How would it be possible to name Anthony Lynn the new coach after this debacle? -

??? First, I have seen really nobody here truly hating on Tyrod Taylor. Many have said he is not a franchise level QB and that he isn't worth the money that they will owe him next year. He is clearly still the best QB on the roster. -

Whelp, have we seen enough of Cardale Jones to agree that, at best, he isn't ready to be an NFL QB? -

Seeing your signature line, I don't think I saw a 1st round performance from Trubinsky. Neither do I think Watson is a 1st round QB. I'd rather keep Tyrod than draft Watson in round 1 -

If they get stomped in 2nd half with no effort, it will be hard to trot him out as the next hope. -

After that weak half, hard to see Lynn as a viable coaching contender -

Really not impressed with the team today. If they lose this game with a whimper, it should remove Anthony Lynn from consideration for the coaching job. -
Cardale Jones taking 2nd team reps
OldTimer1960 replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This decision does not mean that they are sure to walk away from Taylor. As several have noted, this move simply delays the decision on Taylor allowing the new coaching staff to have input. Smart move, I think. If Taylor had played and gotten hurt, thus denying the Bills' option, it could have made it harder to hire a coach. -
Are you being serious? One disastrous game when Jones isn't prepared to play and reporters and many fans will have him labeled as "bust - time to move on". It isn't just the QBs own ego, but also overcoming fan/media perceptions can be very hard indeed.
-
I think this just means that Cardale hasn't shown them in practice that he is remotely ready to play a NFL game. We all want to see the shiny new hope at QB, but if he isn't ready, playing him could damage any chance that he might ever develop.

I don't hate the idea of Taylor being the Bills' starter next year, but I don't love it either. I don't think that the Bills rushing offense would have been as good without the running threat that Taylor provides on every play. Defenses have to account for Taylor running on any given play making it easier for McCoy and Gillislee to find openings. Taylor deserves credit for that. It could be argued that, in addition to his passing yards per game, you should consider Taylor's rushing yards and additional yards that RBs get because of Taylor's running threat. In that light, Taylor is competent. It can also be argued that Taylor's passing game was severely limited for most of the season without Watkins, Woods and Clay not playing well till year end. On the other hand, it is hard to look at Taylor and think that he is a good NFL passer. Big decision with the money due for next 3 years.
-
You are being a bit irrational here. I don't think that anyone considers Manuel a likely option as a starter next year. The risk of HAVING to pick up the $30M contract for Taylor if he gets hurt is too great. I think it is very rational to sit him this week and get the next coach's input on whether he wants Taylor here before DECIDING whether to pay Taylor that kind of money. If Taylor played and was hurt, the Bills would be stuck with him regardless of whether the new coach wanted him or not. Then, folks here would blame Whaley for "saddling the new coach with a QB he doesn't want".

Anthony Lynn: Should he be the next head coach?
OldTimer1960 replied to TallskiWallski83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It isn't just the OC's "philosophy" that is causing them to not throw the ball often. Tyrod Taylor is not a strong passer and they have been down to the JV WRs for most of the season - passing more often would have been playing to their own weakness rather than their strengths. Here folks have rightfully criticized Rex for staying with his system rather than playing what fit his player's strengths- yet folks are clamoring for someone to pass more even though that is clearly not a fit for their personnel. -
The Bills have lost their identity

I don't understand the uproar about punting from your own territory on 4th and 3. If you want to be mad at Rex for fielding a defense that cannot stop anyone, then great - I think you are spot on. I think punting on 4th and 3 from where they were was the right play. They had the Dolphins pinned pretty deep in their territory after the punt. It was the putrid defense that gave up a 55 yard run on the first play from scrimmage that killed their chances. With a decent defense, the Bills get the ball back around their 40 with 2:00 left to move into ft position. Lots of reasons that Rex should be let go, but punting on that play isn't one of the reasons. -

Yes, it is on! Come up with a descriptive nickname for this poor excuse for a defense! -

Mods, please merge my two attempts at the same thread. Thanks Promo. They suck in one word or two words. I can't think of a more talented defense that performed to a lower standard. The all-time bad defenses that compete with this unit had MUCH less talent. -
Man, how could anyone be defending this defense after that pathetic performance? If they had played decent defense even 1/3 of Miami's drives, the Bills win that game.

We Should Pick Up the Option on Tyrod No Matter What

That has to be in the running! -
Rex Ryan came into Buffalo vowing to "build a bully". Watching his defense for 2 years makes it clear that he built the proverbial 98 pound weakling. If I were to come up with a nickname for this awful defense, it might be "The Speed Bump Defense", but that is probably being too generous. Maybe "The Light Head Wind Defense"? Rex has embarrassed himself with the last two years worth of coaching performances. Let the speculation begin regarding the next head coach... Rex and Rob are heading to NFL TV roles as clowns.

How the hell can Ryan survive this? His defense is one of the worst that I can ever rember seeing - and I have seen a lot of bad Bills' defenses over the years -
