Like it! Protection for Allen!

Bills on the clock, who’ they trade up for? Of course commercials
-
I could live with that. I’m not as down on Zay as many, but I do like Brown.
-
I do like AJ Brown- liked what I saw in the games that I watched - smooth and strong and competitive. Most write ups that I’ve seen suggest he is best in the slot - does that conflict with Beasley?
-
Agreed that he isn’t going to be an in-line blocking TE, but from what I’ve read and watched in some of his games he will stick his nose in there and make some good blocks. I still argue that 4.6 is quite good for any type of TE. Antonio Gates ran 4.6, Tony Gonzalez was 4.8 and Travis Kelce ran 4.63. FWIW, I would prefer a well rounded TE that is a good blocker and receiver, so I’m not saying that they HAVE to take Smith, but I do like him as much as the WRs in this round.
-
A 4.6 40 is very good to outstanding for a TE. Whoever they like best (and of course who is left) among Jawaan Taylor, Cody Ford and Dalton Risner. I could see possibly taking Irv Smith Jr, but I think I would prefer one of the OTs. In round 3, I would consider Andy Isabella to try to be our new Don Beebe. I would not want to part with their 3rd round pick, but if they wanted to try to move up a bit from 40 for someone that they REALLY like, I could be persuaded to part with their 4ths.

2nd round is setting up nicely already

RD 1, Pick 9: DT Ed Oliver, University of Houston
OldTimer1960 replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A little worried about his lack of girth for DT, but I can see the quickness and effort are tremendous. -
Matt Miller says the Bills are targeting Ed Oliver at 9
OldTimer1960 replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Trade partner for what? I’d be worried about Oliver’s lack of weight and arm length at 9. No way would I trade up for him. I don’t see anyone in this class that I’d trade up for. -
Your final prediction: Who will the Bills draft in round 1
OldTimer1960 replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Plug and play at which position? I would not hate that pick, but would not be very excited about it, either. Can he play OT in the NFL with his lack of power and shorter arms? Can he even be a very good OG at 301lbs? Likely can be an excellent C, but Bills just paid big $ for Morse. -

I agree with OP - Christian Wilkins was tailor made for Beane and McDermott. He may not be the highest upside guy, but I think he has a very high likelihood of being a good to very good starter and leader for many years. Jonah Williams also fits that profile, but lacks the top end size and athleticism that they *seem* to favor. -
Who’s the ONE guy that you DON'T want in this draft?
OldTimer1960 replied to ehfeuh57's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Rashan Gary, Brian Burns, DK Metcalf, Marquise Brown - in each case either athlete with too little proven ability or (Brown, Burns) too small to play in NFL - at least for a top-10 pick. -
PFT Mock: It's Burns aAt #9
OldTimer1960 replied to OldTimeAFLGuy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What evidence do you have of that? Burns was very underweight and underpowered in college, worked out multiple times a day and ate like a fiend to put on 20 good pounds for the combine. There is no evidence that 1) he’ll be able to maintain that weight during a season and 2) even with the additional weight he won’t be overpowered at the NFL against much bigger stronger competition than he faced in college MAYBE he can carry and maintain the extra weight and maybe his speed will overcome his lack of strength against NFL competition, but that is too risky for my taste high in round one for a team that can not afford a total miss. -

I am VERY leery of Burns. If Bills played a 3-4 then, maybe, OK, but he has not shown that he can play at anything close to the size of a 4-3 DE. If they want to play him at OLB, that might be OK, too. For sure, I am not a qualified NFL talent evaluator, but to me he is a high risk pick. I know that he weighed in at the combine at almost 250, but that is small by any standard for a 4-3 end, especially on a team that already has trouble stopping the run. I question whether he could even maintain 250 lbs during a season, even if he can is that enough and how will his speed only rush hold up against NFL OTs who will overpower him? -
Is there a Eric Moulds our there in the draft?
OldTimer1960 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Stop now - don’t you know “it’s a different game now”? Rookies and 2nd year guys must produce or they are busts. Never mind a guy like Jerry Hughes whom the Bills acquired on the cheap afte Indy gave up on him. -
I can understand why a team might gamble on Metcalf and he might actually prove them right, but I am looking for a prospect that has both very good size, strength, speed AND very good production. There are probably 25 guys in the NBA with Metcalf’s athletic ability and size, yet I don’t want to draft any of them in the top 10 of the NFL draft.
-
Quite a spread there. Oliver is the supposed high-upside guy who could wash out due to lack of size Williams is about the opposite - high floor, but lack of size may limit him to a lesser-impact position at OG Hockenson is in the sweet spot for me. in the end, I could see the Bills pick coming down to Williams, Wilkins or Hockenson. Yet, last year’s picks definitely fit the description of prototype physical traits, so that might argue against Williams and Oliver.

LeSean McCoy on the trading block?
OldTimer1960 replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I’m not in the camp that believe that McCoy is done, but I don’t think he has any real trade value. I’d be shocked if they could get a 3rd for a very highly paid 31 year old RB. -
The sample size for that success is very small. He had 26 catches last year and 20 of those 26 came against TTU?, SIU, Kent and ULM. 6 combined against Alabama, LSU and Arkansas. I don’t know who TTU is, but I know Southern Illinois, Kent and Louisiana Monroe are not good competition against and SEC team. Agreed and I remember Richie Lucas.
-
I think that is because he hasn’t proven to be great even in college, why would you expect him to suddenly blossom in the NFL? Yes, his physical skills are VERY impressive, but you’d better be able to come up with a very plausible explanation for his lack of collegiate production if you are drafting him in the top 10. i think that he will go much later than many be.
-
Jonah is the anti-DK. Williams has less-than-ideal physical traits, but has played at a high level against top college competition. I am leery of both. I worry that what held Metcalf back in college will prevent success in the NFLand I worry that Jonah Williams will be over-whelmed in the NFL by superior size and athleticism.
-
That is true, but he hasn’t really demonstrated in college that he is a good WR that can play at the NFL level. For sure, he has amazing physical traits, but so have countless NFL draft busts. To be clear, I am NOT saying that he WILL be a bust, but he has not produced at a level of even a 2nd round pick, let alone a top 10 pick. I am in the community that wants at least a good solid starter at 9, rather than “swinging for the fences” on a guy with really high traits but could be out of the league in 2-3 years. For the record, I am not a supporter of taking Rashan Gary, either - and he is an equal, maybe even better, example of an athletic freak who doesn’t have production in college to back a high draft selection. Remember C.J. Spiller was a similar super athlete who never panned out in the NFL. What production in college was that based on?
