It's not my way. The object of any competitive sport is to win. Analytics and various other ways of looking at sports is cool to a degree, but unfortunately, it seems that people take more joy in stats and analysis than the actual game. If the Bills lose let them lose trying to do what the game is about: win. Tanking is no guarantee of finding a great QB. Go read the pre-draft write ups of the QB position; "next year" the crop of QBs is always expected to be better. Rarely is that the case. Some of the best QBs in the league were not drafted in the top ten. Would you take Rogers, Brady, or Brees over Stafford, Newton and Ryan? Most would.

Yeah, losing never makes sense to me in general. On purpose? Hell nah.

Applause and salute. The worst thing about it is people seem to assume that losing and drafting one of the supposed best QB's will be a guarantee of that QB being good. Tim Couch, Ryan Leaf, Akili Smith, Jamarcus Russell were supposed to be good too, and I could go on. The QB does not have to be drafted in the top 5. I wonder how many people who are down with losing ever played competitive sports. at any level.

Bills signed Eric Wood to two year extension
purple haze replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't mind the move, but I am confused. He's 31 and they say he is part of the plan going forward. Sammy and Darby are 23-24 and they get shipped out. We keep Shady, as we should, but he'll be 30 next year. Keeping Shady, keeping Wood would indicate win now. But they say they won't be big on Free Agency and will build through the draft. I don't know what to expect from Beane and McDermott. -
DraftTek Positional Needs After Game 3
purple haze replied to Astrobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't know if the QB needs to be 6'4 or taller. I think the O-line needs to stay on blocks better. I think the O-line needs to stop getting pushed back. I think the main issue this pre-season in not our QB's. They have struggled at times, true, but a lot of the issues are due to the O-line getting pushed around. Even when Shady got off in Philly it was because of his own doing. I don't know what the hell is going on up front, but that should be an area of emphasis in FA and draft next year. On a side note, Gaines looks real good; athletic and aware. -
I wonder if management thinks Maclin would be worth 2yrs 11.5 now? But hey, if Matthews balls out they can let him walk in FA since it might cost some $ to re-sign him. I'm so salty right now.

Not surprising. The management/coach keeps pissing on our head and trying to tell us it's rain. This is what I meant in a different thread when I said Beane and McD were coming off as disingenuous to me. You can't trade two of your better, young, talents and then say you want to win. Doesn't add up. Morale among players had to take a hit. If they want to rebuild just do it and stop the BS. I'm concerned we have a guy in charge who won't want to pay for talent. Those trades were very unsettling. I am not looking forward to a season for the first time that I can remember.

Watched the Rams game last night....
purple haze replied to TC in St. Louis's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I watched the game as well, and agree, it's a ridiculous assessment. I disagree that Sammy wasn't open. He was open enough to get the ball many times. But he's new. And Kupp is Goff's security blanket (Kupp is very good BTW). I think as we get into the season and Goff and Watkins have time to develop a rapport Sammy will get his share of catches. What I wonder, though, is what happens to Woods. They're paying him a good chunk of money, but Kupp seems like he will be integral going forward, and if they wind up paying Sammy something has to give on the roster because the Rams still need to pay Donald; maybe Trumaine Johnson too. -
GDT: Preseason Game 2 - Bills vs. Eagles at 7 PM ET
purple haze replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not an old timer, but I'm old enough to remember the 90's Bills pre-season vacations. If Twitter and the Message Board existed back then Marv would have been a Head Coach that needed to be fired, Kelly would have been a bum, Frank Reich would be said to be a CFL level QB...maybe, Bruce would have been lazy and said not to care about the team, Thurman (See Bruce). Not to say the current team will be any good, and it is frustrating to see all of the mistakes and ineffectiveness, but pre-season won't tell the tale for most NFL teams. We really do need to wait for the regular season. Ducasse ain't going to start if he's even on the team. If Cordy can play the line will be okay. McCoy is gonna McCoy. He's a one man wrecking crew with the rock in his hands. The offense looks messy, but trading away a high impact player can help with that. I also think morale was low this week, in spite of all of the "right" things being said by the players. I'm more concerned with McD and Beane. I'm starting to find them to be a bit disingenuous. Maybe that's just my perception though. -
This was a Facebook concoction. Nothing to see here.

Beane & McD Press Conferences
purple haze replied to Jamie Muellers Ghost's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Probably because Beane is new so people seem to have him on the forebearance plan. If Bills don't win folks will turn on him quickly too for whatever their reason of choice. -

TO was a diva. But he was a hard working diva. No one ever questioned his work ethic.

I appreciate your benevolence, but when obvious nonsense is spread it should be called out. Opinions are great; better are opinions based in reason and fact. -
Gary Barnidge visited the Bills May 3rd
purple haze replied to CNY315's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They will get to 7-8 wins with what they have. If they wanted to tank Tyrod, Shady would be out the door. They are not trying to tank. They are trying to win, but do it with an eye toward the future. I don't agree with them not signing Maclin or Boldin or Barnidge. However, rolling over 13 million next season won't be a bad look if they need to pay Sammy, Tyrod or whomever. I'm all for hoping the Chiefs belly up. How you can root for the Bills to have a bad season is beyond me. Why would you even bother to watch? -

Boldin made 3 million last year and was very productive. Why do you believe he would play for the minimum? -

Sammy played on a broken foot. Played with bad ribs too. I don't see a lack of toughness. -
The Chiefs have been really good under Reid, but they've also had some good fortune. It does seem that there are some issues over there based on the off season they've had. I don't know if I'd take the over on 9 wins for them. They are due for " down" year. I could see them winning 7 or 8.

Not most Bills fans. Sounds like you personally. Funny how you overlook his pro bowls and all pro selection. Those things did happen, and for good reason. Why some want to act like he's never been good baffles me.
