  1. Ideally I'd prefer we pick up Matt Moore in FA so we have the luxury of picking QB at a spot more indicative of his value, but supposing we don't, and supposing his shoulder checks out by then, I think he's the least likely of the current crop to bust.
  2. I don't think that's necessarily a fair assessment of the situation or fair interpretation of what I'm saying. I'm simply pointing out that giving those guys contracts above their value may have been helpful in the short term but could have prevented us from making other moves both then and now. Could we have gotten Mario if we retained them? maybe, maybe not. Would we have made the playoffs if we had them on the roster? doubt it. Would we be better off right now if we had Poz and his $7 mil cap hit on the roster right now? I'm inclined to doubt it.
  3. Maybe. Suppose we signed Ellerbe or Kruger with the money we'd have spent on Poz? And as far as Whitner goes, I think he's better than he gets credit for around here, but is the $6+ mil/yr he was demanding really worth the difference in production between him and G Wilson? If we can signe Dwayne Bowe this off season b/c we let him walk is it worth it?
  4. I don't think anyone disagrees with you. The reality is that you can only pay so much. What do you think is a reasonable ceiling above which you're not willing to pay?
  5. I can't make **** like that up. That poor bastard has a lot to look forward to. Fortunately for him (depending on how you look at it) he'll be going to schools where ridiculous names are the norm.
  6. I'd move Mingo down. He seems better suited as a 3-4 OLB and his production doesn't match his hype or his measurables.
  7. Most likely they tag Flacco, leaving them powerless to stop any of the other guys from walking. Completely agree on all fronts. I'd like Kruger at a reasonable rate, but not at the $8-10 mil/year he thinks he's worth.
  8. My dumbass sister-in-law just named her kid "Messiah Elijah ------". When my horrified wife asked her if she realized she was basically naming her son "God" she replied "It has a strong meaning".
  9. They only talk about the ones they've seen?
  10. This kind of gets at Friedman's problem with the Nobel prize. By winning the award, one's ideas will likely be given far more weight than is warranted simply because he created a tool that's useful in the field.
  11. All the Krugman arguments come down to the same thing. If you believe you can create economic growth and properity out of thin air by printing fiat money, and not have it bite you in the ass on the back end, then you believe Krugman makes sense. If you don't believe that then you believe Krugman's a quack. Period, end of story.
  12. The bright side of that scenario is it becomes conceivably possible that Werner, Jones, or Joekel falls to #8
  13. 1. Get Bowe in FA 2. Sign Matt Moore in FA 3. Draft BPA at position of need w/ emphasis on pass rusher (Werner/Jones/Jordan), all purpose LB(I.e. N Johnson), QB. 4. Best FB & K available in the late rounds. 5. ??? 6. Championship * If Lattimore is on the board when we pick in the 4th I sprint to the podium to take him.
  14. That's fan speak. After the SB team's are going after top FAs & the longer he hangs in limbo the more likely potential suitors make other arrangements. That's the same reason Fitz's bonus kicks in 2 days after the SB. Smith has done nothing wrong here.
  15. Seeing this & the "draft 6 QBs" bit I can't help but wonder if there's a stupidest thread competition I didn't hear about.
  16. If I were confident the draft would play out like Drafttek's mock I'd wait til rd 5 to draft a QB & take Glennon, Nassib, or Dysert.
  17. I prefer the unis of the early 90s with the red helmets, but not until we have a winning season. I don't want to watch the team lose with that look.
  18. IIRC, we tried to stash Carder and Asper on the practice squad but other teams were interested. What can you do about that?
  19. I'm not holding my breath, but I read a report that Troup's back has been fixed. I'm always skeptical of back injuries being fixed, but I was also skeptical of Peyton Manning's neck being fixed. If it's true though there's still an outside shot he could be productive. He looked real strong at first.
  20. I know I'm being inconsistent here, b/c I always say college stats don't mean much, but it concerns me that Mingo doesn't get many sacks. If he's not getting them in college I fear he won't get them in the pros.
  21. I don't really disagree, just saying I could understand if the Ravens thought that was too steep.
  22. At some point you hit a $ figure that exceeds the player's value. I'm not necessarily saying Flacco isn't worth $20 mil, but seeing as how that would basically make him the highest paid QB in the league when no one considers him the best QB in the league, it seems reasonable to wonder if he's overestimated his value. Especially if it prevents them from resigning multiple defensive players. It also depends on whether they think the success of the offense is more a product of Joe Flacco's ability or the system and talent around him.
  23. I bet Smith could take him in a fight.
  24. This is pretty close to where I am. I think his value would be a lot higher to a team like the Bills than the Ravens. If they've got to gut their defense or lose their QB it seems like a lose/lose situation anyway.
