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the problem with Ty is that he will be 34 and is an injury concern, especially with his age. RT was a concern, especially with Ty hurt; Ford had his ups and downs. I'm not too sure McD and Beane can go into camp without competition at the RT spot, so I would be very happy with a RT in the second round. I also think they re-sign Spain, since he was solid at LT and cap space isn't a problem. Having a year together will help, but if there are questions at a position, those have to be answered. Maybe Ford shows growth at camp at RT, or maybe he gets moved to LT, in which case Spain or Ford could possibly be trade bait at some point. I'm not sure if the problems on the line were the line trying to gel, experience (Dawkins and Ford) at the tackle positions, or blocking scheme. Whatever it was, that has to get fixed. -
Chargers moving on from Philip Rivers after 16 years

Doubt it. I think Fitz is going to start in Miami, which is probably why they brought in Chan Gailey. They'll keep Rosen and probably try to draft a QB. -

I like a RT in the second round since there is no way Ford can be handed the RT position. If we take EDGE in rounds 5B and 6B it means Beane will have to buy one in FA. These guys would be depth, like Daryl Johnson last year. -
No way. Wrecks has a ring as the D-line coach for Brian Billick. I'm fairly certain Marvin Lewis was the DC back in 2000.
-
He usually is a game away and ends up losing. That is what he is known for and past articles have been critical of him by pointing it out. He's been to the SB once, this is his second appearance.
-
Eli probably will get in, but I don't think he should. See Deion Sanders' quote I referenced above. Jim Kelly went to four SBs and couldn't win one. While four in a row is unprecedented, even to this day, he didn't change the game or was particularly dominant at the position. If Jim won one SB, a better argument could be made. Jim was very good and I admire his toughness, but he didn't define or redefine the position, like Dan Marino did. Marino was today's high powered, big number QB before the era existed, and there wasn't anywhere near the type of rule protection that today's QB receives.
-
I'd just add that those Giant teams had great defensive lines. This was the key to their victories.
-
While we're at it...Jim Kelly. Went to four in a row and choked. I like the guy and admire his toughness but shouldn't be in the HOF.

This take may not go over well for some, but I put 'ok coach.' That is what I think he is, ok. He almost always has a lot to work with as far as player personnel in both Philly and KC, but ends up being one and done. Andy has outperformed himself this year, and I expect to see an underwhelming performance in the SB. That is typically what Andy Reid is - underwhelming. I don't think he's a bad guy, and unfair attacks were made about him not being the best father to his deceased son, which is a huge shame...I'm sure Reid still hurts thinking about his son. I think Reid is just 'ok' and his presence as a coach hasn't done anything to define/redefine the position of an NFL coach.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001098575/article/will-eli-manning-be-inducted-in-the-pro-football-hall-of-fame Good article on the subject, comprised mostly of opinions/takes from NFLN player-analysts. Most seem to think Eli will get in based primarily on the two SB wins against N.E. Here is my favorite take, and it is from Deion Sanders: "The Pro Football Hall of Fame is not what it used to be Honestly, I'm not so sure what being a Hall of Famer means anymore. Football immortality used to be reserved for players who redefined their position, made a big impact on the game or dominated their position for a period of time. The way the Hall is trending now, Eli will get in most likely because he won two Super Bowls. It won't be because he embodied any of those three points while in the league. It is what it is, man."
-
Don't get me wrong, I admire how Eli delivered two clutch performances against the Patriots in the two Super Bowls. But, if the Giants defense wasn't able to keep Brady and the high powered Pats offenses in check, no way was Eli and the Giants offenses going to outscore Brady. Other than these two SB games, Eli was pretty much average to slightly above average.
-
Nope. He beat the Patriots in the SB twice, but that was primarily because of their defense. Eli was good, but not great like his brother.
-
Thanks for beating the Pats*** 2x, Eli. Best wishes in your retirement.

Double down on defense and O-line
Happy replied to Ethan in Cleveland's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is right on. You can't cover your way to winning with defense, the offense/WR gets the benefit of the doubt and the DB gets the PI. The Bills are built toward coverage, not pass rush or run defense. A great D-line gets you both, which we need since our LB corps are basically big DBs. -
Do you think the Bills are going to make a big run at Clowney?

Interesting, I wasn't aware of this. Yes, it does seem like Hughes draws too many flags, though many of them are very questionable, like the refs are intentionally picking on Hughes. -
Tennessee Titans in Search of New DC - Could Impact Buffalo
Happy replied to JGMcD2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have a feeling there is going to be no winning this argument with you. I think you're looking at this situation too black and white. Clearly a position coach to DC is a jump in responsibilities, regardless of how the NFL defines it. How many position coaches are also the DC? I'm asking because I'm not aware of any, though maybe you can cite an instance. -

If the interview was for a position that brought him a step closer to becoming a GM (such as an assistant GM) and is not a lateral move, he should be allowed to interview. If the interview was for Director of Player Personnel for Tennessee, Carolina, or whoever else, then that should be blocked. But if it was for assistant GM for Carolina, Tennessee, etc where he is being groomed for a GM role, he should be allowed. It is all about allowing people to grow. If you keep people down, they'll want to leave in the future, anyway; plus no one would want to work for that organization once word got out. What if your boss didn't allow you to interview for a promotion in your organization? How would you feel? -

Going from a DB coach to DC may not be a promotion according to the NFL, but wouldn't you (or anyone else) consider it to be? I think Beane and McD allow the interview.
