  1. Finally, a "we need a new QB because all of ours suck" thread! I was wondering when somebody would start one...
  2. Nobody can take anything Ditka says seriously. Most of the time it is merely amusing listening to him trying to articulate any thought. However, sometimes I actually cringe and kinda feel bad for him - even embarrassed for him. But then I wonder if I should. Sort of a philosophical question, I guess: Should you feel bad for the village idiot if he doesn't know he is the village idiot?
  3. IMHO, there is a big difference between being brash, cocky, and confident in your abilities - and actively seeking the spotlight, on and off the field, and continually engaging in behaviors that put your own self-aggrandizing needs above the team and the organization you play for. And it really isn't a fine line between the two... He was an exceptional athlete in college and I have no idea how good he will be as an NFL QB. However, that is a completely separate issue from, what has become, a pattern of self-centered and self-indulgent behavior.
  4. The QB threads on this board are just getting absolutely ridiculous
  5. I think a strong offensive line is every bit as important as a strong defensive line. I find it interesting that you point out how woeful the offense was and how stellar the defensive line was, yet you wanted the team to spend a high draft pick on another defensive lineman rather that someone who could improve the "woeful" offense....
  6. It still burns me that Joe Montana was there in round three for us instead of John Borchardt… And Tom Brady was there for us around six instead of Leif Larson...
  7. 1. We have no way of knowing at this point how good EJ is going to be. Last year was a brand new offensive system with brand new coaches. EJ missed considerable time due to injuries and when he did play, he played behind a line that had severely regressed from the year before - not to mention genuine injury issues at wide receiver and running back. To make any conclusive judgments, one way or the other, from last year is nothing short of foolish speculation. If he stays healthy this year and the O-line plays at a higher level than they did last year, then we should have a pretty good idea of the trajectory EJ will be on in regard to being a quality NFL starting QB. Why is this such an outlandish idea to some on this board? 2. Just who are these available QBs out there to lead this team NOW...and how are you so certain they would be effective in leading this team deep into the playoffs. There is a lot of talk on this board about how a good QB (accepting, for the sake of argument, that EJ is not that QB) would make this team a sure bet playoff contender (and possibly more). I would just like to know who he is and how the team acquires him? We all have an opinion on our QB situation and the truth is that not a single one of us has any idea how good or bad EJ will be. However, for those who are on the side of the QB situation being anything from "questionable" to "all of them suck," please offer who you believe would be much more likely to lead this team to the playoffs than EJ.
  8. If I am not mistaken, CJ led the league (or was near the top of the league) in average per carry between the tackles in 2012. 2013 is a hard year to judge because of the injuries he played with and the definite regression of the offense of line – particularly between the tackles. I believe it is a gross mischaracterization to say that CJ has no ability to run between the tackles.
  9. Got it...my mistake...and I won't disagree with you about every thread turning into an "EJ sucks" thread....
  10. You do understand that your opinion is just that: an opinion . It carries no more weight than anyone else's opinion - no matter how aggressive and "matter of fact" you are in your posts....
  11. It is not just the preseason, last year during the middle of the regular season it was Glennon over EJ... Then, at the end of the regular season it was Geno over EJ... For some posters, it is clear that it is anyone other than EJ,,,
  12. Another thread to feed the "I would rather have anyone at QB other than EJ" crowd...as if the dozens of other threads where that sentiment is expressed aren't enough...
  13. So, in your opinion, is he better than Skelton? If so, you'd probably have to give up more than Mario in a trade...
  14. My expertise is personality psychology and criminal behavior; however, assessing the psychology of the average Bills fan might prove just as interesting....
  15. I read the article and Reed's allegiance to the City of Buffalo, and his desire that the team remain in Buffalo, is pretty clear. All he said, in response to being asked if he would still be part of the franchise IF it moved to Toronto, was. "If they paid me." I'm not so certain it wasn't a tongue in cheek kinda thing. Even if it wasn't, it doesn't bother me all that much. It was a response to the hypothetical situation of the team having already been moved to Toronto - and that the only way he would have any part in the team would be if they paid him. I'm certainly not going to hold that against a guy that was an integral part of the best team Buffalo ever put on the field.
  16. For those of us that lived through 20 straight losses to the Dolphins in the 70s, and being dominated, in many ways, worse than what we have endured against New England - That was an absolutely awesome win. It was the season opener and set the tone for a division winning season. That season also season ended with an extremely exciting playoff game. Unfortunately, we lost it when Dan Fouts threw a 50 yard TD with a little over two minutes left in the game....
  17. Every professional football player understands and acknowledges that the use of marijuana is prohibited by the NFL, and what the consequences are if they are caught using it. Those are the rules, like it or not, until they change. Whether or not it should be prohibited is a separate argument and irrelevant to this debate. Blackmon understood full well that his livelihood could be in jeopardy if he smoked marijuana. He chose to do so anyway. He deserves what he gets. You are right, people do all kinds of stupid things while driving. So what? It doesn't make smoking mariuana or being stoned while driving any less stupid.
  18. Amen. Wilson has not had to carry that team in any way. He has a ring because that team had a monster defense and running game.He may very well turn out to be a great QB; however, he is not one yet - not even close.
  19. With all due respect, I do not think it is a fair dig. Tuel played on AWFUL teams with almost historically bad offensive lines. Tuel took an absolute beating when he played, and, when he wasn't taking a beating, he was running for his life. Consequently, after his freshmen year, when he wasn't out with an injury, he was playing injured. Add to that, the changes in coaches and offensive philosophies. Good quarterbacks can elevate the play of average to above average teams. Very few QBs can elevate the play of very bad teams. I seriously doubt that even the best college QBs would have won many more games with those teams than Tuel did. Again, I have no idea if he will ever be anything more than a 2nd or 3rd string NFL QB; however, this idea that his total wins in college are relevant in any way, IMHO, is not valid, given the talent of the teams he played on. In truth, I actually think Tuel will beat out Lewis for the backup spot.
  20. If you know anything about that program while Tuel was there, then you'd know that you can't place the majority of the blame on him. He also finished with the highest completion percentage in school history and in the top ten in completions, touchdowns and passing yards. I'm not saying he is ever going to be anything more than a backup QB; however, this idea that he is absolutely horrific is, IMO, not a legitimate characterization
  21. IMO, Tuel is not nearly as bad as many posters want to make him out to be. I think he will end up being a perfectly serviceable backup QB, along the lines of a Frank Reich. He is smart, decisive, shows pretty good pocket awareness, and in spite of all the talk about his arm strength, he shows a surprisingly good ability to get the ball deep with a good touch on it. I think his primary problem is lack of experience. I think Thad Lewis played fairly well at times last year; however, I don't see him progressing much further in terms of ability. Tuel may not either, yet I think he has the potential to develop into a better QB than Lewis. I hope Tuel legitimately wins the backup QB spot this year.
