  1. I think Cowher does want to coach this year. Just not in Buffalo if he can help it. Right now the Bills are Cowher's "date insurance" for the prom. He knows he can dance with us but is waiting to see if any prettier girls will go with him.

While Cowher can always go back to CBS I think he feels like he can't waste another year from the NFL. The longer he's out of coaching the more the game will pass him by. That's why he can't bring himself to say no to the Bills like Shanahan did.

When it comes down to it, and no better jobs are available, he may say yes eventually. The problem for Buffalo is we can't wait around for Cowher to decide. We have to look at other candidates.

    PTR

I agree. And I say the Bills should move quickly on a different candidate. Cowher is a good coach, but there are others.

Then on the other hand all of these "sources" and reports could be total BS. Journalism has gone down hill. Everybody is a blogger who blogs news from other bloggers and who the hell knows what's true. Coach Sal is the only person who had it right from the start. So maybe Cowher is interested in the gig and maybe all of these "sources' close to him are negotiating tactics. TB, Carolina, Houston and Chicago aren't possibilities right now. Unless TB lied to Morris.

  2. It's hard to get super excited about an offensive guru who had some of the worst offenses in the NFL and thought Kyle Boller was gonna be a franchise QB. He gives great press conferences but unless he's bringing Ozzie Newsome with him, Id be less than thrilled. We could do worse though.

Ozzie must have thought Boller would be good too since he's the GM that drafted him. Billick is a good coach. There's people on here saying Cowher took too long to win a SB like it's a given teams/coaches will even get to a SB. Billick has won more games than he's lost. Has coached teams into the playoffs and has coached a team to a SB win. He's good enough for what the Bills need. Unless you would prefer Jauron come back or some other coach with a losing pedigree.

  3. Who knows what the true story is? The truth of it is we will know relatively quickly on Cowher one way or the other. Fewell will interview for the gig and that will satisfy the Rooney rule. Now how quickly the Bills start interviewing other candidates will tell the tale. If another candidate interviews on Tomorrow or Wednesday Cowher's a no go. If we haven't heard of the Bills interviewing anyone else for the next couple days Cowher was/is in play.

  4. Coach Sal's ass. Come on man. Everyone knew about the Evans extention coming. TO? Who gives a ****? When Cowher confirms there was a meeting then I give the guy who is in friggin FLORDIA posting from his friggin house some credit.

No everybody didn't know about Lee Evans extension. TO? You don't give a **** because it doesn't suit your case. But it doesn't negate the fact that Sal was on it first. He must have some good sources. Cowher had a chance to confirm a meeting. He has said "no comment." So wake up and smell the coffee. All he had to do was say he never met with them. I'm not saying he's going to take the gig, but it's obvious they had contact; which Sal reported first. Now Mort and the rest report it too. Give Sal his props.

  5. Now I will agree 100% with that. I would most definitely take Ozzie over Buddy, and I would also take Belicheck as HC.

Some calls do go your way & some don't, but patterns do develop over time... and when push came to shove, Billick was wrong more often than not.

I hear you, but again, he has a ring. He must have done a lot right. He knows what it takes to get to and win the ultimate game. He has experience. He adapts to his personnel. He has charisma. He has a pulse on the sidelines. He has had success at the highest level. I will take all of that over whoever the hot coordinator is this year or a middling, experienced coach like Haslett or a college coach jumping to the pros. He would bring the Bills much needed credibility in the professional football world. The Bills currently have reality and perception problems on and off the field. The on field product has been terrible and misled by bad coaching. Billick is a good answer to that. Off the field the Bills are abused by national media outlets and it feeds into a bad perception of the organization/city. Billick solves that too. No one in the national media will see the Bills hiring him as anything but a strong and positive step forward. It will make Nix look good.

  6. Some of his game-day decisions...

Fans have to get over this type of thing. Belichick got bum rushed for the 4th and 2 call in Indy.

Some calls go your way and others don't.

And for all of those talking about him developing a QB he didn't draft the QB's for B-more.

Ozzie Newsome did. And all of us would have taken him as GM. He put Dilfer in a position

to win or at least not lose. He adapted to his personnel. That's good coaching. So what if

it was a defensive dominated team? He's still the HC. You think Marvin Lewis was doing

what he wanted to do without input from Billick? No. He ran his game plans past the

HC just like the OC would. Billick is a good coach and would be good for the Bills.

  7. Maybe I'm ignorant on the subject, but has his Jets offenses been anything to rave about? I haven't looked up the stats, but they looked atrocious in both games against the Bills this year, none of which were in Orchard Park. Especially with the talent on that offensive line? Their 4th or 5th best lineman is better than our best lineman. Eh, whatever.

They ran the ball down our throats twice. Don't 4get they have a rookie QB.

  8. Herm Edwards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you still drunk from last night??

One of the worst coaches I have witnessed in my life, his teams some of the least prepared for games that I have ever seen.

    NO!!

Least prepared in what way? He had the Jets and Chiefs in the playoffs too. He wasn't all bad. The last year in KC Carl Perterson got rid of everybody so they can start rebuilding. Edwards had clock management issues, but not prepared? I didn't see that.

  9. A couple of draft picks for Fox? Glad you are not in charge.

You want a good HC? Would you rather have Fox than Haslett, Fassel, Whatever coordinator? And

it would depend on the price. I'm not talking high picks. I'm talking 5 or later.

You would want me in charge. Jauron would have never been the coach because he would not

    even have been interviewed.

  10. Go hard for Cowher and Marty over this weekend. If neither bites by Monday morning Nix should be

on the phone to John Fox's agent and try to get him out of Carolina. It would probably take a couple

draft picks to get him since he's already under contract, but so be it. He's well respected. Runs tough,

running teams that play defense and he uses a down the field passing attack. And he's an experienced

head coach, the thing Nix mentioned as being important to him. If not, go after Billick and I would take

    Martz over Haslett or Fassel.

  11. If he sways Marty out of retirement, the Bills will be losers for another six years. I'm sick of turning to the elderly for answers with this football organization. It didn't work with Levy and it won't work with Marty. I am very concerned with the Nix hire if he goes in this direction.

This is the worst argument against a coach I have seen. Schottenheimer has a better record than most. He's turned

programs around at four different stops. He has coached in Championship games. His teams play tough, play hard,

run the ball violently and play riotous defense. What's not to like about that? Who cares what age it is. This ain't

an effing MTV reality BS show. This is football. Mularkey and Williams were good and young and sorry azz coaches. You want Jauron back? He's not that old; only in his 50's (Like Shanahan and Cowher and Billick are). How do you like that option? Russ Brandon is in his mid-40's; want him back running the football side? He could be great being as he's so

young and all. I'm in my 30's, but this age-ism is ass backwards. Worry about the type of job a person will

do instead of the job you think they will do based on their appearance or age. We aren't looking for models on sunday

we are looking for winners. As much as we complain about Mr. Wilson, with some good reason, he's an old man who's 25,000 dollar investment is now worth over 900 million dollars and that doesn't include wealth from his other businesses. Sounds like a winner to me.

Lets get real arguments against whoever the coach is when they actually hire a coach.

  12. we have no QB, no OT, No LB, limited WR after TO leave, it Lee Evans and no one.

    not very good outlook

We don't know what we have at WR. None of the young receivers have gotten much of a chance. They

might surprise you with a coach who has enough sense to give them reps. Jauron was an

effing idiot. At the very least Hardy should have been a red zone target last season before he

got injured. He catches the game winner at J-ville then you never see him in the red zone again.

Stevie has a nice looking Monday night game against the Browns then back to the inactive list

for him. We can draft a good OT in April or a QB or both. Or trade for a young QB to compete.

Or get a FA OT or a tackle we already have can be coached better and will play better.

False start and other dumb penalties to the level the Bills have them is ALL ON THE COACH and how

he prepares his players. We could use a dominant MLB and move Poz to the OLB or if they go 3-4

keep him inside with Mitchell and get a dominant OLB. The draft will tell a lot, but the coaches

they get will too. I believe this team has more talent than we think. With a HC and staff that

    has a clue.

  13. Reasonable and logical fans wanted someone younger to fill the GM position who had GM experience.

Don't worry about how old Nix is. See how old his assistant GM's are. They will be the one's groomed

to replace him when it's time. Nix is just one guy. This is about who he surrounds himself with and

who the coach is and who the coach brings in to be his assistants. Not about one guy. Hold on and

    wait and see.

  14. Again respected enough that no one gave him a GM gig. Oh and drafting? He just helped draft Maybin...

Give Maybin time. Immediate gratification is rare. And because other rookies did great this season doesn't

mean it will happen next season. NFL is about consistency. You don't know what Maybin

will turn out to be or Orakpo and Cushing. The Bills coaching leaves a lot to be desired. Lets see how most

of the young talent on this roster does with a legitimate head coach.

  15. 70 years old? is Tom Landry available to coach as well? is he still alive? gosh it sucks to be a bills fan.

WTF does his age have to do with anything? Does he know what he's doing that's all that matters. If you are

under 50 and know more than Buddy Nix about football at any level put in your resume to get a gig in the

league. Do you know more than Buddy Nix about football?
