We're closer to going all the way than we think. We can legitimately say we can take the Chiefs to the brink as much as the 49ers. Blowing up the McDermott - Beane would be big a step back. This fan base's negativity is based more on the accumulated heartbreaks of The Decade of Fail and 4 Falls of Buffalo than how the team is currently playing. Von Miller is ineffective without a corresponding threat like Chubb or Aaron Donald and is stealing paycheques. If we think Josh is a franchise QB ( yes I do) then we have to stop using him as a battering ram in short yardage. There is no Mahomes tush push play. Our defense has some good players but no playmakers. Can you name one defender who is irreplaceable or among the elite at their position? At 17 games, the regular season becomes more like exhibition. Going into the post season healthy is more important than being the #1 seed or having home field.

What are your feelings on James Cook RB1
stuvian replied to BillMafia716ix's topic in The Stadium Wall
Cook is a great player but at 180 lbs is not a short yardage back -
I'm getting together with a former neighbour. He and I have watched the last twenty Superbowls together save for the height of the pandemic. It's more out of tradition and friendship than my interest in the game. Winning back to back titles is the most difficult thing in sports so I'm very surprised that the Chiefs made it on that basis alone. Now that they are in, I can't see them losing. I enjoyed the playoffs this year but the air went out of my balloon after the Bills lost. I still hold some pride that we will have shown to have given the Chiefs their biggest challenge. The 49ers essentially backed in after the Packers and Lions let them hang around (as the song says) out of kindness I suppose. I respect Andy Reid as one of the game's great coaches and expect him to retire if he wins. I'm going to give the UFL a long look this offseason. As the NFL drowns in its own greed, I'm starting to feel dirty like I'm supporting Monsanto or Big Tobacco by devoting so much time to it. I'm coming up on two years retired and am feeling the importance of using time meaningfully.

Brandon Weeden worse than Johnny Manziel or Brady Quinn? I don't think so. Seahawks worst QB was Dan McGwire though I concur that Mirer was bad. The writer doesn't back up assertions with stats. Looks written by AI. Great topic, garbage article.

Hot Mic Baker Mayfield returning to Bucs
stuvian replied to BaaadThingsMan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Baker should have won Comeback Player of the Year. Flacco played only 5 games. I love Damar and his story but he really didn't play much football this year. Mayfield put the Bucs on his back and carried them farther than their talent should have. -
NFL’s “Rooney Rule” being challenged in court.
stuvian replied to BuffaloBill's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The Rooney Rule mandates interview quotas, not hiring quotas. I don't see how you can challenge that. This lawsuit is just a dog whistle for the election. I favour keeping the Rooney rule awhile longer but not indefinitely. I don't know that we would have discovered great leaders like Dungy, Caldwell, Edwards, Tomlin and Bowles absent the rule. The challenge today is not overt racial bias but the fact that todays' rules favour offensive coaches. Most black coaches are defense oriented. Some of which was a direct result of past bias from the era of white only QBs. Warren Moon's best years were spent in Canada when he was graded on par with Joe Montana by the 49ers. He went north because he didn't think he'd get a fair shot as a starter in the NFL. College QBs Tony Dungy and Marlon Brisco were advised to change positions as pros to fully realize their "athletic potential". It wasn't that long ago that Jackie Harris and Doug Williams received death threats when they were starting NFL QBs. Then there was Bill Polian's cringeworthy advice for Lamar Jackson to switch to WR. We can rest assured that the merit principle is still in place by the fact that Eric Bienemy has not been offered a head coaching job. We should keep the Rooney rule unless it becomes irrelevant. -

If Belichick, Carroll and Vrabel can't get jobs why should Bienemy? This round of hirings shows that owners are not willing to blow up their organization for just anyone not named Harbaugh. Bienemy will have to tutor a young quarterback to somewhere between competence and greatness for a return to relevance.
