The MMQB: Is Tyrod Taylor "The Guy"?
Dorkington replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He needs to improve on the short/intermediate quick pass game, otherwise I'm content with him for now. Our defense is the major problem this year. -
NYG off plays: 842 OBJ targets/runs: 143 OBJ yds/play: 9.25 OBJ usage rate: 16.98% Buf off plays: 819 SW targets/runs: 66 SW yds/play: 10.86 SW usage rate: 8.06% I think this basically tells the story. NY funnels a lot more of it's offense through OBJ. They also pass more in general (500 attempts for 59.4%, compared to 392 for 47.8%), and the Bills (imo) have a better TE and RB stealing targets. It's easy to simply say Sammy sucks. But I think there's more to the story than that. I'm happy with the pick. He was more of a sure thing than Beckham (and Beckham wasn't even going to be our choice, Ebron was), and we needed a #1.

Because our players and coaches are dumb. It's pretty obvious just from watching the games.

Why tank when we can trade 18 first round picks for the worst WR bust ever?

I've also been feeling a bit of this lately, as well. -

Did you miss the part where I also tend to go to a game or two, and spend on merchandise? Or does nothing count unless it's a season ticket? Only rich people deserve to make decisions with their spending? -

Not sure why you're digging. I already told you what I spend money on. No, I'm not in Buffalo, so I'm not a season ticket holder. I'm under the impression that with various revenue sharing deals, that even spending indirectly, some of that money goes to the Bills. A few hundred dollars whether directly to the Bills, or the NFL, or some combo, is still a few hundred dollars to me. Will the Bills feel it? Nope. Not trying to insinuate that. But I think I'm allowed to change my spending habits since this 'hobby/interest' hasn't been giving me the enjoyment that I feel the money should. I imagine other people who spend thousands every year on season tickets are feeling it even worse. But maybe I'm not a 'real' fan, since I'm basically at 'show me the baby' stage. I never insinuated that the Bills will 'feel the impact'. But I think I'm allowed to make decisions with my own money based on how much enjoyment the spending brings me. -

Depends on the year. Okay. -

A few hundred on the DTV ST package. Plus whatever merchandise, and if I go to a game or two that year (whether in Buffalo or elsewhere). Hence why I said Bills/NFL. -
Smarter people than me have suggested Mario can be restructured. I think if he can to something reasonable, he's a good guy to keep around. Unless we somehow find someone as good, or better to replace him straight up.
-
Personally, I think I'm tired of giving the Bills/NFL hundreds of dollars a year for these sorts of results. I'm gonna do my best to vote with my wallet, and not spend on this next year. I'm sure that means it'll be the year they make the playoffs, but such is life

I'll try to be realistic, and not work on too many emotions, also, I'm ignoring contracts in this since I don't know enough about them and I'm lazy: QB: Keep as is. Tyrod is developing nicely, and outside of Jax, I think EJ is developing in Roman's system there are certainly worse starters and backup QBs than what we have. OL: Find a quality starting RT through draft or FA, cut one of the existing depth tackles, move current starter(s) to depth RB: Shady, Karlos, and Gillississippi seem like a pretty solid trio. Comfortable there. Boobie needs to go. Felton... I'm unsure of. TE: Clay is awesome. Gragg, I wish lived up to his potential, but just isn't productive. O'Leary is an unknown. Need another depth guy here, likely to replace Gragg. WR: Goodwin and Harvin are gone. Sammy is good, Woods and Hogan are solid guys. We need another playmaker. I'm not trusting smaller fast guys in the modern football era on a whole, so I'd prefer a bigger guy who can be a safety valve. Easley sticks around due to special teams needs. DL (4-3): Mario and Kyle are getting up there, but still productive. Though not on paper. I've liked how well Bryant has played in Kyle's absence. We need to address DE and DT though for the future. I'd like to see us draft a stud DE or DT with our first or second pick in the draft. And another depth guy with our 3rd or 4th pick. LB (4-3): Rough going here. I thought Brown and Bradham were on their way to being good/solid players, but have kind of sucked this year. Really need some help. Brown is young and can still grown into the system, but who knows. Much like DE/DT we could be using some new young talent from the draft. The rest of the existing crew I don't even know they exist, so they can go, assuming we find better. CB: I think we're good here. Darby and Gilmore are good starters, Leodis and Robey provide solid depth. Next year's draft, maybe look at another, but skip the position this year. S: Need help here all of a sudden. I don't trust AW's neck, Graham hasn't looked as good as I was hoping. Duke is cheap depth but that's about it. Rambo has actually been a surprise, he seems to be a ball hawk, but also gets burned on some plays. Not sure what the answer is here. K: Carpenter/Gay needs to go, unfortunately. Carpenter is in the lower third of the league as a kicker from what I can tell, which means he's not worth keeping a kickoff specialist for. If Carp was 'money' as he was in previous years, then it'd be a different story. Sorry Gay. P: Good here, just need some better directional control/decision making at times (unless that's a coaching thing?) I think we suffered a lot from injuries and depth problems this year. As well as obvious schematic and play calling issues. I think our special teams staff needs to be revamped. I think Rex needs to go back to the drawing board on defense. And I think Roman/Tyrod need to work on better short yardage plays. We have a hard time picking up first downs at times, some of it is play design, some of it is Tyrod's current capability. Give me a new young DL player or two, a LB or two, and maybe a solid FA safety, some health, and hopefully more comfort in our systems, and I think we're pretty solid overall.

Nope. But they have the same amount of success so far. Different players, different coaches, different owners, same results.
-
The Browns have been to the playoffs more recently than the Bills have.
-
Can we at least agree on this? (Tyrod)
Dorkington replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He can throw a good deep ball, doesn't turn the ball over often, and can extend plays with this legs. But, he's not very good at the short/quick passing game, and that's stalled many drives. He's young, and gaining experience. He'll need to improve, but he's certainly shown more good than bad so far! -
I thought it was cool. Philly is his home.
-
Our passing game is ultimately feast or famine. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of methodical marching involved, its go big or go home.
-
He built a 6-7 team, to be fair.
-
I'm not happy with Rex and staff, I am fine with Whaley. That being said, I think continuity is important. So we need to give this combo 3+ years. I imagine we'll be looking at a 18 year streak before we have a new coach/GM.
-
Different coaches, different players, different front office, different owners. We've changed all these things in recent years with the same results. What else is there to do?
-
I hate myself for buying in every year. I'm a !@#$ing idiot.
