Mystery persists regarding Pees landing spot
earthtobrint replied to bills_red's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What? How would they know that the team hiring Pees has a DC already in place, but not know which team it is? -
He isn't a disaster but he isn't worth what we're paying him and he wouldn't fit in a 3-4. We don't even know if we are changing schemes at this point, though.

Kelsay gets cut and Stroud/Johnson/a free agent plays DE. There's quite a few threads that have discussed this already.

WORST Bills Player bang for the buck...
earthtobrint replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"the starts he made at OT were invaluable for an offensive line in shambles." (Jonathon Scott). He played like they weren't paying him at all, which they shouldn't next year. The best value list looks almost as bad as the worst value list. -
s'all good.
-
I realize that. I'm not really that negative. I was merely going along with the Pees joke.
-
It would be fitting for Pees to land in the toilet of the NFL where other coaches careers have gone down the drain. http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patr...explains_d.html It didn't seem like he was in any hurry to jump into another job, but it wouldn't be the first time a coach has said they weren't leaving for another job and then did anyways.
-
Yes, that seemed strange to me as well. A GM should want to know what type of staff the head coaching candidates have on board with him before deciding which candidate to hire.
-
If you watched the games, you'd notice that they won in spite of Fitzpatrick's poor play. He's wildly inaccurate and makes poor decisions with the football. The Bills won those games by averaging 4 interceptions forced a game in "Fitz' wins". Edwards played better the first half of the 2008 season than Fitz has ever played in his entire career. Again, I hope we'll have better options by the start of next season, but that's why there's reason to believe Edwards has higher upside than Fitzpatrick.
-
This would be a possibility if the Bills make the bold decision to forgo the 2010 NFL Draft.
-
Agreed. However, it's not grounds for dismissal. If people want him cut because they think he'll never regain his confidence, then okay, but the "trent turned on the city" comment was ridiculous. A new head coach could potentially get more out of Edwards than Fitzpatrick. Neither are good options. If either of them are our starting quarterback for the majority of next season, then this offseason will have been a failure.
-
Any correct guess this soon would be pure blind luck.
-
...or instead of forcing ourselves into making a terrible reach in the draft by selecting a running QB, how about we fix the offensive line instead? How about that idea?
-
Vick will be 30 by the time the 2010 season begins. Watching him this year, it seems he is no longer the explosive play-making runner he was 6 years ago. Without his legs and athleticism, he's just an average quarterback. I'd take a flier on him if the trade price was low.

Dick Jauron had one winning season in four seasons as head coach with the Bears and Lions. He had a track record for being a loser. Frazier has upside that Jauron never had. He has yet to be a head coach in the NFL but most likely will be given that opportunity by a team in the next couple years. Your estimation would be very far from accurate. Nine of the twelve teams to make the playoffs this season have head coaches in their first stint as a head coach in the NFL.

What would salvage this disaster?
earthtobrint replied to Cotton Fitzsimmons's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A trade for Marcus McNeil would be good for this list even though the Chargers would not let it happen. -
I don't like the Chan Gailey hiring, but by your logic anyone the Bills selected would've been the wrong choice.

FA's out there for a 3-4 switch
earthtobrint replied to Fewell733's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We don't have many players currently on our roster breaking the bank, and none of those contracts besides Maybin and Schobel go as far as 2012. -

We're certainly not restrained by any lack of salary cap space. I normally don't advocate huge free agent spending but guys like Wilfork and Seymour would be worth hefty paychecks. -
Gailey indicated that he will not be hiring a true OC. He is going to try to balance playcalling and game management at the same time. A Frazier hiring with Gailey at OC would've been preferable if at all possible.

The Jets made the exact same trade (3rd and 5th round picks for a DT) the same year we traded for Marcus Stroud, only they got Kris Jenkins. bah. I wouldn't have a problem with the Bills making Wilfork the highest paid defensive lineman in the game, but I have a feeling even that wouldn't be enough to convince him to leave the Pats for us. -
Am i wrong for being excited for next year?
earthtobrint replied to zer0vette's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't predict the Bills being anywhere near the playoff race midway through the season, but I'm still looking forward to seeing how things develop. I want to see our young players develop, which is why it was frustrating that Jauron would stubbornly refuse to play them. But frankly, I'm looking forward to the draft more than the season. -
Quick and decisive move by the Dolphins.
-
What quarterbacks has he developed? Here is his lists of quarterbacks he's coached - Mike Tomzack, Kordell Stewart, Troy Aikman at the end of his career, Jay Fiedler, Tyler Thigpen. A pathetic list if I ever did see one. I'm not saying that is his fault. If anything, it's a credit to him that he has been able to make the playoffs with guys like these at the helm. But don't make up things to try to prove your point like "he can develop QB's". To me, that press conference was quite an underwhelming release of hot air. Chan spouted the typical coach-speaking generalizations about fundamentals and needing teachers to teach the players. There wasn't enough in his podium performance to sway me one way or another. We don't even know who his staff will be yet.
