  1. Yeah, but who is the DC. With Frazier that's as big a question I hate the Tampa 2 with a passion and it needs to go. If Frazier's keeping that then he can't come here regardless of his OC. We don't play in Tampa Bay, we don't play inside, we don't score 30 pts per game. It's cold here, it's windy here, we play against teams that run the ball and against QBs like Brady who tend not to make unforced errors. That scheme sucks for our situation.

It's not the scheme it's the players. Minnesota is doing pretty good with it, but they use bigger players than we do. Tampa Bay ran it to perfection several years ago. Of course they had Sapp and Brooks etc.

  2. Here is my deal, If I am an owner I am going after the guy I want. !@#$ the NFL. If it he is White, black, yellow or pink with purple polkadots I don't care.

Here is my deal, what if an owner wants Tony Dungy and just does that interview only? Shouldn't they lose draft picks if they don't interview a white guy? Why not lose picks if they don't interview a Latino and an Oriental as well?

    Its all pure bull ****.

The Rooney rule also incorporates Latinos or Asian coaching candidates as well. Did you not read that the FP Alliance was asked about Ron Rivera's status last week? A white guy who is qualified won't have trouble getting his interview.

  3. Idiotic Tool

Do you really think that the owners are sitting in their mens or country clubs thinking about ways to keep the brother down? They interview people that are qualified. PERIOD.

Obviously there are people of color who aren't qualified but they get an interview now based on a system that doesn't give a fair shake to the people that actually deserve it. Affirmative action is and always has been a way to actually keep the race issue at the forefront. There is no need for it except to satisfy the moronic thinking of the libs.

What's with all the name calling? It's not necessary to make your point in spite of the fact your point isn't well thought out. You assume that there "obviously" people of color who aren't qualified to get an interview. That is your assumption. Who are these candidates who are not qualified? Nobody is getting an interview that is not qualified for the job. If they weren't qualified they wouldn't get an interview at all. The point of the rule is to get QUALIFIED coaches an interview they might not otherwise have gotten. There have been assistant coaches of color for decades. Art Shell was the first head coach in the NFL in what, '89? There were no qualified coaches before that or they weren't a part of the "network"? Or deeper than that, in spite of their qualifications, these coaches weren't seen by these owners to have the ability to be in charge because that was the prevailing sentiment in the country at large?

In terms of the broader issue of affirmative action it only keeps the race issue at the forefront because most people don't pay very little attention. It's a program designed to redress discrimination in general not just race based discrimination. Who has benefited the most from affirmative action programs? White women.

  4. Zimmer is a guy whose ego doesn't get in the way...He can motivate his guys as well...I'd like him head and shoulders over McDermott..Besides Philly had no answers at all to Dallas 2 weeks in a row...

And Zimmer's D got punched in the mouth by the Jets 2 weeks in a row. Why is he any better based on your reasoning for McDermott. PASS on both of them.

  5. He made it sound like more than that. Like hhe wold be the one picking the coach not Nix.

Ralph Wilson is the damn owner. Who do you think will have the final say? Don't be a knucklehead. This is not news.

Nix will take the best candidates to Ralph and Ralph will decide. Whoever Nix takes to Ralph whoever is selected should be good or Nix wouldn't bother to take them to Mr. Wilson.

  6. Bill Cowher's legacy in Pittsburgh:

    1992 - 11-5

    1993 - 9-7

    1994 - 12-4

    1995 - 11-5 (AFC Champions)

    1996 - 10-6

    1997 - 11-5

    1998 - 7-9

    1999 - 6-10

    2000 - 9-7

    2001 - 13-3

    2002 - 10-5-1

    2003 - 6-10

    2004 - 15-1

    2005 - 11-5 (Superbowl Champions)

    2006 - 8-8

You guys wouldn't take this? And keep in mind he NEVER had a franchise QB to carry the team. He had to deal with Neal O'Donnell, Cordell Stewart, and then Ben Roethlisberger as a rookie (when they won the Superbowl).

I'm sorry, but I don't think we're overrating Cowher. His teams are disciplined, hard-nosed, prepared, and hard to beat. Even in an off year, nobody wanted to face Pittsburgh with Cowher at the helm. You knew you'd be in for a war, even if you snuck out with a win.

    ...and...

He has shown a TERRIFIC record for picking coordinators. He hired Dick Lebeau, Ken Wisenhunt, and Mike Tomlin.

Hell yeah. Nobody is saying they don't want that. Does he want the Bills? You can't make the man take the job. And if he doesn't somebody has to be the coach.

  7. What bothers me about Frazier is that they're saying he blew Buddy Nix away in his interview. IIRC, Gregg Williams blew TD away in his interview too. :D

I would hope whoever they hire as coach blew them away with his interview. What do you want them to hire, a guy with no vision or an inability to express his vision for the job? Come on now. This is ridiculous.

  8. YEAH A COMPETE FAILURE UNTIL PEYTON MANNING WAS HIS COACH!. i guess the colts coach this year should go right into the hall of fame

This is bad analysis on your part. You are way too emotional. And you obviously don't know football. Dungy was a success in Tampa Bay. He turned that organization around. And just because you have a great QB does not mean you will be successful. How many rings does Dan Marino have? How many does Jim Kelly have? The Colts had great talent that was selected and coached by Tony Dungy and the staff of coaches that HE selected to coach. He was a very good to great HC. Don't be a fool.

  9. I dont understand why everybody is so down on this guy?

What the hell did Bill Cowher do that was so special...besides win 1 Super Bowl in a dozen+ years in Pittsburgh, sit out the last couple years, and get lucky that Roethlisberger fell to him?

I would bet Cowher AND Shanny...AND Schottenheimer SR. will ALL fall on their faces, like Joe Gibbs did when they come back. The game is starting to pass them by.

Mike Tomlin, Ken Whisenhunt, Harbaugh...they are all coordinators doing it the right way.

I had a post about this a while back, and now I cannot find it...but like 80% of the teams have guys who have come in as a "HOT COORDINATOR" and have completely turned things around for said team.

Cowher had the Steelers in the SB in six years. They lost to Dallas in Jan. '96. I would prefer experience and a track record of success too, but if they get a coordinator get the best one available. BTW, to say all Cowher did was get 1 SB win in a dozen years is not a good argument whatsoever. Most coaches never get to one SB let alone two. Going to a SB is not a right or a given.

  10. I don't get folks. One day nobody wants Schottenheimer. Now the Jets win a playoff game, and B. Schott did call a good game, and everyone likes him? I read so many post yesterday where people thought he was too young, or quoting Jets fans who don't like him as reasons for him not being hired as the coach. LoL. No fan base likes their coaches. Even when they get them to the playoffs! Ha!

  11. DID he get blown away because Cowher is taking too long or worst yet might go in different direction. Only way someone can get blown away in my book is if they have the Top offensive & defensive assistants in their pocket...........Bills nation isnt stupid . We had a chance at Marvin Lewis who let his defense blow us away in the Super Bowl with a lame QB . We instead pick a Greg Williams who blew the GM away in an interview . Thanks Frasier but no thanks

Marvin Lewis did not want the job. He didn't like the school system in B-Lo and other things.

  12. http://twitter.com/mortreport

"Like Peter King did, I have canvassed enough personnel men - not all in agreement - to project Tebow as a first round QB."

Pretty interesting, coming from the personnel men themselves and not the Kipers and McShays. I wonder if this also means that he is thought of as a QB, because it would be odd to pick a gimmick player in the first round (or someone you'd want to switch to a new position - see Matt Jones).

Believe it when you see it. NFL personnel men always lie leading up to the draft. Only way Tebow is a first rounder is if he plays in the Senior Bowl and dominates with his arm, then goes to the combine and looks good and at his pro day. Outside that he goes in Rd. 2 maybe or 3 probably.

  13. The way I am reading this whole Cowher for coach thing is that the Bills are the ones sitting on the fence for this guy. I'm sure that Cowher and the Bills have had their supposed meetings and the Bills probably laid their cards out on the table and Cowher sent them back with a few demands that the Bills might not want to commit to.

The Bills most likely returned with their bottom line offer and left it at that. Now the Bills and Cowher are waiting for the other to see who will blink first. As has been said before the sticking point is probably not salary, but more likely personnel control and the ability and willingness to spend on coaching staff and players.

If Ralph was willing to give Cowher what he wants as far as the means (money) to turn the franchise around without restrictions (cash to cap) I'm sure that we would already have our coach signed.

Now, is Ralph taking advantage of the lack of other coaching opportunities to maybe force Cowhers hand? Or is Cowher really ready to take himself out of the running?

It is a good sign that Cowher has yet to remove himself from the running publicly, because if he really wasn't considering the job he would have already come out and said so.

I find it funny that Seattle fired and hired a coach in the matter of a day and the Bills are a couple of months removed from the Jauron era and have yet to fill the HC position at One Bills Drive.

First, you assume a lot. Ball is in Cowher's court. Second, the Bills are trying to hold out for Cowher. So why would they hire someone quickly? If Cowher wasn't in play we probably would see a coach already. And Pete Carroll? I don't know if you need to be in a rush to hire him. Seattle will regret it.

  14. He is my dark horse. His defenses are always tough, and after seeing him in action on Hard Knocks, I just get the feeling he will make a great head coach. Being from the Parcells tree is a rather nice bullet point to have on your resume'.

For what its worth, I also enjoyed Billick when he was on Hard Knocks with the Ravens. Specifically, when officials had to delay a preseason affair versus the Eagles at the old Vet due to the poor condition of the turf >>> Billick hunted down the grounds crew and lit them up ... "Before I leave here, I want a name. Someone's ASS is coming with me in my briefcase!!!"

4get Zimmer. HE's no different than Perry or Frazier or Rivera. To me if they hire a coordinator they might as well keep Perry.

  15. It very well might be. Chuck Pollock, for one, seems to think that leaking the names of Shanahan and Cowher was intentional:

POLLOCK: Bills coaching search seems aimless

Chuck Pollock doesn't know. The national media doesn't know. Nobody knows and we just have to wait. The Bills FO is playing everybody. All of this conflicting information is no accident. They want people out of the mix and that's just what they're getting.

  16. Thanks John. I just don't understand why Cowher just doesn't come out and say he is not interested like he has every other time in the past. It seems to be the case...but i guess he knows that we are Bills fans and we never take the quick and easy death...

Maybe he doesn't because he is interested to a point. He might be thinking it over. Or maybe he doesn't want to seem like a bad guy; that's human nature. If he turns down Buffalo folks will take that as a rejection of the organization and the city. He's from WPA. He knows the deal. But Mr. Wilson put the bullseye on Cowher's back with that comment. Because some reporter will definitely ask him if he wants the job and he will have to say something definitive. But Mr. Wilson is right. As much as we all want Cowher it's senseless to get someone who doesn't want to be there. If that's the case Eff him. Lets get a coach that wants the job and is passionate about it. If Cowher settles how good a job can we expect from him?

  17. After dominating the Texas O-line on national TV in the Big 12 Championship, this guy Suh rose the draft boards to the point where he was considered the #1 pick by some. He is a good player and some people knew him before that game, but that game really kicked in the hype. I mean he was dismantling Texas. He must be great right?

Well, last night Texas was exposed as being weak up front. They allowed their star QB to be injured early in the game and forced their young QB into many turnovers with their ineptitude. The shine is off the Texas apple. They were exposed as a lucky team that played a weak schedule. Bama is lucky Texas won that Big 12 game or else Boise State may have put up a real fight.

This reflects on Texas but it also makes what Suh did look like nothing special. Great games against Texas are a dime a dozen. Clearly, this will not be lost on the scouts and Suh will slip. How far will he fall? Will he make it to number 9? It is hard to say and I think it depends on each teams positional needs. I think it hurts the Bills chances at a QB as the Rams will probably now go in that direction. If you like Suh though, keep your fingers crossed.

How many Nebraska games did you watch?? Suh was no less dominant against everyone else he played against; it wasn't just Texas. He's going first. And if he doesn't he should. He ain't getting close to number 9.

  18. hmmm is there reasoning behind why they do it? I mean do they think minorities get treated that unfairly in coaching interviews?

No. I think it's just to get impressions that can be passed on to the interviewee. Something they can do better next time, what they did well, if there is serious interest going forward. I don't think it's that big of a deal. I guarantee agents of black, white, red, brown, yellow coaches call the GM after an interview with their client to find out the same information.

  19. remember he ounce claimed he was the "Michael Jordan" of the Bills and was a key figure of "The Bickering Bills" He is just board.

He wasn't the Jordan of the Bills? Could run, block, catch and did so with regularity to winning effect. His claim was not far-fetched at all.
