For those of you who gave up on EJ.....
Rob's House replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He showed things today that I haven't seen all year. Subtle things, like feeling the pass rush and shifting to his left while keeping his eyes down field and throwing a deep pass that hit a double covered Goodwin in stride (and bounced off his hands). -

In all seriousness, I feel a lot better about him after today. He's still got a ways to go, but he did a lot of things today that give reason for optimism. He still missed a few throws, but I liked his movement, awareness, and confidence a lot more.. Definite signs of improvement. -

EJ was garbage today. We only one because Graham, Goodwin, and the defense bailed him out. -

I still say he sucks. We should start Tuel down the stretch to see what we've got there. -
Official First Half Thread: Week 11, Jets at Bills
Rob's House replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed. He looks much better. If he keeps it up I might let myself feel optimistic again. -

I don't have any problem with what this guy has to say, however, I do find it disturbing that someone who finds this to be "the most intelligent thing ever said about this topic" is in a position to teach students. Although, given what secondary education has become I suppose it's par for the course. I don't care what what their relationship was, or in what context it was said. As a white person, being outraged at all use of "the N-word" is my way of telling the world that I'm one of the good ones and I'm not racist. I'm not going to let anyone take that away from me. -
The Affordable Care Act is Coming Home to Roost
Rob's House replied to Keukasmallies's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
This Obamacare fiasco is an unforced political error of epic proportions. While they haven't taken off the gloves, the mass media is actually reporting this. I just saw the local news in Richmond do a personal interest story about a life long Democrat who's furious because he's lost his insurance coverage. Think about it this way - This was an issue that most people worried about in the abstract. Now, the situation of most people who didn't have coverage hasn't changed, while a lot of people who had already taken care of this issue on their own are getting !@#$ed. Worse politically, an abstract political issue has become a real and present problem for a lot of working class Democrats who never believed their beloved leader would !@#$ them like this. And as could be expected, the well to do libs are either silent or making excuses. If the Republicans handle this properly (which I'm sure they won't) they could use this to trash Obama's "legacy" and expose the liberal Democrat party for politically opportunistic power brokers fraudulently posing as philanthropists. -
I should have clarified - I don't weigh people's outlook on sports too heavily when assessing character, so I probably would have a beer with you .... But I wouldn't like it. You are right about that though. I don't know if it was the underdog story, the heartbreaking end, the blue collar angle, or some combination, but I was a lot more emotionally invested in Flutie and that team than I've been in football since.

Can we stop pretending the ultimate decision as to whether EJ can be the guy will be based on 6 games? By my count he's got 6 games to go. And while 12 games is not an ideal sample, it's far from meaningless. In the meantime we're all waiting hopefully - some are just more optimistic than others. -
I don't want to have a beer with you either.

I don't normally care too much if other people have differing opinions on players, & to some extent that's true here, but there's something about a Bills fan trashing Flutie that rubs me the wrong way. It's about how I'd feel if a Bills fan were glowing over how awesome Tom Brady is, or cheering for the Pats. It doesn't add up to me. What's more irritating is the sanctimonious, holier than thou bull **** where anyone who has the audacity to voice displeasure with the way they've been treated is a "petulant child." In the grand scheme of things it really doesn't matter, but if I'm at a bar watching the game, I hope I don't end up on the stool next to you.
-
I don't blame him in the least. For me, the pulling of Flutie in the playoffs, and in 2000, is my worst memory as a fan. More than the SBs. I didn't even follow the Bills in 2001 & I was glad when they lost to the Chargers. Knowing how I felt about it, I can only imagine how Flutie, in his last years, after taking a struggling team to the playoffs twice & making the pro-bowl, to be slighted in the harshest way, and relegated to a back-up (for a guy who sucks, no less) and you expect him to be a good trooper? !@#$ that.

Official Bills Only-Talk Thread - PPP Style
Rob's House replied to IDBillzFan's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Better to talk unicorns in the realm of football than in the realm of politics. Just sayin -
This post is flawed in so many ways I don't know where to start. Should I start with the comparison of 1999 stats to 2013 stats? The complete ignorance of the effect ball control plays on defense? The false assertion that this offense put up 20+ 6 times? Completely discounting the value of turning would be sacks into short gains? The failure to consider last minute game winning drives? The fact that the defense that won all those games couldn't win dick w/ RJ? I could go on, but I doubt you'd ever look beyond the stat sheet, so why bother. BTW, the only consolation I have from the way the last 13 years have played out is the knowledge that fans like you have to suffer through the Flutie curse.

If Flutie started we'd have blown the Titans out. Flutie had been struggling with tendonitis late in the season which took some of the zip of his passes. He took the last game of the season off to let it heal up so he'd be 100%. Since we almost won with Rob Johnson, who is a loser that sucks ass, and because quarterbacks have a lot to do with winning, it's clear that if we had a quarterback who was awesome instead, like Flutie, the Bills would have dispensed with the Titans handily, and the whole course of Steve McNair's life would have been altered.
-
The Ravens had the same thing with Dilfer. He wasn't the best QB but he was a perfect fit for that team. It was a power run and play defense team, which is more or less what the Bills were doing then, and Dilfer, like Flutie, did what they needed from him, and late in the 4th, with the game on the line, they'd come through more often than not. Baltimore tinkered with that and paid the price. So'd the Bills.

There's always one guy who has to piss in the punch bowl.
-
They should apologize to him & us. Benching the guy that led you to a 10-5 record (10-3 the yr before) for an unproven prospect, IN THE !@#$ING PLAYOFFS, is among the dumbest moves made by any NFL franchise ever.

I still believe in EJ Manuel
Rob's House replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's it right there. If he shows even modest proficiency next week I suspect that will buy a lot more patience from the fan base. Few expect him to play lights out, but most expect steady improvement. If he lays an egg again next week it'll be hard to call it a fluke. -
Well as of right now we draft 6th

We should sign a G in FA. I have a hunch there will be a pro-bowler available for a song. -

If we go 6th we're guaranteed at least 1 of the following: Bridgewater, Mariota, Manziel, Clowney, Mike Evans, or Jake Matthews. -

I know some of you guys are taking this story really seriously, so forgive me if my "poor taste" offends any of yalls' sensitivities, but a funny thought occurred to me. I envisioned a father and son sitting in a fast food place being frequented by a group of athletes. When one sits, the others get up and move, at which point the guy, without saying a word, gets up, flips out, starts yelling and slamming his tray against the garbage can, then runs away crying. At this point the dad, with a straight face and solemn tone points to the man running away and tells his son "that's how a man handles his business." -
I wasn't thrilled with the pick at the time, but I chose to be optimistic. Like I said, he just doesn't pass the eye test. I've said before, if he plays well down the stretch then great. I'll be as happy as anyone if he can get it together and make it more fun to be a Bills fan. Hell, it won't even break my heart to say that my amateur QB scouting analysis sucked. I just don't see it happening. Some QBs make rookie mistakes, but you can see the ability and growth. With EJ I just see a stiff awkward guy who looks really uncomfortable doing what he's doing. Hey, that's our piece of crap you're talking about.
