  1. In refering to Cleveland he said at what point do you pull the trigger and move up and get your franchise QB? One of the problems with the Bills and even Bills fans is they want their cake and eat it too.

For us to get a franchise QB we have to A. Trade up to a top 2 spot and get one. or B. suck so badly we have a top 2 draft pick. But what happens each year is we suck but not bad enough. We just sit there in that spot where we draft anywhere from say 6th to 11th, we won't get a top QB that way. But at the same time fans scream 'no matter what I want them to win' instead of the Bills rightfully tanking it to get a top pick.

Now I am not saying start the season like that, but say when Jauron was fired, As the owner I would have told Fewell don't even game plan, play backups, let the starters heal up and get ready for next year. I would want the best pick available. Yeah a couple vets might get upset, but who cares? It is time to redo this franchise.

At some point we are going to have to quit going with the Fluties, Johnsons, Losermans and Edwards and find us a great QB to develop. Otherwise this team isn't going to be anything more than a 7-9 to 9-7 tops year in and year out.

Are you saying they should tank games late in the year? If so, we can no longer pay attention to you. That's straight, CRAZY.

  2. YEP...example: shanahan stated that because of the weather, his family pretty much refused to come.

Eff him then. Weather is not that bad. People act like its the North Pole; and Shanahan is from the Chicago area. Their weather is no better than Buffalo in the winter time...

Anyway, does anyone catch how during the interviews Chris Brown does with potential FA's that they always seem to mention that old Bills players they know say good things about the city and fans? I don't think Buffalo itself has a thing to do with FA signings for the most part. It's about winning and money.

  3. I agree with you on one point. I think Mitchell's less than disappointing play, might be coming to an end in Buffalo. I believe Davis was brought in to start, Michell will take issue with that, which is why I can see him getting released.

Mitchell is not going anywhere. Starting OLB just like past seasons and depth at ILB. He can play either spot. No reason to let him go. Good to have players who can play multiple positions.

  4. Two things:

    1. It's funny to me that there are people who think Tebow isn't going to get drafted early. The amount of press and attention he gets alone will get him drafted high. Even if he's a complete failure, he'll be a win for team in need of a some tickets sales.

    2. While I don't think the Bills should draft him, I love that they have a workout scheduled. This is a guy who has a lot of question marks and nobody has seen much of post-season. It's due diligence to get him here and kick the tires. Given that Nix has said he wants to build this team through the draft, it's at minimum a good sign that he's getting a closer look at these prospects, even if it's people we're not hoping for.

    1. Only if he's actually on the field playing.

    2. Agreed.

  5. Green isn't a good signing the guy sucks. However I do like the addition of Davis and Edwards they are 3-4 guys who can come in and play a solid and build our D. I still think there is work to be done in free agency. We need to add another Linebacker and D-Lineman as well as possibly a WR and Interior O-lineman.

A guy like Akin Ayodele would fit the mold for a depth Linebacker. 3-4 guy in Miami and Dallas can play MLB in a 3-4 and flex to a 4-3 OLB and an OLB in a hybrid 3-4 as well. The guy isn't too old he will be 31 a nice fit for what we are looking to do this upcoming season.

I also think we should go after Coles he would make a nice addition to the WR core and try and find another vet D-lineman. We are far from there as far as free agency goes. Needs like NT, QB, LT, and RT are going to be addressed by the draft.

Coles is whack! Let Hardy and Johnson play. It's time. And don't forget teams will be picking up players from now through training camp and into the season. Plenty of time for that. Doesn't have to happen now unless a good thing unexpectedly winds up on the street like Davis did last week. Also don't get about college FA signed after the draft is over. Many ways to add players.

  6. positive - who does he replace? likely Mitchell?

Mitchell played OLB since he's been in BLo. He can play inside, but he played outside.

No reason for him to move back inside now. Davis fills a spot at ILB until they draft

someone else who can win the job from him.

  7. More than half of Byrds int's were due to the qb making a bad play, not byrd making a good play. All he has shown is that he can catch the ball. He is slow and takes terrible angles to the ball. Still needs alot of work and probably wont develop into a superstar like people think.

He definitely has room for improvement. He doesn't need to be a superstar. He just needs to do his job and get better. And newsflash for you: he still has to be in position to make a play. Turnovers are all based on mistakes by the offense. RB's are not supposed to fumble. Receivers are supposed to run precise routes and make the catch. QB's are supposed to be accurate. When they are not the defense makes a play. When a defender is in position to make a play and makes it that's a GOOD play. No matter how it happens.

  8. I think I've figured out the strategy for the buffalo bills. The present admin is looking at Miami signing Dansby, the efforts of Holmgren in Cleveland carelessly discarding dead wood and bringing in free agents and trading, and are laughing up their sleeves at those no-nothings (Holmgren and Parcells). They have a better strategy....

    1. DO NOTHING...if you don't do anything the team will automatically get better, because they have to. Ok..we did bring in a tackle from the oakland raiders who is good at getting penalties, and we did bring in Kelley Washington (a move I liked, but nobody is thinking he is even of Josh Reed's caliber as of yet.)

    2. TELL PEOPLE YOU CAN'T DO IT ALL IN ONE YEAR. This will be very effective for this year. Next year we will switch to the new mantra that you can't do it all in two years.

    3. DRAFT TIM TEBOW or BRADY QUINN---whooops--jimmy clausen. By the time the quarterback busts you can blame it all on the fact that the quarterback was a bust (See...Losman, JP, Edwards, Trent, Collins,Todd, Johnson R.)

We have the situation under control....

    Why do you bother? LOL...

  9. Stay the course gentlemen! The media and many chicken little/ midol needing fans are going to whine and complain about free agency etal, screw em. Great teams are built though the DRAFT. Free agency is to add a player here or there when you are on the edge of making the playoffs or being a superbowl contender, not when you are rebuilding.

There are no huge impact guys that were worth the money and the mid tier guys so far brought in...well two of them decided to play somewhere else. This is honestly to be expected. We are rebuilding. WHEN we are starting to look like a contender THEN we will get free agents to play here. You know at one time FA's were easy to get to come to Buffalo like Spielman, Paup, Sam Adams etal. Once we build though the DRAFT and get close, it will be that way again.

Now the whiners will talk about cheap Ralph etc, while ignoring we have always spent to the cap or damn near it. They will whine and B word about us cutting salaries and being below the cap 'floor' of old while ignoring a perennial playoff contender in Carolina who has had a complete fire sale. They fail to recognize that high spending teams like Dallas haven't really signed anyone either. They don't' understand a lockout of 2011 is most likely coming and there is no reason to run up a ton of money on has been players. They also don't' understand that the owners are showing that they are done having huge salaries on their roster. But no....it is much easier to blame 'cheap Ralph'.

Build this team through the draft, re-sign and keep our own guys that we develop and lets do this thing right!

    Yessir. :)

  10. I know this is extremely unpopular (especially with all our needs), but I think Buddy Nix & Doug Whaley (who is the player personnel director from Pittsburgh) are utilizing a strategy seen in Pittsburgh...It is not a fun way to look at this team because we'll never look to sign anyone in Free Agency but mere role players (i.e. dimeback corners, long snappers, blocking Tight Ends, 3rd Running Back)....Some may call this cheap, but it has worked in Pittsburgh (albeit Pittsburgh has signed some guys this off-season)....However, as everyone knows with Pittsburgh, you MUST find the gems in the draft....You had a good draft last year (Wood, Levitre, Byrd, Nelson) and if we can build on that this year (with an awesome draft) maybe we'll be dare I say it 8-8....I know its a huge gamble for the Bills with all the needs but if they can pull it off, they may be good in 2-3 years. And I know the 2-3 years thing is something most fans don't want to accept and I know I don't want to stomach missing the playoffs for another few years.....I am saying this based on remembering '83, '84, '85, '87, '88 drafts...IT TOOK 5 DRAFTS FOR US TO PUT THE PUZZLE TOGETHER (remember it was before Free Agency, too)...

Shoot darts at me if you want, but based on our needs and the overall weakness thus far of free agency, this appears to be the way they are going (long term vs. short term overpaid solution).... I am not happy with it but I am willing to give this group time and see what happens..

    Agreed.

  11. No thats exactly the type of players that we need. Players who just want to be here to play football and work on getting better at football and help bring people in that want tobe dedicated to football. No more Willis Mcgahee and other players who want the spot light and dont want the hard work and guts it takes to get it. Players like Eric Wood and Levitre, you never heard a report on these guys partying or anything other than working on being a contributer to the team, No clubs like mr. maybin or mr. lynch.

Nothing wrong with going out. Doesn't mean you won't work hard. Not going out doesn't mean you will. You can do a lot of stuff in your house... And nobody is always thinking about one thing. Not even Wood or Levitre. They hang out too.

  12. Buddy Nix is doing exactly what he said he was going to do. He said the Bills were not going to make a big spalsh in free agency, so why is everyone surprised? The Bills also know that there probably will not be football next year. They are going to keep costs down this year. They will play it safe and claim they are building thru the draft. This team WILL be bad this year. Get ready for a bad ride.

I wish I had your crystal ball. I could see what the lotto numbers will be. Don't assume anything. The games will be played and then we shall see.

  13. I'd agree, but to a point. No rational Bills fan expected the team to sign Peppers or Dansby, although some depth signings would go a long way. Right now, the team has zero depth at OT, DE, NT, ILB, and OLB. To expect players from last years roster to transition to a new job is absolutely ridiculous, and something the team tried to pull last year on the OL.

The owner is 91 and there's no guarantee that he'll survive this rebuild. I take no joy in saying this, but it looks to me like the plan is to be good 3 years from now. That's not good enough.

Listen, I get what you're saying, but let me remind you that FA does not end in March. There will be depth guys available all spring and summer and fall. Teams constantly work out FA's. Teams constantly scour the waiver wire. The guys that are available now are nothing special. Those type of guys will be available all year long. Nix is building through the draft just like he should be. This has to happen at some point. It's painful, but it has to be. The draft is where a teams difference makers come from.

  14. Based on your depth analysis it would make since to trade down and pick up extra picks and draft a skill position.

Something tells me that what Nix is thinking which could be why you see them interviewing CJ Spiller. We have so many needs that we need to generate more picks. This would be the perfect time to move down.

Agree that Nix will be looking to pick up more picks. I think they should trade down out of 9 if possible and pick up an

extra 2nd rounder. Do that and a skill guy is definitely in play be it a Spiller or Best or QB. Then DT and LT in round 2.

  15. I have been complaining about the Bills OL for more than a decade. It has been and continues to be their worst shortcoming. For this reason, you will hear no complaints from me if they grab Bulaga, even though I see him as a right tackle.

I view McClain as a potential superstar, so if they select him at #9 I will be thrilled, but I doubt he will be there when we select.

I think he will definitely be there at 9 because there are so many high end DT's and LT's. If both QB's go in the top 8 McClain will definitely be there. The guy the Bills would take at 9 is probably someone nobody talks about. If three LT's go before there pick the Bills will go defense. McClain. I believe they should trade down regardless and pick up another 2nd rounder. The draft is deep with DT's and you can even get a good LT in the 2nd like Ducasse or Saffold. I want that extra second because it will expand their options. They could trade the two and get back into the 1st round or keep it and get something good. I think we should expect big things out of this draft. Nix said it's the way they will build. I can see them manuevering.

  16. Troy Smith's resume is so huge that entrusting him with the franchise is a rational and cogent thought.

Guy couldn't beat out a rookie Joe Flacco, but he's now good enough for Buffalo? Well, then again, it is the Bills we're talking about.

He actually did beat out Flacco. Got sick. Flacco lit it up and never came out after that.

  17. I can see it already from miserable, I hate my life so I'm gouing to B word on a Bills' message board, the Bills are teh worst team ever fans:

    1) John Wooten is a god and everything he says should be taken as gospel.

    2) Gailey is the reason Aikman had a concussion, why Irvin nearly got paralyzed, and the single reason the Cowboys didn't win more SBs.

    3) Even though the players that made GT a top 10 this season were all recruited by Gailey, he sucks because they weren't top 10 when those guys were freshmen and sophs.

    4) Polian is 67 and Nix is 70. Polian is a youngful, Nix is a grumpy old man.

    5) Even though the Bills aren't the only team that has passed on Frazier, they are the dumbest because I hate them.

    6) The only way to get better is to overpay in a crappy FA class.

It goes both ways. It's sad that as miserable as the Bills make you that you spend so much time here. But that's for another attempt to make others as miserable as you feel. You're the best.

  18. Are you Kidding me, the front office cut loose many players including an OT that Pittsburgh signed , and to date we have hosted an OL that signed with Texans and we signed a Raider so/so starter. The front office had better get busy, cause we don't have very many draft picks....certainly not enough to plug all the holes.....Get busy boys spend some of Ralph's money he was gonna pay Cowher and at the VERY LEAST bring in some players for workouts.......Season Ticket Payment due......I just don't know...........anybody else feel this way???

You do realize FA last throughout the spring, summer and most of the fall right? They don't have to get everyone this month. Once they draft and sign college FA they will have a better idea of what else they want to add in terms of veteran FA's. There are no big difference makers available anyway. And whose to say they won't make some trades to get players or draft picks. Wait a minute before you go off the deep end.

  19. 1. Remove Brandon as GM and hire a guy with a lot of NFL success in the draft.

    2. Clean house and hire a new HC with a new coaching staff.

    :wallbash:

So people get that and then continue to biotch. Is there anyone out there who wanted that and that is happy now? I know I am. They don't need to sign FA's they need to draft well and I trust they can do that, especially after last years draft.

There are too many people who will never be happy unless the Bills win the SB every year and that's just not gonna happen. People wanted a new direction and now they have it, but many think they could do better after 3 months.

    Yessir...

    :worthy:

  20. I think this is a poor signing. When a guy gives up 6.5 sacks, 7 false starts and 3 holding penalties in 12 games, that does not give me a good feeling. I hope this new front office gets it right but this to me is not a good start..

Please tell us who on the FA list you want them to sign?? The market is light this year. And he won't be the last OL the Bills get before training camp. If they don't sign anyone folks are upset. They address a hole on the team needing options and depth and folks are upset. This is ridiculous.

  21. the only moves I see the Bills make are letting go Ingoneto, Denney, Wendley, Josh Reed, TO. That is what is pissing me off about our inactivity. We have so many holes, and now we are creating more. Go ahead and rant that those 5 suck. But they need to be replaced. Who is going to replace them? Plus the need at DE, NT, QB. OLB, LT, RT....and the upgrades at other positions. We are going to have a joke of a 53 man roster. You can only do so much through a draft. And you can only do so much in 3 drafts. How are we improved? This is a team that lost to Cleveland minus the 5 I mentioned and perhaps minus Schobel. I would not be praising the front office. Show me

Hardy and Johnson replace T.O. and Reed. Denney didn't fit the system. Wendling is easily replacable and so is Jenkins. Special Teams guys only. Nic Harris can be that. Cary Harris or Lankster can be that. Icognito could always be brought back if he doesn't sign elswhere, but it's damn near creepy to me that folks on this board love Incognito after dude was in B-Lo for what three games? Please stop whining. The season starts in September. The FA period goes on for months, not just a single weekend. They could make trades. The draft is in April. Get a grip.
