LIVE ***NFL Draft, Day 3, coverage at noon.
OldTimer1960 replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall
How about Luke Wypler or Jammie Robinson or Andrew Vorhees or AT Perry with next pick? -
Hope that both Spector and Bernard have done so. I agree, Spector staying at the facility all off-season is a suggestion of dedication, but you can train most anywhere, so hoping Bernard has too.

Williams certainly looks like an athlete and he is fast. The Bills seem to have a current “type” at LB - undersized with speed. From Brandon Beane’s press conference it sounds like they took him as an outside backer, not as someone who will compete to replace Edmunds next year. Probably unfair to suggest this, but it seems like they hit on Matt Milano and now are looking for another guy in a similar mold. Williams has speed and athletic movement skills to play in a pass happy NFL, let’s see how he develops. Looking at body types, Williams looks more the part than Terrel Bernard did last year. Anxious to see if Bernard bulks up over the offseason. Milano really built some muscle after a year in the program, hopefully Bernard can too. Williams, though, already is built.

About 2 rounds in for Bills…
-
I probably would have gone to another position - maybe Derrick Hall.
-
Working on building the smallest LB group in the league.
-
Not much to say.
-
Welp what now?
-
Now trade the remaining picks to go get Trenton Simpson and call it a draft. I wonder what teams don’t like about Simpson. Fabulous athlete, but he has played a number of positions so not polished at one.
-
That surprises me.
-
Bills gotta go LB Simpson or Sanders, right?
-
Unfortunately, most of that list will be gone with 27 selections before Bills’ pick. Hopefully, someone on the OL or Sanders is left. You can never have enough good corners in today’s NFL and there might be a few good ones left. By late round 2 in this draft, can’t be picky about position, get a good player.
-
They only have 1 DT under contract beyond this season.
-
With the selection of Kincaid to be a big slot receiver, I would be surprised if they consider any of the remaining slot options- I would cross off Josh Downs even though I really like him. They could still consider an outside WR like Cedric Tillman or Rashee Rice. I don’t think any of the remaining OT prospects will last until pick 59 and I think I’d stay away from Jaelan Duncan - I just wasn’t impressed with how passively he plays (in the games I watched). G/C is a possibility if one remains. Inside LB is the obvious need and I’d love to get Trenton Simpson, but I think he will go by mid-2nd. I’m unsure if I’d consider Drew Sanders if he is there. He is a gamble to me. I think there is a good chance CB will be best player available and I would not hate it, if they go that route. Teams are passing 60+ % of the time now. Of course S is a need for after this year, if they like any that are still on the board.
-
Hope at least 1 of them is available when Bills pick comes. 27 players will be picked before Bills’ selection.
-
I thought going in, he was the best receiver in the draft. Don’t obsess over TE “position”, he is a big receiver with excellent hands and toughness after the catch. Not a traditional TE.
-
You really think so?

The draft debate has been very fun for the past several months. I enjoy reading everyone’s opinions. Tonight the Bills make their first pick (or not!). The pick will make some happy and some will be apoplectic that who they picked is clearly inferior to another player/isn’t a player at a premium position/has an average RAS score, etc… Whatever your view, let’s remember that: 1. We are not privy to any player’s medical evaluation. This is very important. 2. We don’t have an opportunity to evaluate a player by interviewing him, his coaches, teammates, etc. 3. We don’t have a sense for the work ethic of most prospects 4. It is hard for us to evaluate any players aptitude to learn 5. Most of us can’t tell how a player fits the Bills’ current scheme and none of us know what scheme changes they are considering. 5. It is very hard for us to know what room any prospect has to improve strength/skills (are they maxed out or just need NFL strength training?) All of the above are very important considerations when evaluating any player. Looking forward to the excitement and debates!

TSW Mock Draft 3.0 Poll - Who should the Bills take at #34
OldTimer1960 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think Trenton Simpson is the best athlete on that list and fits a big need. He’s not perfect and you’d be betting that experience at MLB improves his recognition. At worst, I think you end up with a very good OLB, but still a hole at MLB. Simpson looks like a LB and moves like a DB. -

I think you’re being too harsh, but it is your prerogative. I agree it is risky to not bring in competition, but he still has a chance. -

I don’t agree that Brown is a complete proven bum. Last year was poor, but I hold hope given the problems he overcame just to get on the field last year. I’m not guaranteeing that Brown will be good, but there is a pretty reasonable chance he will, in my opinion. -
It’s not the draft pick compensation, it is the salary cap implications for Bills and Hopkins’ age and recent roid suspension.

Awesome stuff, sincere thanks for all your efforts! -
Will DeAndre Hopkins be available this offseason?
OldTimer1960 replied to NeverOutNick's topic in The Stadium Wall
It isn’t impossible. The question is whether the cap mess you have to create to fit a 31 y.o., recently injured, recently suspended receiver under the cap is the right move. I don’t think it is, even if they could get him for a 4th or later.
